    I'm glad that Adora/She-ra has this informative video to show her origins, her relation with her twin brother Adam/He-man, and her history in television and comics. I personally like the Netflix She-ra and the princesses of power series. My personal nitpick is that Adora has not been reunited with her brother Adam since the original She-ra series due to rights issues. Not to mention that He-man technically has more shows than She-ra. Even the use of Despara is a way to use Adora without using or even mentioning the Adora/She-ra character which is teased in the masters of the universe revolution series, and was even planned to be used in the 2021 cgi He-man and the masters of the universe series if the series continued with another season past its third season. I really hope that the time is coming soon for He-man and She-ra to be reunited on screen as a family.

    I think they have a lot of cojones to show those 2 scenes if they haven't secured the rights for Adora/She-Ra.

  • @chomper720
    @chomper720 7 місяців тому +9

    Despara is a legal loophole most likely, we even know the comics did not even point at Adora as a possability of the 9 candidates so if they are not able to get a deal they can just keep the name Despara. If they do get some form of agreement Adora is a possability, furhter more if DreamWorks are fully willing to give them She-Ra for 1 season in exchange for $ then hopefully we get She-Ra to.

    • @gibranlewis7300
      @gibranlewis7300 7 місяців тому +1

      Mattel et al would be insane to tease Adora and then have Despara be anyone else. I'm also not sure the Adam in that set of 9 isn't actually a young Adora without make up. They are twins. Mattel doesn't need rights from Dreamworks to have Despara be Adam's twin sister, they MAY need a specific rights deal to call her Adora/She-ra ( though even this is speculative, since the actual details on who owns what are HIGHLY convoluted: Mattel owns the character She-ra but not her film and TV rights ). But I think there is a more practical reason for Dreamworks to give Mattel a lot of leeway in using She-ra, and that, simply put, is that NBCU/Dreamorks would GREATLY benefit from being able to use He-Man, Grayskul, the sorceress and Skeletor in any furture She-ra reboots they want to make, like the seemingly stalled live action they had planned with Amazon. If another season of Revolution does really well the way this one has or better, and She-ra is a starring figure in it, it will be much easier for NBCU/Dreamworks to convince Amazon to go big with a live action She-ra show, especially if Mattel will agree to let Randor, Marlena, Eternia, Grayskull and of course He-Man himself have significant guest roles in it.

    I always thought in the Netflix series it would have been cool if in the Madame Razz episode we had a touching and teasing moment seeing Razz have a stable moment and asks Adora if she would like to meet her twin brother, but all we would get to see is HE-MAN's silhouette in battle turning around about to reach to the portal to Adora as she's reaching but she gets pulled back by Razz as she tells Adora they need to go right now as HORDE soldiers attack them, as Adora leaves we see a single tear run down Adora's cheek.

    I liked the origin story of She-Ra but the cartoon was way too feminine for me to continue watching. I could have sworn there was an episode with an additional crossover on He-Mans side, but this was a lifetime ago. The 80s was a magical time to be a kid because Gen X got to experience a renaissance of sorts in animation. There are so many other shows during the 80s that could use a revival right now. I am looking at you Inhumans, and you Visionaries and last but certainly not least you Silverhawks. Thanks for catching me up on the new He-Man series. I will have to check it out this season to see if his sister makes an appearance.

    I love 1980's, we used to watch He-Man then followed by She-Ra every Saturday morning. Oddly enough, I never noticed She-Ra with the magic powers has 2 distinct horns in the headpiece they wear. I never really enjoyed the character then, but it has occultish interest now, I especially love the fact these cartoons are literally drawn.

    the voice actress at the end putting Hordak into a healing tank to heal raises soo many questions.
    Is the He man and She Ra film Cannon? If so, how did Hordak recapture and brainwash her? Is she brainwashed? Has she joined the Hoard willingly? Hordak was in another reality in the film so was that a alternate She-Ra? Is this one his real twin sister? Are they still twins? Was she cut off from The Power when the sorceress died in Season 1? If Hordak is anti magic, why is he employing She-Ra? In the unicorn still around?
    Kevin Smith: I dunno, i never watched He-Man, i thought it was gay until Netflix gave me a fuck ton of money

    Very thorough and stellar video. Impressive work. The motu: revolution team has done the greatest MOTU, POP, and/or MOTUPOP related thing in animation ( MOTU Classics toys/minicomics and the DC/Mattel comics collaborations have been doing it right since about 2010 ) in over 35 years since the last Filmation MOTUPOP episodes wrapped up on the She-ra side of the fable/franchise in 1987: they have reunified the twins, who never should have been separated, they have restored the single greatest He-Man family drama of the original MOTUPOP era, including the dark fairytale worthy abduction of the infant Princess Adora from her twin brother Prince Adam's side by the evil warlock/warlord/bogeyman Hordak. The recreation in revoltuions episode 3 of the classic He-Man & She-ra: The Secret of The Sword movie scene of Hordak abducting Adora from her and Adam's shared nursery was FLAWLESS!! They made it keep all the main points, but also made it much more visually stunning and much darker ( the shift from day to night was genius for such a straight-out-of a child's [ and any parents' ] nightmare scene ), even including such details as the unicorn plush by Adora's overturned crib and the green tiger plushy beside Adam's. Even if they didn't get the She-ra rights and have to use the alias character name of Despara, everybody still knows who she is, and the worst of the separation damage is still healed, HOWEVER, because Mattel has FAR more rights and claims to She-ra, Catra, Frosta etc ( all of whom Mattel co-created and all of whom had original era Mattel toys and minicomic inclusion ) than they do to Horde Prime ( or even the Horde troopers ) who was TOTALLY a Filmation creation ( Horde Prime had NO original era toy and NO minicomic appearances, and the horde troopers didn't get toys and minicomics until over a year AFTER Filmation introduced them in the He-Man & She-ra: The Secret of The Sword movie ), the fact that "Despara" mentions Horde Prime at all strongly suggests that some agreement has been reached over the convoluted rights between the parent companies.

    I grew up around that time I used to watch he-man and she-ra, she-ra wasn't woke, it showed a strong independent woman that cared about her people, herself, she wasn't no boss chick, those was the golden days when you can watch a cartoon and not being brainwashed to hate man and women 😢

    The only part I am trying to understand, is the idea that He-Man Revelation and Revolution or a direct continuation in the 1980's version, then isn't She-Ra technically already established and the whole royal family is aware (by now) that she is on Etheria battling the horde? In that case, how will they retcon that idea, that she was She-Ra and then became evil again in the guise Despara?

    I see one major problem with the new He-man series is its a continuation of the 80's cartoon, so If that is She-Ra then se would already know she is She-ra and would know her own brother. or will they pull a weak plot of she forgot her being She-ra and her family??? Like i said last year, " If this is Kevin Smith's love letter to the Fans. then I don't need his sick twisted view of love, and i worry he abused his daughter".

    Hey, I wasn't aware that there was comic that told a dark version of what happened to Adora after she was abducted. She-Ra was not only He-Man's twin sister she displayed powers he doesn't have she can communicate with animals, turn her sword into different weapons at her command, she can heal any wounds. She's not only beautiful but she's kind, warm, loving, caring, strong, intelligent, soft spoken, fierce, firey, sassy she's pretty much like Mother Earth only more badass. I would say she's the original Xena Warrior Princess with blond hair considering that as a Adora she started out as an evil person but she was under a spell, was trained to protect herself, when she learns who she is Adora changes & fights for the side of good. Adora on the other hand was ruthless, cunning, not trusting anyone but herself & her horse but after breaking Shadoweavers's spell she becomes, warm, kind & caring while using her skills as former force captain to help aid the rebels against the Horde. She-Ra is Xena/Wonder Woman while Adam is Clark Kent & his alter ego He-Man is Superman. ADora like Xena has her beloved steed Spirit talks who transforms into the winged unicorn Swiftwind now how often is it that we get a winged unicorn on a show? Very rarely we get either just a horse or a winged horse but never a winged unicorn now that's cool.

    Regardless of the details, the "talking points" and all the opinions out there, the fact is that a female main character, or even secondary protagonist in the superhero, fantasy and sci fi genre, live action or animated, has been made "controversial" again. That's an obstacle to overcome to get an installment about Adora, She Ra, or even just Despara ever made, again.
    That's the end result of all the internet backlash against females on screen.
    I would say its probably as difficult or even harder to get a show made with a prominent female character now then it was in the 1950's and 1960's.
    No matter what they do with this character, it will get internet backlash. That's just the only rational conclusion I can draw, based on what's already happened in this franchise, and across the entire genre with other franchises.
    It doesn't matter what the "reasons" are, whether they were reasons or excuses. The result is the same.
    Even the female characters that were once popular with both male and female audiences get endless backlash of a very negative and ugly nature with every new installment. That makes getting anything new made more difficult.
    I would love to see a 3rd installment after Revolution about Despara. But I fear that the only way it will happen is if they water the character down, make her a chipper She Ra who is "boy crazy" and needs to be rescued all the time, or a depressed and self sacrificing She Ra who steps aside and gives the spotlight to the nearest male character.
    And that's just not a character that's going to impress anybody. But anything they do with this character to present her as even a little interesting is going to get backlash.
    The internet isn't happy with any female in a prominent role unless she's bland, one dimensional, overtly sexualized in specifically a demeaning way, or infantalized or is more of an object, a prize than an actual character.
    That's just what we are back to. Its popular to hate female characters. Regardless of the reasons given. The end result is the same. Its popular to trash female characters online. And I'm just not a fan of that, nor ever will be.
    So as much as I really, really want to see something new with She Ra, I am dreading it just as much.
    And I am the rare person who really loved both Filmation AND DreamWorks She Ra, each exactly as it was. And the Despara storyline in The Eternity War, too!
    I hated the backlash against 2018 She Ra. I hated the resentment toward the OG She Ra back in the 80s. But the backlash a new She Ra is going to get, no matter WHAT they do with her character, its going to be all kinds of ugly, the way this terrible trend is going.
    I think that will happen, no matter how much they water the character down to keep the internet trolls off their back.

      Yes, making She-Ra gay worked. Her being straight is lame. Teela and Adora are a better then the sexist Adam.
