Something that i really like about this show is that Ichikawa is not stupid, he just lacks confidence so that's why he doesn't get the hints, because he actually believes he is just a weirdo who has no chances with her until this point of the series.
When he says "this train of thought is bad, stop giving yourself hope" explains it

@@anlomedmedagree. this episode had me worried once the mash up comes since this is a deep one and just like what i thought the reactors will antagonize with his feelings despite the fact that he has social anxiety. I hate this episode not because of ichikawa but because it's easily misunderstood

Not only that Ichikawa also have insane restrain towards something, aside confident, he basically won't make people in trouble just because they help him.

I agree, there are others that do not play the sound of the episode and it feels strange... I understand that it is because of copyright, but there are channels that use it without any problem.
I swear that hug scene in this episode was the most heartwarming scene in a Rom-Com anime I've ever seen.
Why this series is not cliche?? Because Ichikawa if fore real has an issue of insecurity of himself, he thinks he isn't worth for such a girl like yamada, when actually he is just overthinking, BUT he is trying to be Confidence and overcome his fear.
Which is why this is one of the best romance series with a good character development.
Ichikawa has no romance experience but he learn how to treat a girl
