What an amazing officer. His outstanding work caught a killer. Bravo - justice done!
This is one of the most thorough investigation I have ever watched.I love it.Bravo to the officer for dedication himself fully to truth finding.
A different area, another detective, & he'd have probably gotten away with it. They really pulled out all the stops on this one.
That is some seriously competent investigator.
What a bloody good detective.
Unbelievably thorough investigation. Amazing job
This is the best I’ve ever seen-thorough investigation, creative thinkers relentlessly searching for the truth-outstanding! Thank you
Outstanding work from the detective!👏
"He was coherent..." Ok he totally did it.
Dave McDonald is a proper copper , clever guy.
Absolutely love how indepth the officers went and how much explanation we got from specialist. That pinhole camera stuff is fascinating.
Yeah all of that in 1994 too or shortly thereafter. Very interesting forensics.
@@rhmrr01 ??? Stupid, ah the Province of Ontario has well over 1 Million Lakes! But you can't imagine that we might also have a River named Mississippi ? You need to do your Research Research Research, Marsha...
@@bullitt7544 So right, it's also and Indian word meaning great water. The name itself was originally a French word I believe from the Algonquin area. Not everything is an American thing 😂 Love these Canadian Docos. British ones are pretty good too. 👍
@@rhmrr01 🙄 Blah Blah
I’m very impressed by Constable Burch. He knows these people and still investigated and tested the water temp.
This force actually investigated and didn’t immediately take the word of the husband.
It was probably slow at first, not wanting to believe, but he did investigate and listened to his doubts.
Even if I was in the car with a complete stranger I’d try to save them. Not say “well there’s no point in both of us dying “ and save only myself! This evil man left his wife to die?! That act alone says he’s guilty!
Well normal people would TRY to help, yes. But saving yourself is a bodily function, you cannot stop it. Go ahead, try not breathing for as long as you can.
Can't die, right?
So I would imagine it's the same for this- try to help, and then you automatically go and save yourself. I've never been in that situation, so I can say maybe you'd go back in?
@@lilmshavok7297 pretty sure I’d help
@@apet1712 so can I. But your body doesn't always agree lol
@@lilmshavok7297 not at all... there are literally thousands of cases all the time of people dying while trying to save somebody else. Right off the top of my head I can think of three local cases in the last two years... diver drowning while trying to save his buddy... father drowning trying to save his son after boat overturned and a passerby that dived in to help a person swept away and then drowned while the victim survived. Some people will quite readily sacrifice themselves to save another. I don't see how the impulse to breathe is at all relevant.
We’d both be dead. There’s absolutely no way I could leave my wife to die. Period!
Thanks to the detectives, especially Dave MacDonald.
Smart detectives, wow!
"Haven't had a harsh word in years" no one asked him anything🤦GUILTY
This is high quality detective work wow
Great investigation work!
I'm ashamed to say I'm a Canadian, born and bred, and I had no idea we had a Mississippi river.
Well I'm from the US and I didn't know that either. I actually had to re-watch the first part where they were saying that bc I thought maybe I heard that wrong. Lol.
Me, neither. I blame being a westerner.
There's a river in the US, called The Canadian River.... Some call it the South Canadian River. I happened upon it, while driving through Colorado. Fun Fact... Or useless information? LOL
Irk I'm from Ontario and didn't know
@@HeavYMetaLSlave4U no information is ever useless, lol.
Pleased he never got a day peace great investigative work his greed was what gave him away
Awesome great job police work thank you for your service and cracking his face May the victim rest in peace.
That's some thorough investigation there! And boy was that guy obvious about the conspiracy once you scratched the surface. Wow.
A cremation should never take place before a thorough authopsy is done.
Depends on religion
@@RicheetheBeeInvestigation takes precedence over any religion since cremation destroys all evidence. Autopsy then they can cremate or Bury the body.
Love forensics! Wow that detective inspector was brilliant excellent work!
I love to watch these cases to see how they get all the pieces to make a complete picture. Forensics is fascinating.
Yes. My thoughts exactly!
Thank goodness he did his due diligence.
Wow!!! The photo recreation for measurement is amazing!!!!
This is a very evil man for drowning his own wife in the bathroom show's the man didn't love his wife! Killed her for life insurance using credit cards WOW what a worthless husband! He didn't even feel any remorse for what he had done evil!
Well daaah, OFCOURSE he didnt love her as he killed her
That funeral home visit with the marks on the face took it from 87% to 110% for inspector Dave Macdonald it looks like. He looks quite disturbed just reminiscing that!
Sometimes I wonder if Killers don't watch these type of shows to find out what not to do. Especially the serial killers.
Amazing work on this video. The only thing that bothers me is that it took justice so long to get served.
Little did he know he only had 10 years left on this earth. They say time is a man’s worst enemy I would have to add greed to that
OUTSTANDING, OUTSTANDING INVESTIGATION! OVER AND BEYOND ANYTHING I'VE EVER HEARD OF OR SEEN!!!
These commercials are such a pain in the butt. When is UA-cam going to understand nobody wants to see them stupid commercials.
How do you think they get paid? What you could do is pay for cable. And you can even pay extra so you don't have any commercials. But I do not like the BS stuff they're trying to sell it's a bunch of Lies. At least some of the commercials. So sorry to see you stop watching UA-cam hope you enjoy paying for cable.
So many of these crime shows are about spousal murder. Some are not about money but I still think a divorce is cheaper. Did her son get the insurance money?
Intro is at 10000 decibels, actual show can barely be heard. Great job.
I'd want Dave MacDonald on my case or my loved ones, if God forbid something happened to us. 👍
Very interesting case. The guy was so brazenly ruthless about the insurance , but it was his undoing in the long run and surely it wasnt worth spending his last years fighting a murder charge no matter how much money he might have gotten away with! His poor wife to give her loyalty to a man who saw her as only a death insurace financial asset .
He didn't want her to live he killed her for insurance
@@angeliapittman4776 Yes so horrible for her to give her love & affection to a man who wants her dead. Its so sad for her to be treated that way. Truly people can be so cruel to each other.
This is absolutely incredible. It's amazing how the guy made the pinhole camera to figure out the distance of the truck in the water.
Why aren’t all deaths treated as suspicious until they are proven not to be? All scenes should be treated as crime scenes until proven not to be. It doesn’t cost much to tape off an area and take pictures.
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
In other words my thoughts exactly
They are in the UK. But you live in the dumb USA.
Money and manpower
All?
Only a small fraction of deaths are caused by murder. Of course, sometimes mistakes are made, but for the most part, it’s clear the scene doesn’t warrant suspicion.
Also, it isn’t just “tape and pictures.” It then goes beyond routine police work to include homicide detectives. A variety of specialists could be needed, then there’s the addition of lab work…evidence collecting alone could take days…results take months..all the phone calls and interviews..
It’s a whole entire event that costs a lot of money and requires a lot of people
Greedy, evil acts of people never seem to amaze me anymore. This proves that the truth will surface.
Wow. Awesome detective work.
The love of money is the root of all EVIL!!!!!!
the fact he left her in the water and was calm about it. yeks! ps I love to watch this show before bed time ...
Yeah. I also watch. Then get nightmares
I would die trying to save my husband
Great detective work! Thank you! 8.2.22
Demonstrates very clearly how team wk. & perseverance pays off for the right people. His 'payoff' ... 25yrs and an early death from stress induced Cancer.
Great investigation. 🙂
That part featuring the pinhole camera was *sooo* cool. I didn't realize anyone outside of a snooty art school photography major used one. Fascinating. 😂😂😂
The artist Vermeer (he painted "Girl with a Pearl Earring") used a style of pinhole camera (camera obscura) to arrange his scenes and achieve accurate representation of light and shadow (chiaroscuro). What I *didn't* know was that they were used as early as circa 320 BCE. Obviously, they didn't have photo paper, so they just used the opposite opening to kind of "project" the image onto a wall or canvas.
OMG! Wonder how much these two trials,
seven years of investigating
as well as his stay in prison, cost the taxpayer❓
If the dude would have gotten his wife out of the car and pretended to give CPR he would have gotten away with it.
@@hanamezei7019 the autopsy that was requested because of suspicion that he was lying about being in the cold for that amount of time?
I like the way you think 🤔
Not with the face injuries. You cant blow into a person's mouth during CPR and get a beaten up face as a result.
@@hanamezei7019 none of that would have come out if he wasn't looking suspicious at the time of the incident. If they didn't dig around because the hypothermia didn't add up, it would have been a freak car accident. That's all.
Noooo! Nope 😃
Look, I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure that "nurse" was giving CPR to her stomach, not her heart.
Absolutely nothing about that scenario was realistic lol
Lol everyone noticed that..no wonder patient didn’t revive😁
@@honeydate 🤣🤣🤣
Ha ha ha!
Luckily it was a staged scene. Otherwise I would say the victim died of incorrectly applied CPR.
Samuels was super methodical …
Your pre-show ad is 70% louder than your video.
Either make it quieter or your video louder. Ads are annoying as it is, don't make it worse

I agree. That damn ad nearly blows my ears apart before I get it muted!
J F really wow
@@curtislavallee8444 Why wow?
They may not realize the disparity, simply trying to help
I agree, way too loud.
Did I miss a part where they tested the water in her lungs to see if it was river/lake water vs hot tub water?
Imagine going into the insurance agent ON THE DAY you kill someone to check that the EXACT way you plan to kill them is covered...
Complete scumbag, thank goodness the officers picked up on the signs and put him away
How someone can “off” ANYBODY for money is beyond me, but your wife? The woman you swore to God to protect? You’re definitely going to hell where you belong. Rest in peace’s.
When a person is in water that is 2 degrees Celsius (35 degrees Fahrenheit) you will die from hypothermia in about 45 to 60 minutes. There is no way he could have lived for 90 minutes in water that cold.
You are wrong - there is a child that was submerged in cold water even longer, and it survived. No rule without exception.
μισή ώρα και πολύ λέω.
Very impressive!
Fascinating case! Great police investigating. Thank you!
What about analyzing the water in Barb's lungs? There's a big difference between hot tub water and river water. Or maybe it was too late by the time they theorized that scenario.
GREED IS A DEADLY SIN!
I was wondering the same thing. I thought they were gonna go there, testing both waters but nope, looks like the didn't even think about doing that.
I've seen this in another documentary.... if i recall correctly, they did.
excellent detective work but the Canadian jurisdictions was way to weak the leniency didn't give the law enforcement enough creditability for the hard work they put in to solve the case and to swiftly arrest and put the criminal behind bars longer. There is too many holes in the criminal system allowing the criminal to breath and plot their next move.
Her eyelash moved....
Great coverage. I'm from Ontario Canada
Impressive police work!!
He just a pure monster
It's the incredible acting for me.
I don't get how the guy flipped his truck into the Mississippi River got out and didn't get hurt himself. It's obvious his wife was already dead when they entered the water?
She was dead before they hit the water. It was a slow and controlled 'accident''.
Even a slow controlled drive into a river is dangerous, he could have been hurt. He couldn't have know it would turn over either. How greedy can a man be and still expect to get away with murder? He killed his wife and sent himself to prison where he died of cancer, alone and despised. All to try and get money, horrible.
That is the big puzzle I am left with also and they never mentioned it. Took quite a chance. Was lucky and then did some crazy obvious stuff. Still if it wasn't for that ONE officer....
If only all investigations were this damn thorough.
In My Opinion, This Case Was Another Life Insurance Policy Involve 💔😢
Geez! What an evil, greedy man! He kills his wife for insurance money?! Greed certainly turned him into a bloodthirsty killer. He’s the type of person who doesn’t belong on the streets! I’m glad justice was served in this case!
4:33, no wonder poor Barb died. That nurse doesn't know how to do CPR.
To do crime you must smart. But smart people got better things to do.
👍
Seems like it’s just Gary’s way of divorcing Barbs?
Brilliant police work, and kudos to the amazing stunt woman for an amazing peformance.
They guy lives in a cold place and does not know that few minutes in a frozen water give hypodermis, but openly lies saying 90 minutes.
Excellent work everyone.
Never have life insurance/s! Check what your partner has...
The number of breathing corpses in this series is genuinely concerning. Lol
😃

LOL i thought this too ahahaha
HAHAHAHAHAHA
This is such a horrible crime by husband. RIP poor Barbara
well done video,,, well put together
Canadian true crime documentaries are the best. They go into detail on the investigation and do not re-traumatize the victims so that they can display the victims' suffering on camera.
Greedy people do stupid things. How bloody stupid obtaining so many insurance policies. My hubby and I can't afford to have life insurance although it's included in out superannuation but we would never kill each other. Money can be so evil.
28 life insurance policies! Holy cow
If that doesn't say this is suspicious I don't know what would.
This Mississippi River in Canada has no relation to the Mississippi River in the US. Our Mississippi River begins as a trickle of water in Minnesota. Confusing to say the least!
Man, I love this investigation.
Did the draining of the gas tank take into account the water pressure, it looks like in the experiment they just drained the tank without being under water. In addition I believed the water pressure on the car door would prevent it from being opened, but by smashing a window for an exit would quickly fill the car with water, possibly to a level where any remaining air in the car would be gone.
One of my friends was murdered by her husband. When the police found him he had scratches on one side of his face.
watching these to sleep>>>>
The husband talked about lifting his weight off of the seat belt so he could undo it under water. Wasn't the wife also wearing a seat belt? If so, her hands might not be up to prevent a forward contact with the windshield or the dashboard. But, by the same token, if she was wearing a seat belt her face would not have come in contact with the windshield or the dashboard, either. So, there would be no possible accounting for her facial injuries; especially under the mandible, and the left lateral cranial insult.
So they did another trial, why? He was found guilty the first time round. Why waste three months on a second trial where he was found guilty yet again!
For the perfect crime, just add WATER
Poor Gazzer, you can’t even get away with murder these days.
Makes one afraid to marry, there are so many episodes of so called loved ones killing the ones they supposedly loved.
McGyver? Oh hell, your boys in trouble now
Thanks
16:11-15 Her eyes! She was alive! How could they have missed that?
Interesting documentary

SMH.
This is a good one.
I am really not in favour of the death penalty but can't help wishing it was there sometimes for cases of such calculated evil such as this! Glad then that fate saw to t that he was never again free.
@Toni Hazle. There are definitely cases where it is warranted. So it should be case by case. I saw an excellent movie called " The Life of David Gale" based on a true story starring Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet.(2003) This film changed my thinking, on the death penalty.😎
