Have you noticed the elemental theme to his releases? Sunday Morning is air, breezy and lighthearted. Surreal is earthy, like even when his imagination is taking him places in his mind, he is still grounded somehow. Kaibigan is water representing overwhelming emotions. This MV ended with a bonfire so I assume the next song will be fire themed. Justin has such a beautiful imaginative mind.

Kaibigan & Surreal are both masterpieces created by the multi- talented Justin, w/ the assistance & support of his team. Bravo!!
Justin had mentioned when Surreal came out that he would be releasing a trilogy this year. Altho Surreal (a figment of the main character's imagination as his way of coping with his heartbreak) was released first, Kaibigan (about unrequited love) was actually a prequel to Surreal. Song #3 is yet untitled, & I can hardly wait for its release.

I did not see that this was a trilogy, and now knowing, from you, what Surreal means, actually makes Surreal so much sadder! I loved Surreal for its seemingly overwhelming positivity, but now that I know it's a coping mechanism. OH I'M SCARED FOR SONG 3, mele! I'M SCARED! (excited too)
No worries, Kenneth. Kaibigan's ending scene showed the guy's decision to move on as he was burning the things that would remind him of his unrequited love. In Surreal, he chose to imagine the good or happy side of his relationship with his friend. Its ending scene showed he was healing from the pain (Band-Aids on his arm & leg); the mv teaser scenes showed bandaged feet, band-aid on his cheek. I'm hoping & expecting his next song to be positive & cheerful, with a happy ending. 😊

I was on the verge of crying, I definitely felt this song, and the emotions conveyed both through the music, Justin's vocal performance, and the music video and its cinematography. It's funny, I was just listening to the song, and it was getting to the last part of the song, and again I was on the verge of crying. Like I can feel the first tears welling up. I love that Justin is able to bring that emotion from me (and so many others, of course). It's a sign of true artistry,!
Thank you for supporting Justin. For me, I couldn't watch "Surreal" the same way as I watched it for the first time. The atmosphere of the song changed after watching his "Kaibigan" MV.
Mele in the comments mentioned that the song was a sequel to kaibigan and now it's heartbreaking thinking it's a defense/coping mechanism because of the events of kaibigan. I've been da-da-da-dee-da-ING all this time, not knowing this! Apparently there's a third song, making this a trilogy? I'm scared we're going to get even more emotional. I didn't cry this time, but only just -- I was holding firm haha!
Yes, it's a trilogy song. This will be the 1st part then the next song will be the 2nd part and the surreal is the last 😭

If one says it as Ka-i (long e sound)- b (as in Bee)- gan (like gun, the weapon), the word translates to “friend”.

From the hints Justin had been giving (that I had my Filipino friend translate for me), and the way the MV started, I thought Nicole's character was going to be hoping that she and Justin could be together, and then it changed. AND THEN THE CRIES AND BREAKDOWN FROM JUSTIN. I felt SO bad! Especially because then you see the rest of the MV in that light, and realise he was just seeing almost what he wanted to see

I just realized that the girl seemed to be clingy to Justin in their trip, maybe she was the one who planned for it, and that she wanted to seized the moments with him maybe because she was uncertain if after her confession, their friendship will never be as close as they were.. Justin though, read it more than it should be..
How creative can he get though? If this is a trilogy, then what other surprises did he store for us?

That's why I was really taken aback. I got what the song was about from what Justin had said/shown, but the way it was being told, it felt like she was the one hoping to be in the relationship with Justin -- and so that's why it felt like such a plot twist. Looking at it now, I can definitely see your vision with this: she wanted to make sure that despite their relationship going no further than friends, that by saying that it wouldn't go any further, she wouldn't lose him to the heartbreak. But unfortunately, Justin's character did take it like you said: he read into it, and thus his disappointment was even more heart-breaking than it would have been otherwise.
Oh he is SO creative, Aries! I didn't know this was a trilogy going into this, though I was aware of the link with Surreal through the album artwork text. I am scared! He's made us happy, he's made us cry -- I don't know what is next. I'M SCARED!

@@kennethiain yes, it was so interesting.. if you've watched the trailer before these releases, it was just like a passing thing. But now that i get a glimpse of Justin's mind, i began to look closely to the narration and he mentioned 3 things: Memories, Promises and Life..
Some says Surreal is the aftermath of Kaibigan, like after he was heart broken, he began to imagine a world to his liking.. but maybe it's the other way around? Maybe he began imagining a world and believed in it, that it was one of the reason he was so heartbroken in Kaibigan.
Also, Kaibigan is a wordplay..
The term in simply means "Friend", but a change in the stress (Ka-ibigan) means "A lover" ... ☺️

I think I watched the teaser on TikTok? But I don't remember it being in English. I know he posted some TikToks/Shorts, which had Tagalog texts in them, and I asked my Filipino friend to translate them -- which she did. But I will be honest, I don't remember the teasers very well, because I was trying this time to try and keep away from spoilers, if that makes sense?

If you look deep into it, the last scene of Justin's break down is very strong. Remember he is left alone and the two rode his car...Maybe something bad happened to his friends to make him react that way...in connection to Surreal where he wants to live in his imagination, with his imaginary friends he is also alone there reminiscing... It is very strong indeed I don't think something bad necessarily happened to his friends, unless you have information I don't. I think that scene of Justin's breakdown is his realisation that all that he thought about his friend was all in his head, and meaningless, in the end, because she was forming a relationship with the other friend. Again if you have information I don't have, I'd love to read/see it etc! But yes! I also can't wait for Justin's third release! Thank you for watching!
