Thank you for this video it was so helpful I also took my car to the dealership and Ofcourse they want to charge u an arm and a leg so when I saw ur video I decided to do it myself 👍
Thank you Toyota for making this so easy! My mom owns a 2017 Mitsubishi outlander and that thing is a nightmare to change. The way they have it oriented you have to pull push pins out and move things out of the way just to change a simple air filter.
just so you know i took my rav4 to the dealer for air conditioning not cooling and they suggested to replace my engine air filter for only 75.00 dollars soi ask how much was the filter by ifself he said about 22.00 dollars so needless to said they charge you 63.00 dollars for labor, so i purchase the filter right there and paid yeah 22.00 and replaced my self it took me i believe 2 MINUTES ONLY and SAVE 63.00 dollars what a rip off from toyota dealers ,,,,oh my good
The filter price is ok but wow it's an extra 53 dollars for them to put it in. Thanks for letting me know! Hopefully you can put it in yourself and save some money.
Great information.. By the way, I've been having lots of problems trying to get the fuel consumption problem diagnosed correctly by the dealership where we bought our Toyota Rav4 2018 new. Our Miles per tank should be 300 (city), but it is down to 175 per tank. It only has 44,000 miles. The only thing the dealership says is, "The computer checks out". I asked them to check out other things, but all they say is, "We have our protocols and steps". Any ideas? Starting to look like a possible lemon. Thanks.
Thank you. So I did some research for you on your fuel economy. Is your Rav4 a Hybrid or a different trim? I read that some Rav4's had a fuel tank issue where it didn't fill up to the correct capacity. Another culprit of bad fuel economy could be a bad oxygen sensor. Those sensors seem to be a problem with many Toyotas. I believe you should still have the 6yr/60K mile warranty for the powertrain , so Toyota should diagnose and fix your car for you. Maybe take your car to another Toyota dealership since the first one gave you that kind of unhelpful response. This is my best guess right now for your issue. Please do let me know how it goes and hopefully it can be figured out.
@@SkyShadowMedia Thank you for the options. Our Rav4 is an LE. We took in the vehicle for an oil service and after that, its never been the same again. They weren't willing to check out any possible mistakes that might have been made during the oil change service. First time with a Toyota and unfortunately, it has been a disappointing experience.
@@SkyShadowMedia Wondering who should we contact to further inquire on this problem. At this point, Toyota should be very aware of this ongoing problem. Very frustrating.
About 12,000 miles or 1 year. It depends how much you drive and how dusty your area is. You have to change it sooner. I would say open and check it once in awhile to see how dirty it is. Sometimes I knock out debris and vacuum it a little when it's not time to change it.
Is it normal to see part of the filter's orange gasket at the bottom corner of the engine box even when it is closed? That is what i can see and am not sure if i did something wrong... the corner i am referring to can be found at the @2:38 minute mark
Try to reposition the filter and move the top part of the box to make sure you don't see the orange gasket. I've had that problem that you mentioned before on other cars and I usually move the filter or box and then check if it closes easily. You want the box to close easy. Hope it helps, let me know if you have other questions.
All combustion engines should have an engine air filter. Check out your engine bay like in the video so you can see where the engine air filter is located. Thanks for asking!
I installed an orange rimmed one similar to yours and the orange peaks out a little bit towards the end, that normal? Not where you clip it close but the opposite side.
Try to re-adjust the filter or the box and make sure the airbox is sealed and can clip closed easily. I've seen that before on other cars I've changed the air filter on. Sometimes the filter is not sitting in the box correctly.
I just changed mine and I see the same thing. The orange rim is visible towards the opposite side of the clips. Did you figure it out? I tried to reposition the filter but it’s still visible.
@kelvinmac_lucky try to move the filter around so the box sits flush so that all the clips close. We don't want a gap for anything to get past the filter. I've ran into that before where clips didn't lock. Hope you get them to work!
Fram is one of many brands for air filters but you may choose a Toyota air filter if you like or any other brand. Better to change a dirty filter for a new one! Thanks for watching!
@@SkyShadowMedia Thank you very much, I will buy from this brand this is the item number. fram ca10677 But what is the number of the air conditioner filter under the storage place?
From the service manual, it states you should replace your engine air filter & cabin air filter every 10,000 miles in extreme conditions & every 15,000 to 30,000 miles in usual driving conditions.
Thank you man saved me $80 from the Toyota dealership

Car manufacturers should make it easier to change a simple air filter.

way easier than the 2019 onwards! Thank god I have a 2018 :D Great video. Will replace the filter tomorrow and save some $$$

Can you clean the inside of that compartment the air filter is in? Would that be safe and/or would it damage the filter itself?
Yea you can clean the inside of the airbox. I sometimes take a vacuum and suck out the rocks and debris that accumulate in there.

Ya know what the dealership charges? I'm not the federal govt.
I've heard from about $50?
For the Cabin Filter they charge 60 for a RAV4 2020. And for the engine filter they charge 28.
That is pricey! Thanks for the info!
owners manual says absolutely NOTHING about the air filter obviously know how to change it but want an OEM one. . . . like what??
Very interesting
They were trying to charge me 100 for this

Same, they wanted to charge my wife 100 for engine air filter and 65 for cabin. Now I did it myself for just few bucks, the costs of filters
Wow that is a lot to charge and in reality it's not that hard to replace!
Yum hai hum
Thanks for stopping by!

Yup that would be helpful 🙂
Need to clean up that engine bay (cough cough) ..
Lol true but this was somebody else's vehicle.
Fram is the worst brand you can use.
I see
it'll work just fine for a Rav4.
Yup, it's a matter of preference and budget
First time to change engine air filter, I used wix! It was suggested by O'reilly worker.
Wix is good too, everyone has their preferences. The owner of this car just wanted Fram so I changed it for her.
Thank you ver helpful
