I don't get why people are saying they wish Angel Beats kept going. The reason it's so good, the reason it's so touching, the reason it brings tears is because of how perfectly it conveys its theme: "Even though good things always have to end, if they were fun while they lasted, then it's alright." It makes us cry because we don't want to let go. We're afraid of moving on, afraid of losing something we treasure. And yet, at the same time, we know we have to. Angel Beats touches our hearts because it tells us, quietly and gently, that it's okay. That we can let go. That goodbyes don't have to be sad. The series was cut short due to a tsunami causing a lot of funding to be pulled, if I recall correctly, but extending it past what it was meant for simply wouldn't work. Angel Beats was a great, wonderful thing--and like all good things, it has to end. Prolonging it would make it hollow, because keeping it going isn't what its message was.
My sister was only 5 when she saw me watch this show and cry. She bragged and said that if she watch this show known as "Angel Beats" she would not cry. I'd explained to her, "Of course you wouldn't cry, reason why is that you don't understand why I cry, or understand the concept of the story. Wait until you get older, and you shall understand."

He fell in love with an american girl but the father didn't want it to happen, so he tortured and killed the girl and the last english words she taught him were," I kiss you". So he was there searching for her cuz after the girl died he was killed too (this story might have mistakes in it so I think you should check online or something)

This anime played with your emotions a lot. Clannad at least warned your heart by breaking it slowly in comparison Angel Beats which made you laugh then out of nowhere tears are flowing by surprise. Clannad is more of an anime being true to itself while Angel beat confuses your emotion in a good way. So we cant really compare the 2 since their good in their own way. Its not a copy cat since their ways of making people cry differs by its principles.
Actually, it shouldn't be a surprise that they're similar since both are by Key Visual Arts... Making you laugh, then rip your heart out while your mouth is open is pretty much Key's specialty.
In my opinion Angel beats is more pleased because despite being an unreal world at the end of the anime managed to give us hope, and wait a second season, which may not leave, but at least after breaking his heart, he let us hope. Honestly clannand not touch my heart as did Angel Beats. But I think it is a matter of perspective!

I love how this anime started out playfully and developed into a Beautiful and heartwarming/breaking story the same goes with The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya, but that didn't touch your feelings as much as angel beats did. Like i have never cried this much before and i feel like shit now and cant get over that sad ending D': (Watched the whole thing just 6 hours ago). So based on my description do you think there is any other animes like this because i enjoy them most and they need to make you cry!

Best 13 - episode anime series, i've ever seen, period. My inner critisizor may say it has flaws, but there's no anime without a sin. Maybe the most fatal flaw worth mentioning is, it ended T^T.
Darth Sidious Elfen Lied, watched it, I would defintely say it's on my top 10 list. It's a good show. maybe the thing that lowered it from the very top, was the dark theme and setting. Hence the overall enjoyment suffered from it. It's hard to rewatch over and over again, or at least, that many times as Angel Beats! The show left a little bad blood in my mouth, seeing those over gory, traumatauzing scenes it hid inside. I can assure you, it's not everyones cup of tea.
RedWoodTom It would be my favourite anime of all time, but I'm a fan of dark themes (cue the Dark Side jokes). Indeed, it's not for everyone. One of my friends was emotionally traumatised by the show lol.

The amount I cried at the ending of this, was unnatural! And when they all disappeared and the ending song kicked in. It was titanic hitting the iceberg aaaaaaaal~ over again.
That's what happened to me. I did good getting through most of it without crying (even Yui's part). Then I watch the final scene of the last episode, this theme kicks in, and then I have to watch them disappear slowly one at a time instead of appearing. Which signified they had all lived with no more regrets and could move on. So bittersweet!!! I was crying a lot. Never has an anime hit me harder than Angel Beats. I thought people were exaggerating about it making you cry. I was so wrong. I haven't watched Clannad yet, but want to.

This is the saddest anime I've ever watched. People said that Clannad/Clannad after story is the saddest but I can't bring myself to watch it. There are so many feelings to handle, my eyes welled up with tears first time I watched it and I still can't get over this anime.
Don't do it. You'll feel depressed for at least a week if you do. But then again, Clannad ~AS~ IS a masterpiece so, you can if you want. But you'll need all the tissues from your local grocery store. D:
Clannad is sadder simply because it was something you can actually relate to in real life rather than something science fiction like angel beats deaths were. Plus the timing clannad adds their sad songs kills your heart.
Like life, it's a tragic story, with more than enough lightening elements to give you a reason to keep going. That's what it comes down to. There's always something to look forward to, always a reason to move past your tragedies. That's what the show was ultimately about, and holy hell they pulled it off.

I watched this anime a year ago, and yet I still feel incredible emotion when hearing the music from it. I take almost personal offense when people disrespect this anime and Anohana. I was really touched. Though, the only two times I cried on Angel beats was the episode where Yui passed on and the end episode. The anime feels both incomplete and complete. I won't be happy with it until I know all of them meet in the next life and become friends again.
GunsanSB I like clannad especially afterstory and it absolutely foced the tears out of me but the ending......... I just think it would've been a whole lot better if they didn't revive them and settled for a tragic ending. -_-

I cried thrice, one for Yui, one for Otonashi's death (in the real world) and one for the ending. Well truthfully the ending had me crying 5 times, cause every time I cleaned up more tears would start coming.
This song gives me chills every time I listen to it. Not just because it's from a BRUTALLY HEART-DESTROYING point in an anime, but because.. well, listen to it. It's beautiful.
Zhi Yi Ko I completely agree. K-ON! only had the music going for it, sadly. Tenshi Ni Fureta Yo is up there with my top 3 anime songs. (Second place, to be exact.) I would have hoped that K-ON! could have been improved story-wise, but it's hard to fix something when it's sort of set in stone... At the end of the day, it'll always be about 5 girls drinking tea and rarely belting out an amazing song.
Angel beats is tier 2A for me (83 marks). k-on is tier 2b (79 marks). In Japan K-On however is well recieved compared to Angel Beats. That's not fair, I must consider other factors. In the end, Angel Beats has the upper hand, not due to GDM, but how the overall story goes.
I did cry at Angel Beats (a lot of people say that just to go with what everyone else says) but having experienced the pain of leaving someone behind when they want you to stay, it really hit home for me. Yeah, Angel Beats needs a lot more recognition, not just for having GDM in it. It's more than just a feels-y anime. Same for K-ON! There's a lot in there that people ignore. Sure, it's a slice of life, sure, it's kinda.. drinking tea and not much else, but there's an important lesson about friendships tucked away between us waiting for them to sing. Maybe i'm just slow at thinking, but this was the first anime I didn't know the end from the first episode. As soon as Kanade said, she was carrying Otonashi's heart i was blown away. Just finished watching this masterpiece and I've never cried this hard in a while. After Silent Voice this anime is marked as my second anime that made me cry this much. Truly one of the saddest yet most beautiful anime ever.
You just get attached to the characters and then they "disappear" and you start bawling because they're not together anymore but then they find each other and you cry even more because it's so beautiful. I think that's a pretty good explanation of what made you cry.

You might have missed it but at the very end there's about 15 seconds extra after they all vanish, it's what I wanted to see for the ending. It's just enough to make me happy with it all :)

I have yet to watch that final fade out without getting teary. It's the last minute of this track that just really drives home the emotional impact when you see everyone vanish. And those final notes on the piano when it's just Otanashi and Kanade.....oh man. Love this series.
Derek Collins Some may consider it a cliffhanger, but I consider it a proper ending. At least a better ending than having Otanashi just shouting and then the song comes over. It also proves that Otanashi was able to meet up with Kanade, which is another part of the ending that I liked.
One of the few songs that can make me cry after several times after hearing it. In fact, I'm gonna click on another video right now so I don't start blubbering. Thank God for Otonashi and Angel meeting after being reborn or whatever... don't' forget that people! They meet again! It makes the ending so much happier.
This anime really changes your perspective on life. People everywhere think that they themselves are worthless, but in the end, we must look back and say to ourselves, "what did I accomplish" and reflect on our lives. I think this anime really displays the depths of even suicidal minds and plays it out in a relatable sequence to others, who may or may not be suicidal. This anime was truly a masterpiece. One of the truly most in depth, most inspiring and feels anime I've seen. I myself am a normal person, but when I watched this, I was like wow. Speechless. This song is the perfect display of it all. Cried so hard :(
I just rewatched it for the 4th time and again cried like anything. They are happy tears, but it also makes you think about how you could do more for others and yourself. Maybe now I've just realised the moral of it all, but it changes a lot of other things and hopefully I can take this into my everyday life. :')
This song becomes much more meaningful after you graduate high school yourself. Much like the ending of Angel beats, graduation brings about mixed feelings and tears, as well as hope for a new start on life.
0:32 when that moment of the song was played in the anime for the first time in the scene where Otonashi refused to accept Kanade's disappearance, I cried so much. I felt that I was there instead of him, even though I had never feld in love for serious. Peace 4 all with emptiness in hearth.

This anime is still the best anime for me, the best anime doesn't have to have many episodes, the best anime doesn't have to be full of ecchi scenes, the best anime doesn't have to have a lot of action scenes, the best anime is the one that is able to touch your heart.
Just that ending image/scene as everyone all slowly disappears until no-one remains. I couldn't help but feel so sad, yet happy as well. Honestly a brilliant anime that did brilliantly at hitting those emotional feels time and time again 👌
clannad has awesome tracks as well, higurashi dear you is great too, and air tv is good. all the above i just learned on piano lol clannad is deff at the top of the list tho
10 seconds of after credits…I really lost my shit then, i was half-laughing from happiness and half dying from crying. This and Eureka 7 are hands down my favorite shows that leave you with such an amazing feeling after it ends.
This is one of the reasons why I’m afraid of the number 13, it’s not because of horror or trauma, it’s because of how much pain it caused me in the feelings within these 13 episodes

It makes us cry because we don't want to let go. We're afraid of moving on, afraid of losing something we treasure. And yet, at the same time, we know we have to. Angel Beats touches our hearts because it tells us, quietly and gently, that it's okay. That we can let go. That goodbyes don't have to be sad.
The series was cut short due to a tsunami causing a lot of funding to be pulled, if I recall correctly, but extending it past what it was meant for simply wouldn't work. Angel Beats was a great, wonderful thing--and like all good things, it has to end. Prolonging it would make it hollow, because keeping it going isn't what its message was.

So he was there searching for her cuz after the girl died he was killed too (this story might have mistakes in it so I think you should check online or something)

This anime played with your emotions a lot. Clannad at least warned your heart by breaking it slowly in comparison Angel Beats which made you laugh then out of nowhere tears are flowing by surprise.
Clannad is more of an anime being true to itself while Angel beat confuses your emotion in a good way. So we cant really compare the 2 since their good in their own way. Its not a copy cat since their ways of making people cry differs by its principles.
Actually, it shouldn't be a surprise that they're similar since both are by Key Visual Arts... Making you laugh, then rip your heart out while your mouth is open is pretty much Key's specialty.
In my opinion Angel beats is more pleased because despite being an unreal world at the end of the anime managed to give us hope, and wait a second season, which may not leave, but at least after breaking his heart, he let us hope. Honestly clannand not touch my heart as did Angel Beats.
But I think it is a matter of perspective!

I love how this anime started out playfully and developed into a Beautiful and heartwarming/breaking story the same goes with The melancholy of haruhi suzumiya, but that didn't touch your feelings as much as angel beats did.

No it's not manga. A visual novel is a type of computer or console game which is usually 99% text based. The story is told and seen from the prospective of the protagonist, and the player must make choices during the story which in turn will affect what route the story heads down. Visual novels are usually the original source of many animes, for example Fate Stay Night, Shuffle!, Clannad and anything else by Key Visual, Da Capo, Utawareumono, plus just about every hentai anime ever made... In fact most of these games I listed were originally H-games, but lost the adult content when they were adapted into anime.
Recent years have seen this trend reversed with many popular animes being adapted into visual novels instead, these include Oreimo, Toradora!, Sword Art Online and Madoka Magika. Angel Beats is probably going to join this list.

My inner critisizor may say it has flaws, but there's no anime without a sin.
Maybe the most fatal flaw worth mentioning is, it ended T^T.

maybe the thing that lowered it from the very top, was the dark theme and setting. Hence the overall enjoyment suffered from it. It's hard to rewatch over and over again, or at least, that many times as Angel Beats! The show left a little bad blood in my mouth, seeing those over gory, traumatauzing scenes it hid inside.
I can assure you, it's not everyones cup of tea.

That's what happened to me. I did good getting through most of it without crying (even Yui's part). Then I watch the final scene of the last episode, this theme kicks in, and then I have to watch them disappear slowly one at a time instead of appearing. Which signified they had all lived with no more regrets and could move on. So bittersweet!!!

This is the saddest anime I've ever watched. People said that Clannad/Clannad after story is the saddest but I can't bring myself to watch it. There are so many feelings to handle, my eyes welled up with tears first time I watched it and I still can't get over this anime.

Clannad is sadder simply because it was something you can actually relate to in real life rather than something science fiction like angel beats deaths were. Plus the timing clannad adds their sad songs kills your heart.

That's what it comes down to. There's always something to look forward to, always a reason to move past your tragedies. That's what the show was ultimately about, and holy hell they pulled it off.

I watched this anime a year ago, and yet I still feel incredible emotion when hearing the music from it.
I take almost personal offense when people disrespect this anime and Anohana. I was really touched.
Though, the only two times I cried on Angel beats was the episode where Yui passed on and the end episode. The anime feels both incomplete and complete. I won't be happy with it until I know all of them meet in the next life and become friends again.

One of the best songs, alongside K-ON. But however K-On got a mediocre story, so this one is the one of the most balanced anime ever.
Zhi Yi Ko I completely agree. K-ON! only had the music going for it, sadly. Tenshi Ni Fureta Yo is up there with my top 3 anime songs. (Second place, to be exact.)
I would have hoped that K-ON! could have been improved story-wise, but it's hard to fix something when it's sort of set in stone... At the end of the day, it'll always be about 5 girls drinking tea and rarely belting out an amazing song.
Angel beats is tier 2A for me (83 marks). k-on is tier 2b (79 marks). In Japan K-On however is well recieved compared to Angel Beats. That's not fair, I must consider other factors. In the end, Angel Beats has the upper hand, not due to GDM, but how the overall story goes.
I did cry at Angel Beats (a lot of people say that just to go with what everyone else says) but having experienced the pain of leaving someone behind when they want you to stay, it really hit home for me.
Yeah, Angel Beats needs a lot more recognition, not just for having GDM in it. It's more than just a feels-y anime. Same for K-ON! There's a lot in there that people ignore. Sure, it's a slice of life, sure, it's kinda.. drinking tea and not much else, but there's an important lesson about friendships tucked away between us waiting for them to sing.
On the topic of you rating anime, what would be your top 3? Angel Beats was one of the very first anime I watched, and it wasn't all that long ago. I've only completed ~20 anime, and I'm watching Needless as I type this.

Maybe i'm just slow at thinking, but this was the first anime I didn't know the end from the first episode. As soon as Kanade said, she was carrying Otonashi's heart i was blown away. I mean how could you expect such a thing? That ending made me think and cry a few evenings. Beautiful Anime, with a very nice story :D

You might have missed it but at the very end there's about 15 seconds extra after they all vanish, it's what I wanted to see for the ending. It's just enough to make me happy with it all :)

I have yet to watch that final fade out without getting teary. It's the last minute of this track that just really drives home the emotional impact when you see everyone vanish. And those final notes on the piano when it's just Otanashi and Kanade.....oh man. Love this series.

Derek Collins Some may consider it a cliffhanger, but I consider it a proper ending. At least a better ending than having Otanashi just shouting and then the song comes over. It also proves that Otanashi was able to meet up with Kanade, which is another part of the ending that I liked.

People everywhere think that they themselves are worthless, but in the end, we must look back and say to ourselves, "what did I accomplish" and reflect on our lives. I think this anime really displays the depths of even suicidal minds and plays it out in a relatable sequence to others, who may or may not be suicidal. This anime was truly a masterpiece. One of the truly most in depth, most inspiring and feels anime I've seen. I myself am a normal person, but when I watched this, I was like wow. Speechless. This song is the perfect display of it all. Cried so hard :(
I just rewatched it for the 4th time and again cried like anything. They are happy tears, but it also makes you think about how you could do more for others and yourself. Maybe now I've just realised the moral of it all, but it changes a lot of other things and hopefully I can take this into my everyday life. :')

This anime is still the best anime for me, the best anime doesn't have to have many episodes, the best anime doesn't have to be full of ecchi scenes, the best anime doesn't have to have a lot of action scenes, the best anime is the one that is able to touch your heart.
Just that ending image/scene as everyone all slowly disappears until no-one remains. I couldn't help but feel so sad, yet happy as well. Honestly a brilliant anime that did brilliantly at hitting those emotional feels time and time again 👌

10 seconds of after credits…I really lost my shit then, i was half-laughing from happiness and half dying from crying. This and Eureka 7 are hands down my favorite shows that leave you with such an amazing feeling after it ends.

This is one of the reasons why I’m afraid of the number 13, it’s not because of horror or trauma, it’s because of how much pain it caused me in the feelings within these 13 episodes
If you didnt even shed one single tear in this show, idk what to say. This is irrelevant but the lesson here is, make the most out of your life, because you never know when it will end. The feeling of regret as if you havent accomplished everything, this is why whatever path you choose, remember to fulfill your goals, even if its a bad path or a good path, as long as you learn to love, enjoy and share. Been years since I listened to this song and I just now came back
It still brings tears to my eyes
I connected so much to the characters and stories that it helped me cope with my awful situation
It got me through it and made me a better person and even if it may be forgotten to most I still will remember it

For everyone who liked Angel Beats should also see Clannad and Clannad After Story, it's from the same studio anyway, so if you cried watching Angel Beats, you will drown in your own tears watching Clannad - especially After Story (second season)
Dear god, when i watched Clannad I cried so damn hard at like 5 different parts of the anime. Most of the time it was cause of Ushio, but when Nagisa..... THAT SHIT WAS SAD
