    A woman who lost her husband is called a widow.
    A man who lost his wife is called a widower.
    A child who lost heir parents is called an orphan
    There is no word for a parent who lost a child because no words can describe the pain.

      And there are no words for a female whale who has lost her newborn because the raw emotion can be at best utterly unbearable for this poor mother whale. I wonder if we humans from the Christian faith can attempt to help the grieving mother whale deal and to come to terms with her loss through prayer. Same as with a male orca after the loss of his female mate. If we may attempt to help this grief stricken male orca through prayer, we may be able to better understand our fellow creatures in the wild.

One talks about a human carrying around a dead baby for 3 weeks. Where has the brains gone of people nowadays. It seems no one makes any sense whatsoever. It’s actually hard to believe these comments. Smdh 🤦‍♀️

      It can be dangerous when it comes to the wellbeing of animals because people assume they have the same needs as people and dont care for their needs as animals. For example, people who keep their snakes outside of their tanks because the snake is "lonely"- despite the fact that your house is NOT hot enough for them to be comfortable and snakes are NOT social creatures. Over time, this will stress them out and make them sick

      @CHEVYedsf 6 років тому +3

      I think of anthropomorphic traits as saying animals can talk and think like people, not that animals don't have emotions, because they DO. You can't watch all those videos of dogs seeing their owners after a long separation and tell me those dogs aren't ecstatic to see their people. You can't tell me that a cat who head butts you and purrs and wants to be held by only you doesn't love you. You can't follow the story of this whale and say that animals don't feel grief. Animals feel emotions, they love, they feel grief, they feel anger, they get irritated. Animals feel emotions just like we do, they just can't express it like we can.

    Let her grieve. Human interference hasn't worked so well in the past. Why don't we create a healthy habitat for these animals. Stop depleting the fish stocks (this pod's source of food), reduce toxic runoff from farms, reduce plastics and other contaminants in their environment. This entire pod is going extinct from human causes. Please - more coverage of that!

    I don’t know that I agree with his statement that she is trying to get the calf to take a breath. When orcas and other dolphins carry their dead infants like this they actually have to go through a process of breathing that involves them actually letting the body sink in the water for a bit so they can breath, and then go and pick the body back up. On top of everything else orca are able to echolocate and see inside another individual’s body. Elephants also do a similar grieving behavior when they come upon a carcass. I think she know’s the calf is dead, I just think like any other mother she refuses to let her baby go despite that.

In fact, if it weren't for SeaWorld offering itself as the "guinea pig" in the start of housing captive Orcas, we wouldn't know as much about this amazing creature without SeaWorld's involvement. Not to mention that SeaWorld has rescued countless animals for decades and were able to release them back living free and in the wild.

    Whales and the like can be more human like than us humans. The families stick together for life, they take care of each other, they feed each other. Her pod will probably feed her if it needs to be done. The matriarch may step in if she thinks it's needed, if this isn't the matriarch, and say enough is enough. It's time to let your baby go. It's time to move on. As our grandmothers would do to us in a similar situation. This is so sad and beautiful it the same time.

    I can't believe I'm hearing this woman refer to animals as being unable to feel emotions as a human does. They are alive, they feel fear, pain, grief the same as humans. Animals aren't unfeeling robots. Always sad to me to see an animal mother grieve for her baby. It's so sad

    There is NO emotion stronger than that of a mother for her young, especially in the wild. It is innate because it is necessary for her baby's survival in the wild. Of course all mothers grieve when they have lost their young, and depending on the animal, it can take a while for them to get over it. We do not know how an animal thinks for sure, because they cannot tell us, but we've studied them enough to learn a lot about them and their reactions long before Pavlov, and fear, hunger, predatory behavior, protection of their young in a mammal, and the intent to survive are all part of all animals behaviors. It does NOT denote anthropomorphism for people to recognize normal animal behavior and act accordingly. We should respect those behaviors and recognize them as being a part of animal's reactive behavior if we are going to have anything to do with animals at all! Until animals talk, we must go by what they do, but respect what they cannot say!

    Seriously guys? Loving ones baby is clearly not exclusively human. Anyone whose ever had a pet who had babies knows that! And sadly grief isn’t exclusively human. Again, anyone who ever had a pet and watched them lose a fellow pet friend or one of their young, knows very well that they can get deeply depressed.
