If you do disconnect that hose, the engine will run very rough/stall and check engine light will come on. Re-connect the hose and the engine will run normal again and check engine light will go out after runni g about 15-20 minutes
I changed my air filter myself for the first time and this video was helpful. Apparently, someone who has worked on it in the past broke off the left clamp. It's not there at all! I don't remember any techs ever telling me about doing that. I guess they didn't say anything because it is not loose there at all and they didn't want to take responsibility.
lol. I undid the metal clamps, pulled the filter housing back, and heard a piece of plastic snap near the back. I still have no idea what broke where. But I hope it wasn’t important😂
Unlike the cabin air filter, the engine air filter only goes in one way which is why it doesn't need to say this side goes "up" or this is the "air flow" direction.
Gabriel, the factory service manual specifies that the filter be changed at 30,000 mile intervals. It also specifies that the cabin air filter be changed at this interval too.
Simply put the change interval is dependent upon the conditions you drive in. Dusty dirt roads = change more often, etc. Check the condition of the filter every other oil change and when it gets dirty change it.
I'm pretty sure a vacuum hose came lose somewhere. Also, ensure the filter housing is full seated. There are lock tabs on the opposite side of the latch brackets. Let us know what you find.
Yeah me too I just change mine I did the cabin filter and it was all good when I turned it on then I did the air filter and when I turn it on it start vibrating and it turn off by itself and turn on all lights on the dashboard I did mine in my Nissan Rogue and it was all good then now that I try to save up some money to my gf this happen I feel so unsure of what could be wrong
I did an install on my own before seeing this video, and that hose came out on me too. Judging by the comments here, it seems to be a common occurrence in this generation. This literally left me stranded in the middle of the road. I made a video about this, so hopefully it'll help out anyone else who runs into this problem: ua-cam.com/video/Fhc-v4or1s0/v-deo.html
This guy made a big mistake, he didn't connect the tube from the filter to the engine. After i follow his instruction then i have to come to the auto store
This Guy thanks for adding that bit in. My check engine light went on and I couldn't tell why. Then I saw your video, opened my hood and sure enough, the hose was disconnected.
That is probably the worst design for air cleaner replacement I've ever seen. Air filters are a consumable that must be replaced regularly. It should be easy for any DIYer to do. This is an unnecessary hassle.
Awesome, thank you! I just replaced mine and it literally took me just 30 seconds.
Awesome! Glad to help.
Best car-care music ever!

@@rampageblizzardEh it’s a Yota it’ll be fine 😂
"tough and manly"...love it and the gif associated with it
Excellent tutorial- comprehensive , practical with great communication and illustration.
Thanks B Chanti.

Thanks Jack. I actually had a comment on a similar video on the Toyota IQ where someone installed their air filter upside down. Bizarre.
Thanks Mark!
So glad to help out Jimmy!
Thank you; was fast and easy with your help!
thanks, time to diy in the long weekend
Good luck.
After how many miles of driving do i have to change the Air filter? My service guy just cleans mine by blowing compressed air on it
Gabriel Lugira I change mine every other oil change which is 10,000 miles.
Gabriel, the factory service manual specifies that the filter be changed at 30,000 mile intervals. It also specifies that the cabin air filter be changed at this interval too.
what kind of oil you use on toyota rav 4 that last for 10000 miles?
He said *Every other* oil change….
Not Every oil change
Thank you so much!! I was quoted $50+ to change out my air filter this am😅😅😅😅.
Glad to help Tien. The prices vary hugely but are always much higher than they should be considering how easy this replacement is.
Dude, you are the man! great production quality, thanks!
Thanks Beth!!
This is so helpful!!!! Thank you so much @This Guy!!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Hiw often should the filter be changed
It is recommended every 10k miles, or every other oil change (which should be 10k miles).
Recommended every 30,000 miles but should be checked every 10,000 miles.
Simply put the change interval is dependent upon the conditions you drive in. Dusty dirt roads = change more often, etc. Check the condition of the filter every other oil change and when it gets dirty change it.
I like this guy!
Thanks Michele Richards!
@@ThisGuyProductions Your welcome and thank you for the tutorial. It felt nice to do it myself.
It's encouraging to come across a video like this, and the pop-ups are a great addition, thank you
That was simple. Thanks so much!
You're welcome!
is this for the cabin air filter or engine air filter
This is the engine air filter. I also have a video for the cabin air filter. You can find it behind the glove box.
You couldn't tell?
i notice your hose come lose in the video mine came lose and I didnt reconnect it and my engine light turned on
Front clip hard to reinstall. Used HF pry bar 90 degree bar. Worked. Toyota failed to attach front clip. :( 81 senior.
Thanks
You need to clean the space were the filter takes his place👍
My Toyota marked a check engine light after i changed it i even connected the tube at top and it still says "check engine" 😩 any help?

Yeah, that hose is bothersome. Thanks for sharing.
I was able to reinstall mine without disconnecting the pipe
Yeah, mine slipped off.
The box too far boss

My bad. I had a hose inadvertently disconnect on me.
This Guy thanks for adding that bit in. My check engine light went on and I couldn't tell why. Then I saw your video, opened my hood and sure enough, the hose was disconnected.

I've actually seen some cars that require bolts to be removed to access the air filter housing. I agree that this can definitely be simplified though.
This is as easy as it gets
Your pop ups are annoying
