I really like this series. I decide to watch it cuz it's trending. I like bloody movies. But when I finished episode 3. I realized this is not just a bloody show. There is more to it. It's about people's greed. About friendship, trust, leadership, betrayal. What's interesting is this is not a complicated series. It's very simple yet mysterious. As you watch you get excited, scared, nervous, happy, mad, sad, you'll have so many questions, emotions and the exciting is you'll never know what will going to happen next.

Absolutely...great points....and I also feel it's constantly asking you: what would you do in this life and death situation? Which makes it really involving. Thanks for commenting..hope you enjoy the other videos!

Like you, I appreciate dramas like My Mister and now Squid game because of the richness of its screenplay and writing. The human element in its selfishness and kindness are beautifully portrayed in both dramas. Looking forward to more of your content. Keep up the great work.

I love high-quality dramas, regardless of genre, and I totally agree with you that Squid Game is definitely worth watching. In fact I would say it is a must-watch if you are into suspense/thriller-type shows. I have almost finished watching all the episodes and it seems very likely that it's going to be the best drama I have seen this year (last year's, of course, was My Mister 😊)

Yes, because of the thriller type style and the shocking elements it's easy to overlook the subtler details on first watch...but there's no doubt a lot going on in the charactér development worth exploring..👍😎

My fav character was Han mi nyeo. Her acting made the show more interesting. The toilet scene was hilarious and her ending was so dramatic.

yes, she had a very well defined character and played it very memorably...That North Korean girl's story did it for me! :-)

Squid Game is #1 in the US too and some online articles have predicted that it might become Netflix's most popular show to date. Another international success for K-culture instead of just in the East. I think this is irrefutable evidence that K-culture is expanding in the West considering the success of K-pop acts like BTS and Blackpink as well as the movie Parasite's historical awards sweep of the 2020 Oscars. I can go further back to Psy's Gangnam Style and K-movies like Oldboy, which paved the way decades ago.
Some of the upcoming Korean Netflix offerings seem a bit weak to me (My Name and Hellbound) and we'll have to see which shows will be of sufficient quality to carry this momentum. I hope new viewers of K-dramas/movies will consider going through the back catalog of amazing works like My Mister though!

Oh #1in US too?.that's interesting...not surprising though because this definitely has mass audience appeal....especially also with the more shocking extreme violence and constant life or death situations..also...this has been dubbed.sadly I think western audiences have a fascination with violence so gentler subtler shows like my mister initially confuse some..but more to explore here...thanks for sharing 👍😎

Coming fresh off watching My Mister twice, I jumped into Squid Game and immediately noticed the similarities in the plot points that are quite glaring - seemingly insurmountable debt and violent loan sharks. One can see semblances of Lee Ji An in North Korean defector Kang Sae Byok as well - solitary, trusting no one yet deep beneath the layers lie a genuinely kind heart. Not to mention the devotion to family.
I’m trying to imagine what it would be like should Ji An join the game as well. Can’t help but think she would have found her way straight into the frontman’s office cutting a deal. 😉
What I like best about the drama is that despite planting elements that could lead to a season 2, the show at least provided closure as to the brains behind the whole thing. What I would hate to see is for Korean shows to descend into western-type series where every ending is open-ended to draw interest for a possible next season, but the show can actually get cancelled, leaving fans with unfinished business. 😭

now there's an interesting thought:what if Ji-An popped up in Squid game? You crack me up..that's interesting! You're right...they have similar elements at play despite being utterly different dramas..good one!

Thanks. I've been on the fence about this one. I've seen a similar Japanese show called Alice in Borderland that I really enjoyed, but it's not the type of show I normally watch. I will give it a shot, especially if it's something you're going to review in the future. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your insights.

I do not like violence but it was still too interesting to miss. I appreciate all the foreshadowing including the gift Gi-hun gave to his daughter was from a game of gamble and skill, looked like the coffins in the game (black box with pink bow) and showed how the contestants will die (gun and fire). Gi-hun also entertained himself and gambled by betting on horses in contest. Then, he becomes a "horse" bet on in the game. Many of the deaths were foretold as well including jumping off a bridge, theft, suicide, knife to the neck, swearing on his mother's life, etc. Also, the art direction alone is something to behold. Finally, the whole world seems to be watching together. Other than Olympics and World Cup, I can't remember an occasion like this. Thank you for your great videos!

    • @ManVsDrama

Great connections made there...I just realised he seems to be getting a lot more genuine enjoyment out of betting on horses or anything himself than the rich people who bet on them...thanks for sharing! 👍😎

@@ManVsDrama I'm from the Seattle, WA area. I used to brag about my ability to detect the origins of accents. I've had some legendary slip-ups over the years. Finally, a few months ago I was getting my car serviced at the local Nissan dealer. I was talking with the mechanic and I said, "I'm going to make a guess here based on your accent... Are you from the Bayou? He goes "Huh?" I said, "Yeah, Louisiana's Bayou country." He said, "The Bayou? No!! I'm from Ireland!" And a good friend of mine who hails from London's West End, she heard that story and said to me, "Derek my dear, its time for you to hang it up for good. You're no good at accents. Sorry, not sorry." (And my favorite Washington Huskies / Seattle Supersonics basketball player of all time was Detlef Schrempf, from Germany). Anyway, back to the dramas! End of Digression.

Worth Watching? Absolutely! The comments you made, and the folks made in the comments are all very good reasons to see it. Great? Nope, not for my money. Definitely not. Why? It fails the "greatness" test on two levels. Number 1 is that the game is totally unbelievable. To be great a show has to pass the suspended disbelief criteria. There's no possible way the game goes undetected by S. Korean police. Too many people disappearing and too many new really wealthy people turning up, rags to riches, without explanation. S. Korea is likely the most heavily monitored of the western style liberal democracies in the world, which is understandable, perhaps necessary, given it's hostile and dangerous neighbors. The authorities Would Notice, and investigate. Number 2 is more personal taste than anything else. The show caters way too much to today's LCD of blood and gore. Yes, it has a point to make, but it needn't have been as crass as it was to do it.
Yeah, I know, the game was detected and investigated by a low level cop. Corruption at the top sweeping it under the rug? Not at all believable. Too much money and too many people involved. It does not work.

한국 문화가 해외에서 왜 인기가 있는지 한국사람으로 써 이해가 되지 않습니다. 한국의 문화가 전세계적으로 영향을 주고 있나요? 어떤 점이 다른 나라 문화와 차이점이 있을까요?

Id be curious what other people think but I just think Korean drama production in general has a lot of talented people in it...there's a well developed industry at work in TV and music...with the arrival of netflix and all it was bound to spill further than Asia..
