As apart of the RFS, it is important to get the message out there that there are not enough fire trucks for every house!! Put fire plans into action early!!

I lived through this and watched my neighbours houses go up in flames and fought tooth and nail to save my own property and those around me that could be saved. The heartache, devastation and raw emotion I experienced on this day comes back instantly when I watch this video. Many lives were changed forever and for most, life will never be the same. I feel sorry for all the emergency personnel that fought vigilantly and tirelessly against a catastrophy they had no way of winning and the odds were never in their favour.
I truly hope nobody has to live through another major catastrophy like this as it will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

As many others in this chat, I had to go through this too. It was a very scary day, I was waiting with my mum, relentlessly waiting for my siblings to be safe. Three of them went to Thomies. Rosato was a hero and took them down to Coles, saving their lives. But my oldest sister was trapped in Columba’s. My mum tried to run up the driveway to get her from school but was stopped by the police. Luckily, my home was safe and nobody that I know was hurt. But many others lost their homes and even died. A horrific day

October the 17th was not a hot day. I was watching Yellow Rock from Mt Riverview. The Thursday before, October 10, was a hot day with the temperature around 35c. Wednesday, October the 23rd, was expected to be a disaster with all schools across the mountains closed and many people left. It was like a ghost town. Fortunately, nothing happened.

Take a look at the wind speed as that helicopter lowers the bucket that's no easy trick, one gust of wind and you are into the trees.
