It is much worse then how Matt put it. They do not have to have a actually reason to search you. The act says they can check your data whenever they want WITHOUT A WARRANT AND WITHOUT CAUSE to make sure you are not doing anything "illegal" or what they claim is an arrestable cause.

I've never commented on this channel or Austin's main channel but I started watching his unboxing videos and I think you and Matt are both Hilarious but I really appreciate the open and honest discussion surrounding politicians and the restrictions being placed on Americans that can at first sound silly but can be quite serious as you dive deeper into the issue like most in our country but I just had to comment and say how much I appreciate the content! Keep the dialogue going 🙌🏾

Actually I'm all for the ban... Why? Because China is our enemy. They are not our friend at this moment... So when we give them access to our data and our videos they're getting to see what's around us so they can build data for their military to know where things are.. because so many people are stupid enough to make videos about military or to show they have guns and or take your data to take your money... But if that's none of that's true, it's still scary to give China our enemy any information of us?... Austin, you would give Matt your credit card yes u Would but would you give China your credit card? No you would not. So you see why they want to ban. But I believe they should do it in the right way. Find out if the company is really doing what most people think and if they are take care of it. If they're not then leave it alone... But I know smart people in this world that are smarter than a lot of us and they believe it should be banned

As an American of 20 years now, I have more than concerns regarding the priorities of certain political focuses such as “banning everything under the Sun without real comprehension of what those bans implicate”. Why ban platforms of discussion that should be given rights to the people who would actually make those decisions but instead what these politicians are doing is focusing on stupid non-essential worries like Tik Tok and Idk feeding the homeless? after school programs? How about anything other than saying “F you” to your citizens and not trusting us? I think that the government should be replaced with younger and more up-to-date leaders rather than lobbyists stuck in the 17th century.

The primary concern I have is exactly what Matt was mentioning. While it is TikTok that this bill seems to be targeting today, who is to say who or what it will target in the future? This act is about far more than TikTok, it is about control over the populace.

I have a TikTok with 440,000 followers. My most popular video has 44m views and I don't understand TikTok.
However, I have reported 100s of accounts with I'd say 80% being restricted. These range from sexually explicit content, minor safety and violence. I have been offered money and merchandise to push scams to my audience, the strange thing for me, they knew my largest audience was between 18 -24. I still don't know how they got that data. TikTok is fun but dangerous and while we can all disagree with this bill, we should be wary of trivialising the issue with social media and data collection. I agree with the idea that we need regulations, just maybe people in the industry should be consulted before imprisoning the population.

I encourage you all to READ THE BILL CAREFULLY. This is not going after individuals who want to use a VPN. VPNs aren't even mentioned in the bill. It's for businesses or entities who do millions of transactions/ year, with the countries listed in the bill. And the bill basically states that the government will be looking at these businesses and determining if they are doing anything illegal or sharing trade secrets with a foreign country or doing something outlined in the bill and then they can fine the company or business or put them in jail for up to 20 years. It's not going after individuals on VPNs ordering stuff from China. There’s too much mis information about this bill. I encourage you to read it section by section.

Also yes it doesn't mention VPNs by name but VPNs are a tool that can be used to "circumvent" the act. This bill is poorly written and gives the president WAY too much power. Let me remind you Trump labeled Canada a "national security threat" so he could tariff Canadian steel by executive order. "Intelligence has nothing to do with politics" -- Londo, Babylon 5
The hearing looked like security theater, the act looks like security theater; it doesn't address the core & anyone with a dollar to spend can buy a sh!!tload of data from the many data miners that are out there that have mined, collected, and sell it for a fee. This includes going through legal means and shadier means to buy/sell this data. The core of the issue is the data itself that is accumulated to no end.

Obviously people who have no idea about technology making decisions for all of us is very worrying.
However there is a genuine concern about tiktok and china gathering data.
I think tiktok should be banned, but your right that the idiots like this person muddying the water will complicate matters.
I appreciate that tiktok user's want to keep it but there are legitimate concerns, also bear in mind that all these social media apps are banned in china including tiktok but China is lobbying for it to be used in other countries. The whole thing does seem very suspect.

The issue is the countries listed collect user information and the government doesn't want them having access to the personal information of Americans. It makes sense tbh

1st of all, I don't mind it ceasing to exist, and 2nd I hope VPNs are fine for innocent use cases like trying to watch a movie unavailable on a popular streaming service yet available in countries like Canada.
Unless that's also illegal, then what are VPNs actually used for anyway?

    • @williamk52
      @williamk52 Рік тому +6

That actually is. It actually is pirating and the companies can get sued for providing to regions they are not licensed for.

That’s the problem. A VPN is supposed to protect users, but if it is then criminalized to use protections no matter the use, we loose the right to protect ourselves.
