Beautiful job! Thank you so much for including your "mistakes" in the video and not editing them out! Not only does that help us learn but it gives a more realistic expectation of how the sewing process really goes! I mean seriously, how many sewing projects DON'T need a seem ripper at least once? ;)
I have so many patterns for clothes & the fabric for that particular pattern & they're just sitting there because it's so intimidating. I like the way it looks without the buttons on the front!
I loved this! You are very encouraging and your energy is amazing. Don’t worry about showing oopsies. You’re keeping it real and it’s very refreshing to see. I don’t think any less of you, actually more ❤️ You are just lovely. Very cute shacket and outfit.
Diana.... you’re totally Awesome!!!! Making mistakes is how we learn ;) if you’re not confident enough to add buttons you can always use snaps for the cuffs and the front of the shacket... if you wanted to make it a warmer shacket you can always line it with fleece (as fleece isn’t all that stretchy it should be okay) and of course depending on how thick your lining is you can always make it a larger size so you can layer up underneath it...there’s so many options for this (as with all of E&M patterns), say if you wanted it a bit longer then you can add more to the bottom of the shacket. Keep up the Amazing work and tutorials Diana,as always I really look forward to seeing your new tutorials. Cheers from Australia. ;)
Just discovered you- amazing- thank you.. refreshing to watch someone so relaxed and learn techniques to make life easier. I tend to rush things a little so really chuffed to find a tutorial, in this style
Thank you so much for being so transparent and let us see you doing the good and bad when you arr putting thegarment together. Love your tutorials so much as I use them for sewing up the patterns. ☺️
Brilliant!! I’m imagining lining this with teddy bear fleece!! Thank you for your honesty & encouragement when sewing and pattern mashing, it makes me I can do this too and feel less ‘naughty’ for adapting patterns myself!!
I'm new to sewing clothes but I have been sewing bags for 5 years. I would love to see you hack the artic pullover sweater with a hood. My husband loves hoodies but doesn't like the tight neck. He likes the zipper collar tho.
I heart Deanna!!! Love the shacket! I vote for faux buttons and add pocket flaps to the pockets. Some even have no pockets and just pocket flaps. I think it will make it look more ready made is all I'm sayin'
I DO love it as much as you do! It looks great and I agree with you about the pockets. I think seeing the videos are a huge help to anyone who needs a little encouragement in getting started on a projects, and the mistakes are a bonus to us, like you said. Thanks!
I absolutely love watching your videos.I own loads of your patterns as I am more of a visual learner. I am dyslexic and find it complicating to read and do.. I have never been to a sewing class I am totally self taught and you are my favourite sewing buddy x
Just found your channel and loved your tutorial. I was so inspired by your work I subscribed and signed up for all you offered. Thank you for the free pattern. Great bonus.
Yes! Everyone needs this type of shirt/jacket. Thank you for the free pattern & walking us through it. How do you think this style would look color blocked? Just a thought. Wish my serger sewed as fast as yours! I enjoy using it.
I really enjoy your videos and learn so new every time I watch one. Would it be possible for you to add a link to the clothing you wear ? Sometimes you mention it but sometimes you don’t. I really like the fabric combinations on the shirt you are wearing in this video.
Thank you. I've been anxiously awaiting this. May I ask how much larger you make your pattern when you say you like your clothes a little bigger? I like a roomier fit without it looking sloppy. You always nail your tailoring so perfectly. Roomy but neat. 👍🏻
Clever ideas! Thanks for sharing your project. Mistakes definitely help us learn how to improve our sewing. Plus, it keeps us humble.😉 As far as the pockets, if you didn’t like them, you could always make them from a solid black fabric or even denim salvaged from old jeans. How about snaps on the front instead of buttons for a different look? Your shacket looks fabulous!
Great “Shacket”…didn’t even know it had a name :) my kiddos love the add of the pocket to the front ( I would have to change the pocket) Can’t wait to try the cuff option you are showing!!
Thank you for NOT being perfect - yet producing a good product. If we don't make mistakes, we don't learn! You give me hope because I struggle with perfectionism and so am afraid to even try!
If you don’t want a bias cut pocket & want to match your pocket to the shirt.....place your piece of pocket fabric(larger than required) over the area of where the pocket is to be located on the shirt, and when you lay it down match up the pattern on the fabric to the pattern on the shirt. Now lay your pocket pattern down where you want it to be located on the shirt and pin it in place without pinning the bottom shirt fabric, and then cut out your pocket taking into consideration your seam allowances. TaDa...now your pocket placement matches the exact pattern on the shirt. FYI: I always make the pocket(s) the last thing I do after the shirt has been sewn together.
Diana, what I love about your hack videos is that you are teaching people that they can design garments the way they want them to be and that they don't have to be slaves to the patterns. For details on how big to make a pocket or where to put the little opening on the sleeve, they can judge based on garments they already have. I love that you don't worry about perfection, but just make a garment you can enjoy.

I like how it turned out. Slanting the pattern for pockets made it even cuter, perhaps giving a slimming effect. I’ll copy that mistake. Lol
Wow I love how it looks including the pockets!
Thank you! I am glad you like it!

Enjoyed your tutorial. Just wondering didn't you put the sleeve cuff openings toward the middle instead of toward the side seams?

Love this hack!! Love seeing you make mistakes like me! Haha. Also where did you get your thread holders?
How hard would it be to line this to make it warmed?
Hi, did you do vertical or horizontal button holes? Thanks
I believe I did them vertically.
Where did you get your pattern weights?
Unfortunately, we are unable to recommend the magnetic mat and weights company due to customer service issues.
You sew a lot like I do!
