Surprised he worked that entire time with the epic phasing issues from the reverb on the return track not being set to 100% wet. Other than that, interesting workflow setting the midi notes short and controlling the release. I thought that was pretty cool. Keep it up dood.
Select an area to the length you want then hit Ctrl Shift m on a pc and i thiiiink its cmd shift m on a mac? It will speed up your workflow a wee bit m8.
Is that kick trick to make it fatter like parallel compression? Or what? I use reason and i'm trying to figure out how to do it in reason... i'm drunk right now too so i feel like i'm misunderstanding this haha
He explained a Kick-Return-Trick with the words "it doesn´t affect the volume". He looks at the track-volume and not at the master-volume, while he explained. The kick get´s 4dB louder with the "trick" in the master-section and people think it is better, cause it only get´s louder and a little bit more compressed and high-cutted
I think you're missing the point - this video wasn't about making a tune ready drum loop. Just showing some nice tips and tricks, for those that want them.
it's so silly to put effort into tuning percussion. It's absolutely not necessary to put a rimshot, bass drum, snare , hit-hat, timbale, timpani, shaker, tambourine, woodblock or cowbell into the same key as the rest of your track. Think about any live band
Reverb on return tracks should be %100 wet. And adjust the amount from the send knob of the applied track. Otherwise you double the dry signal on the return track which as here can cause phasey sound.
It makes me happy that he said the exact same shit I say to myself every fucking time 😂 I'm on my way. Even if I can make my own grooves it just mixing that little bit better
can anyone explain to me what he means by open up a return track 1:45 has he just put them affects on the channel for the kick or that return one? would help me out if you can, niceone
Mine too. I really don't get how a lot of producers have their screens up there. It's non-ergonomic af. I understand people want some controllers, but not all the bulky gear that may go somewhere else just as well. (Maybe even above the screen.)
Picked up a few nice tips there , the one on using a compressor for the automation on the snare volume was good. But you can always use the utility on something that's been automated to turn it up or down ... Think I'll be using Max's tip from now on , cheers mate 👍
very nice sound! I think if you use classic ADSR mode the length of the midi notes does not control anything so does not mind if they are sort or long.
Nice tutorial, but why should i subscribe to an monthly abo, and a few weeks later the same tutorial is on youtube for free to visit for all??! Sry, but there is no special content for monthly subscribers...?!?
pretty sure all the videos on youtube are cut short (in half or less). with the mag you get the entire masterclass or tutorial. that's how computer music mag does it to.
Best tutorial on drums I've seen on UA-cam, been getting my head in a right pickle trying to get it sound right, but this has shown me exactly what I needed thank you a lot haha!
knopfler2006 there's nothing more annoying than a DJ not telling you what he's gonna play . you have to listen to his full set to find out . nothing worse .
Why didn't you put your display on the ceiling?
just looking for some comment like this, and... first one
Hahaha
uuuuu hahhahahhahah exactly what I thought
I'm so happy I found this! There are many techniques I've not seen before. Thanks!

Probably phasing as he's mic'd up, so you've got a blend of signals.
BREX aaaah it was the snares phasing not the hats
Snares for sure, but it was anything going thru Send B since it wasn't set to 100%.
Select an area to the length you want then hit Ctrl Shift m on a pc and i thiiiink its cmd shift m on a mac? It will speed up your workflow a wee bit m8.
did you guys put the mic in his nose?
its techno dust
I mean.... a monitor is too small, so why the fuck not get a TV as a monitor
That's what I do
would've been nice to see how he makes his basslines
we can wait for DIMISH OR DJOKO to show us that since they sound the same
Instablaster.

Is that kick trick to make it fatter like parallel compression? Or what? I use reason and i'm trying to figure out how to do it in reason... i'm drunk right now too so i feel like i'm misunderstanding this haha
Love the tip for Kicks using a return track with EQ & compression
Thank you for the vid, learned alot!
In my opinion, this is one of the best tutorials for tech house groove so far. Would definitely appreciate more from Max!
saliva
Keep going back to this one and learning something new every time. Great info and a big thanks!
same! xD
Cut and dry. You've shared something special here. A template for creating. Probably the most useful video regarding groove, ableton, and techno.

Meh drum loop tbh. Way over complicated and too robotic. Also sounds way too dry, kick needs more grit.
I think you're missing the point - this video wasn't about making a tune ready drum loop. Just showing some nice tips and tricks, for those that want them.
Is it just me or does guy seem really cold in that studio?
Great stuff from one of the best groovers in the game!

Wicked tutorial mate, good to have someone who isn't too serious about stuff and just enjoys making sound. Safe man
Road To Recovery you're from UK and you're poor. I can tell.
Thanks? Not sure what you meant by that.
It's like he's having massive cocaine withdrawals... "eehhHHH... hhhhHHH..... umhh..."
really -- dufff, crack = beat...
SO inventive!!!!
oh dear how sad nevermind :)
It makes me happy that he said the exact same shit I say to myself every fucking time 😂 I'm on my way. Even if I can make my own grooves it just mixing that little bit better
top tut thanks
Some good tips there. 👍
What samples are you using for the 909 hats? Sound really nice?
great video, simple but very effective techniques... the best part was "they wont be able to nick ur drums" I always do that too hahaha
can anyone explain to me what he means by open up a return track 1:45 has he just put them affects on the channel for the kick or that return one? would help me out if you can, niceone
Great tip on automating the volume on the compressor in the effects chain rather than on the track itself, so you can still mix it down later.
Se olvido del Groove Pool :v
Thank you brother, Jesus Loves You! Galatians 6:9

My neck hurts!

why does EVERYONE use "alberton"?
very nice sound! I think if you use classic ADSR mode the length of the midi notes does not control anything so does not mind if they are sort or long.
Thanks for sharing

Nice tutorial, but why should i subscribe to an monthly abo, and a few weeks later the same tutorial is on youtube for free to visit for all??! Sry, but there is no special content for monthly subscribers...?!?

everything is generic in regards to layout for the most part, he's not going to give away his sound. that's up to you as a producer to develop.
Thank you so much. The groove workflow was diamond !!!!!!!
Great video, still two years later, Thank you
How did he link the master to the kicks @ the end?
Hasnt found the native gain plugin yet :)
dont u check the pre fadering meter??
A simple straight up beat which always works well
Thanks for producing these tutorials FM.
Thanks Max for your time and share some good thoughts!
amazing
So basically 30 minutes for a plain and boring standard 4/4?
He did say it was basic. Starting with the simple stuff makes sense for beginners
Awesome video. THANKS MAX!
Good video, like the hats! and the off beat snare
All of the best music is formulaic.
THANK YOU!! you have a new fan by the way!
great tip
Thanks so much! Really helped me out✌️you are a genius

Cut and pasting bollox
love the kick trick epic man thx a lot !!!!
nice tips in this video, thanks for sharing
the basslines? ajajajaja
someone has a free sample pack?
Thanks so much Max Chapman and FMM
The video has to show the final result in the beginning. Nothing more annoying than watching a guy making a beat without knowing where he's going to.
he was just doing drums
knopfler2006 there's nothing more annoying than a DJ not telling you what he's gonna play . you have to listen to his full set to find out . nothing worse .
hahah
SKIP TO THE END THEN YOU MONG
I can think of a good 600+ things that are more annoying

That was an excellent tutorial Mark, thank you!
