The main issue with AC sounds is indeed the muting. Engines sound "shy", like the're afraid to scream at the top of their lungs. The samples seem somewhat accurate, but it's like the engine's in an aquarium 200 yards away from the cockpit. You just don't hear it. If you listen closely to onboards of the TS040, take out the saturation of the shit onboard camera mics, you have something that's pretty close in AC, but it's just way too distant for some reason. Bass is muted, and lower pitches make all the grunt in these engines. Basically race cars sound like the cockpit is just as sound proof as on high-end road cars.
Another big reason for the rather synthetic sounds of AC (IMO) is because there is no real flex in the drivetrain modeled so you do not hear all the constant wobbles in the engine note you get when going over bumps and stuff, it is for the most part a constant whine. Even some of the better sounding mods which get the tone and loudness of the engine right suffer in the end due to this. And the distinct lack of ambient noises such as the creaks, squeaks and rattles all add up to a rather lifeless sound signature. R3E is simply brilliant and pretty much untouchable in this regard. That said, AC does have some fantastic sounding cars especially the stuff from the Japanese pack. If the newer cars sounded about as good as those ones I'd be totally fine with it. But this new pack is just disappointing in the sounds department as half the cars seem to be using recycled samples from older cars. Oh well. :|
You probably dont care but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend these days =)
Whilst you demonstrated it's not perfect, this is way better than it was before. Faster cars about to lap would basically lemming train behind the slower cars and cars about to be lapped would not move out the way.
I have yet to see a racing sim where AI does a good job of getting around slower/lapped traffic. In real world they would blow by, or the lapped cars would give way. In the sims the leaders stack up and almost refuse to pass. They eventually make it, but only after wasting many seconds or laps. What do you think?
i tried multy class racing with AI in AMS, with EEC's gt3 and gtlm mod, the p1's get very punt happy trying to pass the GT's, but then again that's pretty realistic :P
Hey jimmy. I don't know if you know but there is a project called Assetto corsa project that allowed you to change these values for almost a year now! Great video
Well that looks like a massive leap in terms of AC AI. They still seem to fumble a bit but when i last tried a multiclass race like this it was a disaster.
Hey Jimmer, I love watching your content as a fellow SIM racer degen, but one thing that is annoying is you don't link to the mods you use, ok this m8ght be on racedepartment but let's say the BTCC toca super tourer races fun you did on Automoblista , again no link and not easy find on RD
Just came here from watching you deal with the human driver klown kar race on your livestream. Given that the best humans can still currently trump the best AC AI but the AI don't drive like trolls and play it mostly straight (with some dumb moves), when and where would you prefer each one over the other?
09:30 - 10:00 never seen AI behaving like that in a game! awesome! like watching the actual WEC from a few years back! (but audi & toyota rather than audi & porsche)
Does "variance" mean variable times throughout the field, or variation in one car from lap to lap? RACE07 has a similar adjustment in the driver settings. When racing AI the lap times from a particular car changed throughout the race, ie it affects their consistency. At some point you could leave them in your dust, only to have them catch back up later.
this is my favourite sounding car ever well the sound is on project cars 1. I used to get little bursts of adrenaline when it was going through the gears- eargasm. Project cars gets the sound right and the graphics are a bit off. Gran Turismo get the graphics right and the sound is just shocking.
So I noticed that each time you passed lap start, the electric boost indicator would jump up to full. Is that how it really happens? I would think that it would only fill through braking. Is there some way of filling it up artificially? I don't know if I like that... promotes using aggressive hybrid use all the time. Thanks for the video!
Aardvark892 The hybrid prototypes are given a certain amount of hybrid that's usable per lap. The yellow bar represents that boost and the green bar is total boost. The green bar regenerates under braking and the yellow bar just shows how much boost is left for the current lap if that makes any sense.
Hi Max, thanks and yes that made sense... kinda. Are you saying that the yellow bar does not represent the actual boost available on the vehicle, but instead represents how much they are allowed to use each lap? Kinda like a timer-ish thingy? LOL.
Peugeot 905 - Example of how variation works.... If A.I is set to 90% with 5% variation the field will have mixed difficulty between 85% - 95% (5% variation either side from the 'standard). So then if you have variation at 1% the field will be set between 89%-91%. At 0% all the A.I will be at 90%.
Ive put 1k hours into ac and just quit because ive put 75 into rf2 and had way more fun as its way more realistic and better for leagues, theres hardly any random public servers but the league racing is fantastic
I just recently got rf2 but I'm having a hell of a time trying to get my FFB to work properly. It feels so much lighter than the other sims I've got. Mr Dog is right, AC seems to be a better out of the box experience, rf2 requires a bit more effort to get feeling right. Thats my experience anyway. If I could get rf2 set up correctly I'd love to spend more time with it.
I have Assetto Corsa and I have tried the demo for Rf2, when I tried the demo (was a while ago) RF2 most certainly drove better. Though I stuck with Assetto Corsa because of the money I already sunk into it but also with the promise that AC would indeed improve. I must say though AC right now might edge out RF2 slightly, AC drives really well now and with the ai fix the ai seems to be really good right now. For both of them you can get mod content which is at no cost, however as far as official content goes I believe AC has way more cars though as far as tracks go I don't know as I can't find the car or track list on the Rfactor 2 website anymore.
Imagine driving the Cayman GT4 at Spielberg, lap 4, and some fucking ai piece of shit just pushes the brakes full through, like 200m before a corner. There is no "good" ai imo
Its painful to see you driving these hogh-tech cars with such a basic steering wheel. Where can I go to contibute to you getting an OSW rim with a ton of buttons? I like your new rig, and I'm glad for you that you got it, but it initally seems like a step back and really ruins videos in cars like this..

Yes, you do not hear the raw engine screaming. Also inside the cockpit normally there is allot more resignation noise. Everything sound so sterile
Another big reason for the rather synthetic sounds of AC (IMO) is because there is no real flex in the drivetrain modeled so you do not hear all the constant wobbles in the engine note you get when going over bumps and stuff, it is for the most part a constant whine. Yea, agreed. Very apparent in cars like the E92 M3.
I like it.. a bit like having ear muffs on
My girlfriend is like Silverstone, has a few kinks and some big curves.
My girlfriend is like Toban - fictional.
Jimmy Broadbent mine's like the Nordschleife in the 60s. Fucking mental.
+Jimmy Broadbent Well, for once I thought I had the best pun in my mind... you had to come in and crash the party.
Quite an interesting hand you got there
@Joshua Ellis this was simple jimmer, not over the top equipment jimmer
I'm a simple man, I see Jimmy playin' AC, I press like
You probably dont care but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all of the new movies on Instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend these days =)
@Grady Timothy Yup, been using InstaFlixxer for since november myself :D
Whilst you demonstrated it's not perfect, this is way better than it was before. Faster cars about to lap would basically lemming train behind the slower cars and cars about to be lapped would not move out the way.
This guy looks good at endurance, maybe he should do the nurburgring 24hrs some day
that would be pretty cool wouldn't it
Such humble SHEDginnings
AI seems acutally not boring now :D
if only AC had night time i'd play it much more often
Download sharders pack + sol = New experience
I like that dutch angle on the footcam.

loved that Murray Walker reference there
Hm, was the aggression on 100?
i tried multy class racing with AI in AMS, with EEC's gt3 and gtlm mod, the p1's get very punt happy trying to pass the GT's, but then again that's pretty realistic :P
I have been so impressed with the AI in this latest update. There's still some issues, but man is it actually fun to race with them now.
AMG at 18.00 be like HAS HE FALLEN ASLEEP AT WHEEL!? WHY DOESNT HE MOVE!?
Awesome race P3 !!!!
perfect riposte with toban jim.
Hey jimmy. I don't know if you know but there is a project called Assetto corsa project that allowed you to change these values for almost a year now! Great video
17:49 "I'm going for first says Broadbent". Yes Jim, you're still third.
.nice vid, nice pedals but why the steering look like a lorry?
if you put aggression up it seems to make them deal easier with slower cars... like a P1 with a gt3
Well that looks like a massive leap in terms of AC AI. They still seem to fumble a bit but when i last tried a multiclass race like this it was a disaster.
You need to mount stress ball on the microphone. RIP stress ball

The Audi inspires confidence, the Toyota inspires fear...
And the Porsche inspires excellence.
I wonder if you could zip-tie a wireless controller to the wheel and use it's buttons? Or maybe a smartphone with a button box app?
09:30 - 10:00 never seen AI behaving like that in a game! awesome! like watching the actual WEC from a few years back! (but audi & toyota rather than audi & porsche)
Jimmy do you have the rally rig set up for dirt which is coming later this year?
I just wonder what AI settings did you use after we had a quick chat yesterday?
+Jimmy Broadbent have you modified the in car visual?
He there Jimmy i got a question. Can we expect F1 2017 and Dirt 4 in future video's or do you got other things coming?
Damn why youtube want me to see young jimmer

Aardvark892
Green bar = Total hybrid charge in the battery
Yellow bar = Available hybrid charge on current lap.
That end song is way too catchy...
nice video as always :)
Why isnt this update still out in NZ?
17:45 lol
How do you do multiclass on ps5?
Could some explain to me the ai variation slide. does 5% equal less variation than 1%- 4%. does 0% equal no variation at all.
Thank you for telling me.
Pls mirror your cam so we can see the wheel turn the same direction as the car
I'm gonna get Rfactor 2 or AC i just cant decide since i read that both of them are great racing games.
AC is way more realistic.
disregard that, i don't know anything about Rfactor 2
Ive put 1k hours into ac and just quit because ive put 75 into rf2 and had way more fun as its way more realistic and better for leagues, theres hardly any random public servers but the league racing is fantastic

any stability control or abs?
And your AI settings were....?
Why are you using a stick to shift and not paddles? Saw you did this for a few videos
Looks like the wheel he's using doesn't have paddles.
His first wheel for the osw doesn't have paddles. :)
do a TS050 granturismo
been watching how you brake, correct me if i am wrong your brakes are a mess !
why do you keep on using a wheel without paddleshifts?
Because it's all I have atm.
a right. nice driving though :p
Imagine driving the Cayman GT4 at Spielberg, lap 4, and some fucking ai piece of shit just pushes the brakes full through, like 200m before a corner. There is no "good" ai imo
Doesnt work a shit! AI simply holds the line and/or is breaking instead of going off line.
Still crap.
GTR 2 - Power and Glory Mod =AI ❤️

Nippon steel is best steel, nippon steel is superior to euro steel.
