Yes, I know, I am STILL adding an extra syllable to the word AERATE, bad habit that may take awhile for me to break....
Hmm, funny, I always hear incorrectly used grammar, aerate totally slipped my ears. I need a hearing test asap 😃
@@kleineroteHex I had realized awhile back that I was pronouncing it wrong and then more recently, had some stranger that has never commented on a video before quite rudely correct me on it on one of my older vinegar videos. I asked them how many words they pronounced wrong and had complete strangers shame them publicly for it. Then I went on to say that unless they were perfect, in which case I was not worthy to have them as a follower and hoped they could find a channel as perfect as themselves so they would not get so irritated by humane mistakes. haha
@@RainCountryHomestead rude!!! I hear things all the time, I cringe, I start counting, I brush it off, sort of😁 I only commented one time when some one used it in the title, all caps lol. I realize most you tubers talk the same - I put the poor grammar on the school system 😉 and a lot of people mispronounced words, even well educated ones, you're in good company there 😁 the grammar gets to me, but that's my pet!
Rain Country actually that extra syllable is often used by Brits.
@@edieboudreau9637 Like they do with the word "aluminum"? Cool!
Had no idea that fluoride can damage your thyroid. No wonder many people have a thyroid condition because of cities adding fluoride to the water. I know I have one and am on medication for hypothyroidism. Will be adding the filter definitely to my Berkey system to remove that! Thanks Heidi for that info!
To areate in a grid down situation,a hand crank egg beater is great. My herbalist friend Joanne, threw a large pinch of food grade clay into her gallon jug of her well water to attack any impurities. (She had her well water inspected. It passed all tests.) She just liked the extra security. I have no idea how well it worked, but she was a avid researcher. I wonder if a pinch of food grade diatimacious earth might be good. Don't destrube the clay when getting the water. Just putting this here in case someone wants to do research. Also, there are DIY YT on how to build steam distillery using copper tubing & kitchen equipment like teapots. I enjoy comments beneath your videos Heidi. I learn from you & others.😊
i have a gallon of diatom in my garden shed. i think i'm going to give it a try.
Very helpful video, I use water filtered through my refrigerator but if we ever encounter a grid down, I will need other methods. I would love to have a berkey, but they are so expensive. Thank you dear friend, I am going to do notes on this video to add into my hard copy folder. In case the day comes we no longer have videos of Heidi to share her wisdom. Blessings
there are youtube videos for diy water filters. the big expense is the filters though. i got my water filter system back in the 90s and the filters are ceramic porcelain & washable/ i don't recall ever replacing them or wearing out but i could be wrong there. i do have a couple of spares though ready to go.
Congrats on reaching 40,000 Subscribers. I am so happy for you guys! All the Best, and God Bless.
Thank you Heidi; for another great video helping us to know how to not use water that is not good for us.
I had no idea ascorbic acid could do that! We recently (finally!) bought a berkey and have decided it was one of our best investments to date!
Yeah, the ascorbic acid was a new one to me too when I was trying to look up boiling times and I found that information on several different websites so it wasn't just on one place.
Heidi I recently read by adding lemon slices to my jug of water will also neautraluze chlorine. I scrub my lemons with baking soda and vinegar to remove any chemicals before using them.
This would make perfect sense since that is one place citric acid comes from :)
Chloramine, if added by your municipality, can also be taken out safely by catalytic charcoal filtering which is a highly enhanced form of activated charcoal. Some full house and under the sink filter systems have this option. Understand, though, regular charcoal filters only take out chlorine. You need a catalytic charcoal filter.
The other method is by adding chemicals that take out the chloramine, which is not ideal at all. I won't ever go that route.
Thank you for your videos.
Great video! I would like to add that boiling or hot/warm showers is even worse than drinking chlorine. Breathing in chlorine & absorbing it through the skin has higher levels of intake than drinking it. I have city water & have installed a pelican brand shower filter. Just an idea for those out there looking for something. It does not filter out the fluoride. I need to upgrade someday. 🙃
I use a Berkey filter with the fluoride filter as well. (They still make them) Also, Zero water pitcher & Berkey were #1 in filtering everything out including Glyphosate. The study I can’t remember if it included fluoride. But that might help those that don’t have the money for Berkey filtration or RO system as of now. Also you can add the citric acid to bath water. 🛀 Don’t forget some Eason salt! ( can cause skin irritation: itchy)
Our family has a history of thyroid issues. Healed mine through a journey through. “Stop the thyroid madness” & “ Dr. David Brownstein protocol”. With iodine. Just throw that out there as a start for those looking for alternative ways to heal their thyroid. God bless ☺️
We have a video on how we got off our thyroid meds that we were on for 15 years each. Been off for around 8 years now and feel great :)
The zero water filter made my water burn my insides n toungue for a few days. I do have me/cfs n we are notorious for reacting weirdly to stuff, but just thought id put it out there that sensitive peeps might wish to avoid. I asked for a replacement but same issue albeit milder n only 2 days
Brilliant video with lots of great info ...... thank you!
Wonderful to learn about all these different methods to get rid of chlorine. Thank you! ☺
Thank you for sharing this! I need this for my tropical plants!
Congratulations on 40 Thousand Subscribers! My Berkey was a Godsend. Love your system. Great information, thanks for sharing. God bless!
Thank you !!! Yes, being able to filter and use rain water for the past 7 years or so was one of the big steps that made it possible for us to get off and stay off the thyroid meds!
I used the Berkey, but I need to do more. Berkey is a little expensive, so finding other ways will help the budget. Thank you.
God is good! Blessings!!!
Very informative a must know how for everyone! Thank you Heidi
🌾Hello Heidi thank you for your knowledge you're right, 🌱God is good!☘️
Boiling will kill some but increase some chemicals, especially tap water - there is a whole chemistry lab in some city water!
It would increase the renaming fluoride and other chemicals that do not evaporate only because some of the water evaporates out causing the reset to be more condensed. Patrick can tell you all about it since was in water treatment for a good many years. He once got a double ear infection that also affected the skin all around the out ear, including his ear lobes. It was so bad nothing he tried, even doctor prescribed antibiotics, got rid of it. I was just getting into the more natural way of healing then and had just been learning of coconut oil. I told him to try that as a last ditch effort and amazingly, it worked. Well, all that story is to say that I had watched a documentary on the BP oil spill and there was this part about the chemicals they used to "clean" it up. They pretty much hired guys off the street to do this and these guys were getting these bad infections in their ears with brown ooze coming out of them. That is what Patrick's had done during that time so I started asking him if anything had happened at the treatment plant prior to the infections. He told me there was a big spill of a certain chemical and he had been highly exposed to it but never told me about it because he did not want me to worry!
@@RainCountryHomestead yeah, our 10000s of chemicals will be our demise, I just hope those who make them and those who allow them will get their fair share 😆
@@kleineroteHex Right!
Our tap water was tested. High nitrates. Which increase with boiling. Had to buy our filtered water. Ugh

When I was house sitting I didn't have my 5 gallons of backup water. So I split my yeasts in half batches in case my ferments failed. Well, all my ferments were fine and with crap salt too..
I use vitamin c but only 1/8 teaspoon per gallon and it works great on my city water.
Great info I have wanted better water for coffee thanks for sharing
One way to speed up the aeration method is to introduce bubbles via an air pump with an air stone.
i use solar powered submersible aquarium pump/filters (they are inexpensive too !!!) in my compost tea, biochar activation and my rain water collection. i would also add one to my aqua rain drinking water filtration (berkey twin) but my family drinks too much water and the poor filter has trouble keeping up. we will never have a drinking water with the water filter.
Informative! I am on tap water right now but we do not have fluoride in our water...😄
Thanks Heidi for more options. :)
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm learning a lot.😃😃😃❤❤❤❤👋
Boiling water will remove just about any dissolved gas, including oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and chlorine. This process is normally know as degassing. AND oxygen is not soluble in water under high temperatures. You will need to add oxygen to water after boiling it especially in any process where the organisms require oxygen. I'm sure an aquarium owner will tell you boiling water is the worst way to try and add oxygen to it. Or am I mistaken?
no sir, you definitely are not mistaken.
My city water actually makes me sick do to the chlorine in the water. So I was finally able to get a Berkey.
So much junk in that city water!
@@RainCountryHomestead yes it does. I only have the 2 black filters in my Berkey is that enough?
We have a well with a spring in the bottom and gutters off the house. With all the farming in our area, I'm not comfortable with drinking it any more 🙁 I do catch rain water. I don't run it through a filter, but I do add colloidal silver, more for storage than anything else, though it doesn't store that long. Growing up in the country, drinking out of creeks and such would have killed me by now if it was going to. Not that our government can't put some nasty stuff in the air. I love the taste of cool, fresh rain water and always have. I consider rain water far and above better than the water that comes out of the taps in our closest town. I have had people pull a nasty face at hearing I drink rain water, so I just don't say much anymore. I know. I'm a dinosaur 😢
Thanks.
Maranatha!
Hi Heidi. I just received my silver generator -thank you! May I ask, Can I use Berkey Filtered water instead of distilled to make the Colloidal silver? I don’t have distilled right now. Thank u
Yes, that is all I use is our rain water filtered with a Berkey :)
Rain Country awesome! Thank you for the quick response and answer.
Thanks so much Heidi !!

4.5 days minimum if it is chlorine. A lot of cities have gone to chloramines because it doesn't dissipate. That's why they made the move to chloramines. If it is cloramines, you have to use either filtration method or chemical declorinating method especially, for fish tanks and you'll have to use a declorinator for that. If you can't use it for fish by letting it sit; please don't drink it. I use fish tank declorinator for my tanks and plants and for me a filter. If you boil it it changes the ph; not for fish tanks either. For people, boiling is best or filtering for chlorine. I haven't heard whether cloramined water can be boiled and it work only chlorine. Please do you have a reference source that I can access for this info. I am leary to drink what I can't even put in a fish tank. I do boil a lot of my water, because ours is chlorinated community well water and not city cloramined water. I'm very interested in your information sources and this is a excellent topic for people to learn about. I always love your topics for thinking people and your videos. You've educated me on some topics. Never stop. Life teachers are needed.
When I put such information together, I resource various sites trying to avoid those sites that are trying to sell a product such as filters or chemicals. Those sites are the ones that try to convince us that the only or best way to do something is to buy their product. I cannot remember where it was exactly that I found the information on boiling. As far as time for chlorine to evaporate out, I found various different numbers but it really depends on the amount of water, temperature of the room it is in, the PPM of the chlorine, the size of the opening of the vessel, and whether or not it is exposed to UV light so 4.5 days MAY be a safe number over all but there are far too many variables to take into account.
Just a note: my husband was in water treatment for about 20 years.
Excellent thank you
Great tips! 👍👍👍
Great tips, thank you!
I've noticed over the past few years the water here in San Diego has gotten so much chlorine in the water. My tap water smell like bleach.
If I remember correctly, Patrick told me before that if it smells like chlorine, they are actually not using enough. Which I do not understand. I will have to ask him that again when he gets up. He was in water treatment for over twenty years
HiGOD IS GOOD ALL THE time❤❤❤
Thank you!
You're interesting, I'm subscribing.
Hi thank you for this video❤, I was could i use the tap to put i to my ready fresh water dipenser, if not im going to give it back and just boil my water thank you in advance
What about chlorine dioxide. Will boiling 20 mins get rid of it?
You want to have chlorinedioxide in your water not out
How do you do your shower and bathtub?
I have white 5 gallon buckets. would that be ok to use those?
One teaspoon ascorbic acid to one gallon of water to remove chlorine ok for fermenting... or boil 15 to 20 minutes... Curious, what is along the wall at the counter, looks like little pockets with greenery.
That is simply fake ivy garland over string lights. It is how I light most of my home year round:
ua-cam.com/video/lmLKYPri968/v-deo.html
@@RainCountryHomestead pretty... I did see it more clearly in a video I watched after this.
Bleach and cholorine are same?
👍
Very informative loved your video. We are having fluorosilic acid added to our water. Can that be removed the same way using the evaporation method?
Fluoride can only be removed with special fluoride filters, distilling, or reverse osmosis
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you for responding...that is bad news.
I saw a creative way on youtube years ago. Some one was using the sunlight to distill water.
Some say distilled water is unhealthy, but why would rainwater be any better?
Rainwater is distilled water initially but as it is collected off our roof, we still have to filter it. It is not that distilled water is UNhealthy, is that it is lacking minerals found in other water sources but since there are many other great ways to get minerals in one's diet, this is just not a concern.
Can you substitute a vitamin c tablet for the lemon? What about lemon juice?
No, NOT a tablet, maybe a capsule that you open and dump in there but tablets should always be avoided when talking about supplements. I am not sure a tsp of lemon juice would have enough ascorbic acid to do the same thing and I am not sure how much you would need to equal a tsp of ascorbic acid
How do we De-flouride water? That is my biggest health concern .
Yes, the fluoride was always our biggest concern, I do mention the best way to do that in this video as well.
as always a clear and thorough explanation ive lived in this house 12 years i tried the tap water when i moved in and loathed it it tastes horrible nothing has died in the water tank nextdoors water tastes fine i only drink and prepare all food with pure distilled water i have 25 gallons stored in recycled glass bottles donated to me ive never watered my garden with the tapwater i brought 4 400L water butts within a week of being here when you 'process' your water it makes you mindful of ever drop i have a filter on my shower i dont bath i have chlorine tablets in case of emergency
Please, for the love of God, use punctuation. 😂
there are filters that you can put on your shower head to dechlorinate you shower water.
Which brand do you recommend that’s effective?
Adding a pinch of salt will immediately remove/neutralize chlorine.
I know there are certain toxic sodium based chemicals that can do that but not sure about regular edible salt. One should research that more before depending on that one. If it does work, that would be good water for using when fermenting vegetables.
@@RainCountryHomestead I use sea salt. The water in my area is very highly chlorinated so I use small amounts of natural salt to remove it for drinking and for my large aquarium water as well. I can immediately tell the difference with the smell and taste.
If you add ascorbic acid to the water do you still need to let it sit in sunlight for a while?
i don't i use a water test strip kit that tests it before i use it though. it does need to sit for about 10 mins though. per gallon of water. sunlight not necessary.
Hello Heidi, has anyone here mentioned about vitamin c removing chlorine and chloramines.? It's supposed to work within minutes and is inexpensive. Curious to know here. Thanks
I was thinking I had mentioned it in the video but it was awhile ago so I do not remember now
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks for the reply. I missed that somehow. I'll use the ascorbic in my bulk garden water barrels. 👍 I enjoy learning from you!
Darn, I thought you just had to leave it overnight or for 24 hours and I didn't know you had to put cloth over it so I've just been putting it in a jar and using it the next day.
The cloth is not necessary for the dechlorination process, it is for keeping dust, lint, and other particles that are always floating around from falling into it. 24 hours may enough, especially in a jar with a wider opening, I went three days because I was using jugs with a smaller opening.
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks!
Well, that might just be extra chlorophyl..haha So, I had to come back and edit this because I did hear from some doctor (I believe) that algea will produce oxygen during photosynthesis. Just food (haha, see what I did there?) for thought.
I never saw the original comment so I am not sure what you are referring to exactly but yes, algae may have more chlorophyl but not all algae are healthy to consume
I don't know what you do with the bottle and jug have no idea cause you did not say how to use this idea.......learnt only that getting some filters would be best and providing a link
What exactly is yore question, it is not very clear? Are you asking where I store them? Where I get them? This video was about dechlorination, not storage or other such though I have videos on that too, including our rain water catchment set up
@@RainCountryHomestead What do you do with the jugs covered with cloth? Do you just sieve the water
@@corinnadewar392 If you are talking about the way I used to dechlorinate before setting up our rain water collection system, once they sit for a few days I simply put a lid on them. The cloth is to allow the chorine to off gas
@@RainCountryHomestead oh. okay. thanks
Thanks
