- So, I bought this box set from China that supposedly contains every Need For Speed game on PC from 1995 to 2012... on nine DVDs.

Someone in China sat down and made custom installers, optimized the games and included all the need for speed releases till 2012, made the box and packaging to be as neat and convenient as possible. That person putted more work into this than EA in the last couple of years.
Don't you mean that the person put more work than Ghost Games studio and EA combined
Keep in mind that the custom installers, cracks, optimizations, compatibility workarounds and everything else aren't from just someone. All that work was done by piracy groups from across the internet, all over the world. Some shady Chinese company just slapped the pirated versions on discs, added Chinese instructions, and started selling them cheap to make easy money.
Anatoly Productions it's not that hard to do better than EA lmao.
To be fair what probably happened is that some Chinese company sat down and downloaded some fan made patches off the internet and put them on one disc.
So true,
The health warning label even says "don't play pirated games". lol
yes it actually did so lol
lmao that's so good
"Don't play pirated games"
Printed on a pirated game.
The irony is real.
that's the spirit
Uh-huh, with China's stellar record on copyright law. /s
Need For CDs.
need for cd... keys
We need classic Flat Earth, Anti Vax games! Oh wait, those didn't used to be things...
Sir Sic i give you two thumbs up for your pun and your name
LOL
Need for BOOTLEGS :-P
Greetings from China. This type of bootleg games were not sold in underground markets like usual bootlegs, but in major bookstores, malls etc. With a solid, big box, they're designed to fool people come by those stores and didn't know too much about computer games. And since the customers are not expected to be experts, they usually have something like a detailed readme or pre-configured installation to make it easy to run, especially old games. There were even playstation game with emulator sold in PC boxes. Sadly all my "collection" was lost after my graduation.
Probably around the time when big box pc games disappeared in the US, legit box(big or small) release of foreign PC games also disappeared from Chinease market. And these guys came from shadowy underground and filled in the store shelves. There are only a small number of native pc games still sold in big boxes in China these days.
PS: The content of the manual consists of healthy warning, system requirements and brief introduction of each game, like "NFS:Shift 2 is a more realistic racing sim". Some games have description of the game modes and options, while some don't. Some later games may come with Chinese translation, since they were released at the time when unofficial translation community started to be really active.

Figures....
Xun Zhu I still remember that when I was 9 years old, I went to the local book store to buy those well presented 15yuan official like games. Haha.

Sometimes, Chinese bootlegs are just adorable for the level of effort put into them. I like when they include hacks or cheats by default too. Regardless of language barriers, it's a universal gamer thing we all understand... "I wanna bend this game to my will."
It wasn't so much the bootlegers in this case. They're just selling pirated versions, from established piracy groups, just with Chinese instructions. All the fixes, cracks, workarounds, optimizations, compatibility stuff... That's all from major piracy groups, not Chinese bootlegers.
@@natsume-hime2473 your hate for Chinese bootleggers are so strong that you repeated the same comment.
China could keep Oddware going for years
Drink a Beer and Play a Game Bigclive has an entire UA-cam career based off of their electrical products alone
Oh I agree some of the stuff they make is seriously odd. I remember once finding this strange SIM card made by the Chinese, it allowed you to use 2 sims on a phone that only supports one! I would probably never use it but this thing was around before dual sim was a thing.
You mean for decades. The amount of odd stuff they pump out is truly staggering
Have you ever seen LGR's unboxing videos of all the stuff people send him in the mail? He already has more Oddware material to make videos on than he can possibly do within his lifetime.
i'm telling you that strange sim card is still a thing and it works for iphone too!

I can read them cause chinese is my second language
so that's how
Thanks man, cool that somebody translated.

If EA legit sell this I believe it would cost $100
Yeah, but i have to admit, a 100$ would still be a really fair price
$100, including one race, to unlock the others buy the DLCs
Only 100$?! Come on we're talking about EA lol
$100+$500 for the rest of the game
But without patching the games to work on Windows 10.
Caribbean bootlegs... looks like the real Pirates of the Caribbean were among you the whole time...

Unofficial EA rips being better than Official EA release. No surprise there.

I love the fact you know so much about the games that you can tell if the horn sounds different :P
This bootleg copy of need for speed comes from an alternate universe in which physx existed in 1998.
This looks like a very typical bootlegged PC games sold in China back in the CD/DVD-ROM days. They actually had a "R&D" software team to include all the cracks/hacks to make sure every game is working properly. Sometimes even in-memory game modifiers like Fix People Expert was included to give you the infinite HP/resources. Very thoughtful. :-)
Capitalising on an opportunity to make sure everyone gets to enjoy the game. I like it.
You might wanna come to Iran. We even have GTA 8 here
When I was in China I saw many ''legit'' bootlegs but the most impressive ones were those who were Ps2 games emulated and sold as normal pc games, like Gundam Federation vs Zeon and others.
DVD9 on the packaging is a dead giveaway it's a pirate - the format is notorious for bootlegs.
And which DVD format are official releases using?
And if they do, it's usually in small print, on the back. Bootleggers, for some reason, like to put it on the front of the box (or side like in Clint's case in the video) like it's a feature or something.
Well yes, with that I agree. But OP said that "the format is notorious for bootlegs" not "the DVD9 label is notorious for bootlegs" so that's why I was curious what other format he thinks that the official releases are using.
Not sure if EA would file a lawsuit against LGR if they find out this video......
DVD9 simply means it's a dual layer DVD. DVD5 is single layer. Some DVD players have been known in the past to have trouble with DVD9, so that might be why they post it.
"Need For Speed Car Things With Cool Music And Stuff" just slap that on the back of every NFS game from now on EA!
The old Microsoft logo immediately gives away that it's 101% bootleg.
Agsma, Just Agsma Microsoft still used the old logo for most of 2012 after the release of Windows 8
The Microsoft logo most likely wouldn't be there at all if this was a legit EA release.
@ShockwaveEXP I thought Microsoft retired that logo by the time they've rebranded their gaming division as Microsoft Studios and it became pretty much dead once Windows 8 arrived.
If you are from China then the thing that gives away its bootlegness is that they numbered all the games, from Need for Speed 1 to Need for Speed 16. It's a conventional way to refer to these games among Chinese players, but there's no entry number in the official names.
Daniel da Silva
If some of the games use the Games for Windows Live, then maybe Microsoft can be there?
The games working better than the official is a lot like bootleg movies and not having to sit through commercials and FBI warnings
Need more videos on bootleg releases like this. This is great
Glad you enjoyed it!
I agree there are so many bootlegs and some can be quite funny
China has a need...
A Need for Speed!!!
>ok

China has a need...
A need for money!!!
Bryce Mckenzie and clean air!!
Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown.
Now this is something I can get into.
laowhy86 I knew ill find you here
make a review of this game with Winston!
C-milk!!!!!!
I need some C-Milk and Winston crossovers with LGR. Also you two should go on the H3 podcast and/or Rogan to promote ADVChina, you guys would be great guests and get tons of exposure. Ethan even referenced Winston’s signature catchphrase on the show once.
I just saw you on RCR. Good taste in channels my man.
Expected NFO files and chiptunes, am slightly disappoint. Still a neat collection though.
what is funny about this release is, they have anti piracy warning @ 2:18 within the text inside the orange text box
The Chinese hacked games usually have their resource files messed with. Something to do with reducing download and disc size because people who buys bootlegs probably don't have/want to spend the money to upgrade their harddrive size.
I'm loving this video as well as your others.
I love stuff like this channel.
Even more humorous part about the health warning label, this is what the top sentence said:
"Suppress no good [unofficial] games, refuse pirated game [versions]. Be cautious of [your own] safety, to prevent [yourself] being defraued."
Nakashi555: heh, "defraued"
I'm not sure why you were so surprised at its quality. Illegal game copiers have a long history of stripping anti-consumer DRM, patching and fixing the games they distribute. As a contrast, why not try to find a legit copy of a modern EA game that will install and run on a completely offline computer?
I like your sense of humor
yes
can you do more, i am curious about the later games.
I think the issue with Need for Speed is related to DOSBox emulation. I've had the same problem where every car sounds like the Viper, but otherwise the game runs fine.
Actually, does NFS 3 Hot Pursuit come with the Physx installer as a result of confusion with the 2010 Hot Pursuit?
probaly
nice point
Nah the original Hot Pursuit was just way ahead of it's time.
This is actually pretty interesting, more so than I thought it would be. Imagine trying to be so legitimate they included the TOS agreement or whatever before installing. It's also extremely hilarious they included their save file on the last NFS game, that was too amusing. I'm glad someone was able to document this hilarity
4:35 - “Daemon Tools Lite” lol
Daemon Tools is for running games that are region locked on basically any PC.
lololol
That's not at all what the main purpose of DT is.
@@kiwirar5885 And to mount iso discs in a virtual drive.
This was one of your best videos! Bootleg stuff is cool as hell to me so keep bringing these on!
I'd love to see the rest of the compilation just to see what they did to these games. Also more videos about bootleg stuff is a great idea! I'm hoping that you'll make a series out of it, it's just a very interesting topic to me.
The menu is basically just introducing each Need for Speed game a little bit :)
Maybe the controls are mapped to different keys because Chinese keyboards are layed out different from American keyboards.
That could easily be the case, what are the odds?
Btw, nice photo, that brings me back :D
Nope, Chinese keyboards have the same QWERTY layout as american ones.
Preference would be a more likely answer. If the original user liked to use WASD for driving, then he probably preferred to have Q as the closest button to use as a handbrake without moving his hand.
This was neat haha. Would love to see more of these.
Cool! Thanks for sharing, Clint!
Any chance you could upload that NFS2 compat file? :D
ThePsyfurnosis why do you need the compact file
ThePsyfurnosis That would be pretty cool, just to see what they do to make it work
I'm also interested
>using nfs world logo
>not even containing nfs world
Boy at least edit your own photo
My first nfs was nfs 3. I played it in the 2000s and im still pretty young, but i loved it to bits. I watch your channel, because i grew up with outdated hardware and games. Your channel educates me about the early stuff and im so much into it. Still have a pc from 2004 somewhere :).
Hey, I haven't watched your videos for years. Great to see you are still awesome. Your passion for making videos is admirable and inspirational. :D
Deamon tools would be an add on dlc to install it if it was made by ea
I do wish that EA did release a collection box like this, as they did for C&C that worked on modern systems. Tho NFS II etc have 64 bit installers you can use now ofc to get that to work on Win 10. But is not the early games abandomware at this point?
Awesome piece of content. Keep up the great work! :))
This was cool. I want to see more videos of sets like this that i would never see.
Hnng, Motor City Online - right in the feels
Don't support the official release.
You mean official bootleg release? :P
don't support anime.
@@Cole-ek7fh I can get on board with that campaign.
TFS. I got it bro.
I really like how surprised you are that they work... That "expecting less" line had me chuckling sensibly.
My youth was Crazy Bytes and Twilight CD's. It was so damn popular in school. I remember a friend of a classmate hustled himself a locker, while he wasn't even enrolled in that school. During breaks they hauled the product in by the pallet. You got a discount if you helped with carrying it from the edge of the schoolyard to the locker, which was filled top to bottom with bootlegs. The distribution was kind of insane, given that we were all just a bunch of teenagers winging it and making some dough on the side back then.. I never got too involved, but those were good times. I think there's a few defcon presentations floating around here on UA-cam of a few guys that thoroughly documented that time. Great watch.
Thanks for sharing Clint, this brought back a lot of good memories!
So when purchasing this my money don't go to EA? Awesome, i don't wanna feed this cancer company.
You wouldn't be anyway I doubt any of them are around anymore.
Cancer? Oh I guess EVERY single NFS game is SHIT according to SALTY Rodrigo B.P
i said that the company is shit, not the game, learn to read and interpret text before leaving comment.
Dr Dragooon The current EA is ran terribly. Thats why people feel that way.
Honestly it's not like you can find these games on official stores anymore. If anything, you may find them in game stores but the money won't go to EA, more likely it'll go to whoever first bought them. It's kinda sad to think the oldest NFS game on Steam is Undercover, from 2008. And again, I see no point in even trying to get those games "officially" if their online modes no longer work unless you use something like Hamachi/Gameranger etc and some of those won't work on modern systems without patches, and you can mod those games to every aspect. The NFS community won't cease to grow even now, with the releases of the toolkit which will allow porting tracks and ADDING cars instead of replacing them, just like in classic NFS games. And to finish this, I am not pro-piracy. I'd buy these games if they were available, and honestly EA is losing heaps of money by not selling these games anymore anywhere.
bootleg? 😍 even cooler
Hi Clint! My all time favorite adventure game is Space Quest 4: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers (CD version ofcourse, Gary Owens' narration, may the good man RIP, is so hilarious). Would be so cool if you could do a LGR plays or review video sometime. Greetings from The Netherlands! PS: NFS III HP is the still the best!
used to see do many of these in dodgy shops, i still have a few jewel cases similar to these.
They jam pack like 100 or 200 games onto a few DVDs with ridiculous compression, like zip in rar in a 7zip etc.
The worst part is that all the games are labeled in random chinese names like (racing car game 1 2 3)
oh and there are so many movie collections like this in China and HK
Like every studio gibli movie pack
every alfred hitchcock
Friends Complete etc.
I would have loved to see if High Stakes worked.
It was/is my absolute fav NFS along Most Wanted.
11:09 wonder why I'm watching this in 4k...
6:26 Worth noting that one of the other benefits about virtual CD roms programs like Daemontools above and beyond it allowing you to play the game without the original CD, is that it can also preserve CD Audio tracks in games that used them before MP3 playback really became a thing.
For those of you too young to remember MP3 playback only really became a thing in the early to late nineties as CPU power increased greatly and as a result many early DOS and even Windows 95, and consoles of that era like the PS1 and Saturn often used redbook CD audio tracks spooled off the CD, and this can often be lost on newer systems because they rely on delivering CD audio directly via that little cable that runs from the CD-ROM drive to the sound card.
While 978-7-89499 is a valid publisher prefix for Beijing Rongbao Electronic Publishing Co,Ltd, the ISBN 978-7-89499-386-3 has an invalid check digit. It should be 978-7-89499-386-1.
The actual barcode is unchanged, so it comes back as 978-7-89499-581-0 which matches the NFS: Carbon box. Interesting.
Honestly I was expecting something from warez groups like MYTH or Class. But I'm little surprised.
You will be really surprised, LGR, but just you guess - we in russia had such a thingy sold, also bootlegged. The version we've got was cut significantly, coming only on 2 double sided dvds. However, I still have this bootleg, because the dvd sleeve looks cool!
And yeah, no manual or bigbox)
MonsterHunterLancer Most of the bootlegs are locally made. At least it claims to be like that. As I know, famicom bootleg cartridges are made in China, but the label says that their origin is russia.
do russian bootlegs suck as much as russia does?
C nah, it's pretty decent. And yeah, it's not very polite to mock other countries, you know.
"C"
Russian bootlegs doesn't "suck as much as Russia does". But they suck as much as america.
this reminds me of a guy here in Mexico City who sells bootlegged DVD box sets of tv shows and movie franchises out of a parking lot, but they are so well crafted they almost look official, and in some cases (especially with old and rare tv shows) they look very enticing!
I hope you'll do a follow-up for the rest of the games and the other discs. I wonder if they screwed around with any other of the games.
LGR is the only one who could do a video like this and not have EA try and screw him somehow because he owns all these games probably a few times over 😂
Oh yeah, darn Nintendo, having all of those SMW and SM64 and LoZ hacks removed! Darn!
That was a lot of games on the first disc... what's on the rest?
All the other games :P
This should be an ongoing series, Regional Game Differences ^.^ I'd love an episode about "SimPeople"
Could you do another video trying every game onwards too xD? I am curious about what they did to Black Box era games(Underground - Undercover)
Dat NFS World box art
I would be really interested in seeing what the other games are like. They can't all be decent can they?
All of them I tried worked just fine, surprisingly!
Now that is a surprise! Of course purchasing the set is somewhat unethical but I bet it made some children from struggling families very happy!
Not surprising that the older games were configured for very low/potato settings. If you've had a chance to see anyone shopping for computer parts in China, you'll see that they still sell *new* LGA 775 motherboards, just as an example. It's also why there are specialty versions of familiar models over there with odd-ball configurations, like a GTX 1060 with 5GB of VRAM... a model that was actually meant to be sold to Chinese OEM's for deployment in internet cafe's hosting gaming PC's, because that is a thing that is more popular there.
The Lamborghini decal being off center on the package tweaked me in ways I didn't know I could get tweaked
wow i remember playing nfs world
MrPegasek is that still a thing? I haven't played nfsw in ages
the original?... no but you can still play the revived game
unfortunately the original is dead u can play the offline game but is not that fun as online
actually some people do make it online... it has more than 5 servers now
just a bit buggy and laggy
@@MrPegasek there are online dan servers check out soapbox race world
As a Chinese, I need to say, that is the recollection of my youth.
You _should_ do some stuff on bootleg games! Those are fascinating! Compilations, plain bootleg releases and "fancy" big box or even metal box releases, from China, Russia, Poland, etc... There is a ton of interesting weirdness to explore!
This reminds me of how I got Ghost In The Shell SAC on DVD back when. The first season set seemed alright but the second season was definitely a Chinese bootleg copy.
Even still had the TV broadcast watermark in the bottom corner.
I dare LGR to install every one of these NFS games on his daily PC with firewall and anti-Virus disabled; then a week later run virus / malware scan.
China never stops surprising us. This time it was pleasant.
>License plate is BIGGUY
>Configured "for you"
I'm onto your game
I keep forgetting you used to live in the Caribbean. I'd love to get like a video thing of what kinds of bootlegs you used to find down there, could be interesting!
Why did you live in the Caribbean? Were you a pirate?
Got it
Bootlegging is bad, mkay? :D
Yes, Mr. Mackey!
Good thing the video is in 4K. Can really see the grit of DOS games
I recently made custom installers for the first four NFS games to make them easier to play without handling CDs. I found some excellent patches and even new executables to make the games play well on Windows 10. If there is an old game worth playing, someone somewhere will make it work.
Actually, the game you bought may still be an official Chinese release (despite the discrepancies found). Some Chinese companies are known to purchase licenses in bulk and then slap generic packaging together to save on costs. Some companies also have been known to sell pirated versions of a game and/or movie despite having the legal rights to sell the product(s) to consumers. It sounds crazy, I know - but the Chinese are strange people.I have in-laws who grew up in China (they also visit their homeland at least once every year), and they said most Chinese video game distributors are not only lazy, but they’ll cut as many corners as possible to save money. Those are their words, not mine.
MMMM Bootlegz!
The only problem I ever had with NfS2:SE under XP was getting it to run smoothly on my dual-core system. It installed fine, everything seemed to work as it should, but when you started playing, the game slowed to a crawl anytime you got near the other cars. It took a lot of experimenting with the Application Compatibility Toolkit to find a set of parameters that would make it run properly. Most of the settings listed on the net didn't work. I finally one set that did.
Hey LGR. I for one would like to hear more about your time spent living in the Caribbean.
Part two.
Try the other games
In that booklet, it's mainly game introductions (from wikipedia) and a couple of game have some gameplay tips.
I totally enjoyed this video.
This bootlegs omg lol
Man, I knew china was weird but this is just above and beyond lol.

As teen buying pirated copies of games in Poland i could get translated versions of certain games.
Games which were never officially translated.
Instead of, pirates would translate and voice stuff themselves. Sometimes they were from Eastern countries like Ukraine or Russia giving everything a funny accent.
Good times.
WHAT!? I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE!!
dreed100 In China there is many community translation team who translate game into Chinese, works for both Steam and pirated games
dreed100 It is also like this with bootleg gta san andreas PS2 games in Lebanon (middle east), they do versions of the game based on local shows and add arabic voice overs
Really nice package :D all games works properly, think the same will work with newer ones :D
How do you skip Most Wanted!?! That was my favorite racing game!
Also, nice to see Daemon Tools. Love those programs.
How many virii and root kits were installed when you installed the games...
You got balls, my friend. I'd never install a chinese bootleg _anything_...
Did you hear the part where he installed it on a non internet connected XP box that had about nothing else on it?
You don't need to be connected to the internet to get rooted so deep you'll need to reinstall. It all comes on CD! (Especially considering they can now back-engineer Win7 patches to find holes in XP.)
Of course, considering much of the content of this channel, Clint may get off on continually reinstalling OS's...
He can also probably tell if a program has a virus in it just by looking at it
i think he said it's a VM. he can just delete the emulated storage if it gets a virus and replace it with a backup.
