This video explains all the popular and most effective ways to rig a blue crab. Blue crab is one of the best baits for sheepshead, redfish, black drum, and almost all inshore game fish. In this video I explain how to do it correctly based on the species you are targeting. I also explain what are the most popular rigs for Blue Crab fishing.
The rigs explained in this video:
(Big) Fish Finder Rig - snap swivel, 2 way barrel swivel, 40=50lb test line and a 7-8/o hook. This rig is most effective for big drum. Big bull reds, big slab black drum, maybe tarpon, cobia, and other large game fish.
Bottom Sweeper Jig - if you haven't heard of these and you fish with blue crab you are missing out. Here is the link:

The Bottom Sweeper is most popular for fishing in and around structure whether that's from a pier, land based on a jetty, or from a boat or kayak
(Small) Fish finder rig variation with an egg weight sinker. This rig is the most popular and widely used by charter guides and there's a reason why. It catches fish anywhere.

Using a 24-36in Leader(#1-3/0 Circle Hook) underneath a Popping Cork does really good on Red Drum,Rockfish, and Good size Speckled Trout in the Chesapeake Bay Shallows!
I'll be trying these out here soon. Good to see ya'll steady putting out videos!
Thank you for the wealth of information!!! I most definitely am going blue crab fishing tomorrow. Greatly appreciated!!! 🎣
I agree with you on the bottom sweepers. They work awesome.
Just started back up saltwater fishing found your channel and absolutely love it I have been learning a lot I’m out of Galveston Texas. Keep up the great videos
Thanks for the vid Jeff! Been learning a TON from your channel this past week. Keep em comin. Much appreciated!
Thank you!! Glad you enjoy it!
I'm on the Delaware bay... I surf fish and will try these out thanks👍🏻🎣
That is some great information. I have never fished with crab before. Thanks
You guys make the most versatile fishing videos. We enjoy them because you all cover all aspects weather you have a boat or not
Awesome!! That is what we go for!! We want to make vids for EVERYONE!!
Great video Jeff, Been watching your videos for a while now and got my wife hooked on them too. Had a guy ask me for fish advice at work and I pointed him to your channel because you can go back through all your videos and find almost any topic you have questions about.
Thanks for the info
I have been fishing hampton roads all my life, and never thought to try this. Keep up the videos they are great!
Love the videos. Take me fishing with you!!!!!!
Great info! Thanks.
I am new to saltwater fishing and been learning a lot from watching your channel... I spent a lot of time in the Dam Neck area and now live about two hours from VA Beach and will be heading out there soon... I hear you talk about the Chesapeake first, second, third, or fourth island, can you throw up a google map and show what those look like? Thank you so much for the vids Jeff, please keep them up, you guys are awesome!
Really appreciate your willingness to share info fishing the Chesapeake waters! For someone who grew up next to the ocean but somehow ended up now living in the mountains it sure helps to increase our chances of catching more fish when I get the chance to get back down to the ocean. Regardless, being on the Chesapeake is awesome even if the fish aren't biting. How bout tarpon do you fish for them? Been after them for last several years but still haven't hooked up on one mostly due to not knowing the best places and time to fish for them been relying on my Florida tarpon knowledge but Virginia tarpon anglers don't share much information about this incredible fish and it remains on my bucket list. Also enjoy your cooking part of the vids definitely will give them a taste.
Forgot to ask, how has the flounder bite been this season?
Thanks brother. You help. Me. Ok
I've never heard of the bottom sweeper rig. I'm fishing Galveston area. I call blue crab blue candy. In fact, taking my daughter to the bay tomorrow to try and get her on some bull reds.
Great instructional video! Looking to do some beach fishing at the North End of VB; wouldn't mind fishing with something that would catch something bigger than a spot, croaker, or roundhead...
Thank you...the video was awesome!!
I'm definitely going to be trying this out next time I'm doing some pier or surf fishing!
Awesome!
Caught a 8lb Drum with Hard Crab last week using the fish finder rig.
DON'T PAY for crabs if you can help it! My son was using chicken legs on a string and catching them with a dip net off the bow while we we're fishing off the stern. They're plentiful and simple to catch. Bringing bait from the bow and turning it into Fish off the stern. Great day fishing and didn't spend a dime on bait.
thats awesome!
I think I just saw you guys ride by me!! Rock stars!
Awesome. grabbing some crabs this weekend.
I'm a canoe and kayak fisherman. would love to see more kayak vids.
Sweet we got more coming!!
Love your videos
Never saw the bottom bouncer. Nice, more stuff I will buy, hahaha. A few months ago, I was fishing in Tangier Sound and the trout were only hitting soft crabs, not peelers. Crazy.
Thxs highly informative.
Awesome Video appreciate the Info. How about a video on your Setups you got their from rod reel to line :D
0:15 ... I sure hope you don't get snapped from that dead ass crab ... LoL
Learn to have moocho rubber bands in your tackle box Jeff .. Take 2/3 bands and wrap them around the half 🐚 shell/innards. This will help to maintain your meat and help to create your chumslip
Sorry •• CHUMSLICK
Really good tip to help slow down smaller fish from eating out the crab meat on cut bait.! DG bag rubber bands thinner the better.
Les K T U 👍
I believe the rubber bands are a #19
Planning a trip in September what should I target
what's the best color and size of bottom sweeper jig to use? I want to try them but I don't know which one to try.
Honestly they all work - I like the pink
1Fish2Fish okay thank you!
I didn't catch the size of the jig
Never seen a video done on when it’s time to switch to a fresh piece of crab bait. A lot of the time I’ll reel in my crab bait and notice that meat is missing, should I switch to a new piece then or will a red fish still hit the crab shell?
What size is that bottom sweeper jig??
Love your content!!
Do you ever catch flounder on the 1/4 size blue crab?
What size is that bottom swipper jig?? (Weight/hook size)
Come and fish dixey bar in Mobile bay. Giant drum lots of fun. Blue crab work great!
Just say when! WE want to come that way this fall
@@1fish2fish10 Me and my wife are retired we love to fish and are learning alot from your videos. Would love to take yall fishing, its alot of fun all along the gulf coast. We fish from Mobile to Bay St Louis. We have a boat and some gear.
What reel size and rod specs do you recommend when using whole, half and quarter crab? Is a long length necessary?
20-40 medium action rod or stronger. I prefer a 6000 series reel.
nice bro
could tell me please What is the fishing rod brand in this video?
Hi love your videos. What part of the Chesapeake do you fish MD or VA
Great video! Where do you park to get to that spot? I park at the Lesner Bridge and go out on the boardwalk but the beach can get crowded. Also, what is the weight of the bottom sweeper rig? Thanks
Now that it's too late for the crab, I want to pay respect for it after I take the leg part
You didnt show the crab claw and leg rigging
Why don't you just catch your own crabs? Some of my best childhood memories are of catching crabs off of small docks. All you need is some string, a chicken neck, and a spark plugs for weight. Pull them up to the surface and scoop them up with a dip net.
Crabs need to be alive? I would think they're dead by the time you perform surgery on them. Where on the Bay are you? I'm in Kilmarnock. Any spots you want to reveal?
Definitely A Female 🦀 And She Is Big 💖💖💖
14:59 thank me later👍
Do y'all catch your own blue crab?
Sometimes! These were bought at a local tackle shop
Appendage? OK, Mr Biologist, I bet you got straight A's. I just call them legs and you put the hook through its last knuckle. You will have to tell us about the regs in Virginia, but here in NC the crab has to be of legal size to use it for bait. It is one thing to buy them in the store, but if you are harvesting them - make sure you know the regulations for that area, as they can differ up and down the coast.
Y not just kill it before ripping it apart?bit of dog act keeping crabs alive to just rip them apart no respect
