Class of 66 😊 I was 17 when this masterpiece came out, this is timeless music, today at 58 I still find myself here listening to this wonderful song, 80 forever ❤️
Both 1970s and 1980s are the best decades for music, the best era of music, and are also real music, compared to some most songs we have nowadays since the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Also, the 1990s, 2000s, and early 2010s (before 2012) were the best in terms of video games, although don't get me wrong, there are recent games that interest me, but anyways, as mentioned above, nothing will ever beat music from the 1970s and 1980s as those are the best era of music and are also real music, compared to some most songs we have nowadays since the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s.
I guess everybody has their decade, but growing up in the 70s was like magic.Being amazed by those 5 young brothers with afros from Gary Indiana, Every time Muhammad Ali fought you felt he was fighting for us, All in the family, good times, the partridge family, Sanford and son. The godfather, the taking of Pelham 123, godfather part 2, jaws, Shaft, Foxy Brown, Disco, The birth of hip-hop. If there were ever a time where America was great for black people, it was during the 70s🤔
My dad use to play this in his van back when I was 6 or 7 yrs old been trying found out what song was that I found it brings back memories of my old man rest in peace
I was every bit of 18 , a young US Marine stationed in Okinawa when this song came out. Happy memories indeed. To my Japanese friends and fellow Marines, I salute you. ♥️😎
funny how a song takes you right back to a certain time and place... for me it's the roller rink, first kiss, and dancing in my bedroom. ahh the memories! ت 💖
I think this song was a part of many people's first kiss, first sweetheart. Such a classic song that will always be loved for the memories and the experience of life back then!
No doubt. Especially in the early teen years... It came out when I was abt 10 or 11 y/o but was still going strong in '86/'87 when I was 12 and 13... and still kept going on through the years
I fell in love with this song when I was about eight years old. That is almost four decades ago. The passion still burns very brightly. I'VE BEEN SO BLESSED...
I was 21 when this song was released and it still delights me, even now! The 80‘s are gone and all that’s left are the awesome memories! My daughter is called Shannon too and because I‘ve no contact to her, she‘s gone as well! All that’s left are the awesome memories! But having said that, memories are something that nobody can take away from you!😎
I remember break dancing to this in the 80s! Playing this for my daughter's......they don't understand the music! Awesome song! Shannon......let the music play
*From the Great Music Renaissance of the 1980s. When the walls were shaking inside all the clubs and the floors were filled with Beautifully Dressed women. Great Music and Great Time growing up in America.*
This is one of the most timeless songs I have ever heard. Totally underrated among my generation that wasn't alive in the 80s! Name another song that sounds like it could have been released in 1983, 1993, 2011, and 2021.
Saw her live in a club in Montreal in the 90's...it was always one of my fav's and i was dancing up a storm in front of Shannon and me and my buddy met and hung out with her after the show..
One of the greatest cross cultural, multidimensional songs ever. Freestyle, breakbeat, house, and electro. She brought the funk, glamour, and street culture in one monumental stroke. Seriously one of the greatest dance songs ever. It never gets old or played out.
Listening & travelling back in time to our youth, foot loose, fancy free, hanging with our friends, passage of time will never dull. Forever in our hearts, rock on brothers & sister's. Big shout out from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
This song, originally titled "Fire and Ice" and which proved to be the nascence of the 'Shannon sound', is technically quite fascinating on a number of levels. Not only did it help resuscitate and revive the dance genre after the cultural blow-back against disco but the innovative and creative use of electronic synthesizers and drum machines (rim shot) was revolutionary. The song was written by Chris Barbosa (what a mind!) and produced with his partner Mark Liggett but all the instruments were played by Bob Kilgore. Jazz vocalist Shannon provided the understated, complimentary but silky smooth vocals. An incredible tack that, when it came out, I completely underappreciated (though I did dig the earth-shaking chorus), and is likely among the top ten dance tracks of any age. Sublime.
I didn't really like it when it was released but i have to say that it was ahead of it's time, it sounds like house music. Actually i much prefer Stronger Together (1985)
One of the coolest tracks ever! They just to write 'em like this anymore! Perfection! I'm so very fortunate to have been born in 1957 and lived through all that great music as it happened!
This video was shot in 1983 at the Off-Broadway Entermedia Theatre, 12th St & 2nd Av in NYC. It was a short one day shoot on the cheap, I was the lighting designer. But really, lights were already set for a musical show currently running on that stage, so all I did was turn the board on and bring lights up. :) Shannon was a super nice person, no star attitude. The show running was a musical about aging called Taking My Turn and included Tiger Haynes (original Tin Man in The Wiz) and Cissy Houston (Whitney's Mom.) Whitney was at the theatre many times over the nine months the show ran, but not on the day of this shoot. Also, the same theatre The Talking Heads shot their music concert in '78. Wilson Pickett performed his "comeback concert" there in '80. The theatre is now the Village East Cinema, a 7-plex.
This song is from 1983 and it will never be considered "old". This song holds up through all of the decades and will continue to do so.

@@generalinformation3507 Very true that everybody has their decade. I was born in 1994 and I'm proud of it! 🎮🕹👾🤘🤟✌😌😎👍🤙💯

Bob Murphy Yes! Totally... and our generation was awesome back then! I really cherish these memories... Thanks, take care
I think this song was a part of many people's first kiss, first sweetheart. Such a classic song that will always be loved for the memories and the experience of life back then!
No doubt. Especially in the early teen years... It came out when I was abt 10 or 11 y/o but was still going strong in '86/'87 when I was 12 and 13... and still kept going on through the years
+darcy mimetz lucky guy that was your first kiss.

Reminds me of summer in the Bronx. This song was always blaring on boom boxes and out of apartment windows. Great song for break dancin!
That sound is still so rich and full almost 40 years later! Timeless.
What about, "Give Me Tonight?"
"Give Me One Night."

I was ten years old and this song rocked my world (and my boombox). It was a treasure anytime it came on the radio.
One of the best songs of the 80's and still grooving.

This is one of the most timeless songs I have ever heard. Totally underrated among my generation that wasn't alive in the 80s! Name another song that sounds like it could have been released in 1983, 1993, 2011, and 2021.
OMG! This song NEVER GETS OLD! Such a CLASSIC! EVERYONE on the planet needs to LISTEN to this song right NOW!
Being a teen in the 80's seems awesome

One of the greatest cross cultural, multidimensional songs ever. Freestyle, breakbeat, house, and electro. She brought the funk, glamour, and street culture in one monumental stroke. Seriously one of the greatest dance songs ever. It never gets old or played out.
80s was pumping out some outstanding tumes like this. So glad i was part of this. 🙏
Damn we used to groove on the dance floor to this jam. TIMELESS!
Come on, people! Give this comment some love 💥💥💥
That is really interesting information.
Good take. It was indeed ahead. Many early 90s dance track owe to this sound
Thanks Frank. I always enjoy learning about music history.
Thanks for sharing! Always cool to hear some behind the scenes stuff!
Awesome stuff man
Awesome story.
What did you think of this song at the time?
