SPREAD THE METAL LIKE A PLAGUE!
its amazing how this lad can just go out and create 3 legendary bands
Samhain is so underrated.
The song Ashes is so chilling and I love his boldness to experiment
I loved it. Old school Danzig fan, you just let it grow in ya.
Awesome song
haven’t gotten to Danzig’s discography yet but i still enjoyed this video. i appreciate the effort you put in your videos man, seriously!!
3 is my personal favorite, his vocals are incredible on that album
don't start with this one , actually I'd skip it .
I would recommend it, most of them are really good for the most part.
I'm still making my way through his discography.
@DEATHKLAAT I like 1, 3, Lost Tracks, and Black Laden Crown.
I love this album! I love DANZIG'S earlier albums prior but as a fan of Industrial Metal, it's a great record. It's Dark,Heavy,Catchy and Evil. "Serpentia" is my favorite track off Blackaciddevil, it's Sleazy, Sexy and Sinister.
Hellyeah I agree!!!! And Danzig 666 was kickass too .
Using a drum machine doesn't make this industrial....
@@aegisraven1284who died and made you the Authority on Industrial Music?
Fans hate when a band always do the same thing over and over.
Fans hate when a band doesn't always do the same thing over and over.
I personally like when a band experiments with it's sound.
I agree, and hey, Industrial Danzig wasn`t a total loss. We did get Danzig 666: Satan`s Child and Danzig 777: I Luciferi which were great. They mixed Danzig`s style with Industrial much more naturally.
Mmm yes that's true.
I think the problem often lies in how it is executed. Bands will build a loyal fanbase with a particular sound, and then the band changes directions abruptly on a single album; instead of evolving slowly into their experimentation. Sometimes bands feel the need to evolve without having the necessary inspiration to do so. It's just expected of them at a certain point; even if they don't know what they want. You have about 3-5 years at your peak with a captive audience. Once that audience ages out, good luck finding a new one.
I pretty much like everything musically that Danzig has ever put out. I'm just a huge fan and a rare breed i guess.
Samhain is my favorite thing he’s ever done. A band that’s truly in its own class
I'm with you. Dont think blackacidevil sucked. It was a good release. Was eating acid on the weekends when this came out, I remember this was a good soundtrack.
I own everything he's ever made that I've been able to get my hands on.Even as far as Melissa Auf Der maur album with Father's Grave on it.
Honestly... I would love to hear this album redone without the electronics and restructured down to the basics with clean vocals. See All You Were could be a real banger. Ashes was a clean beautiful closer.
" Black acid devil" is definitely an acquired taste, admittedly took me a few listens to get into it but it's a really good album.
No open really talks about how experimental Danzig has been. From this to punk, to death-rock, even classical (With Black Aria). Although I feel of the time it's hit or miss, I think he manages to hold up some fine moments.
I’m so glad you covered this, I always found the story behind this album so interesting
Think what you will about the album, it makes for a good story! I personally love the Pulse Magazine cartoon of Danzigland
Great video, Blackacidevil is a great album, it grow on me every time I listen to it
love that record
Why?
I really enjoyed this album when it came out. At the time, i was collecting Danzig's Verotik comics and this was the perfect soundtrack to those stories!
Good review!
A day when killbot uploads is a good day
I remember when "sacrifice" played on the radio at the time I thought it was a new NIN song.
Me too!
Always a good day when killbot uploads
Great video mate 👍 really enjoyed it.
Great video my man!!! My friend Matt and I were my only friends that LOVED this record 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Me and my friends DESPISED this record when it came out, but looking back at this, it was a big risk which I respect now that I’m in a band. I still think the album blows btw 😂
Agreed, totally
Your video editing skills are phenomenal, reminds me of VH1's 'Behind The Music', nice job!
Dude!! Thanks for putting some light on this underrated release!! This album is so good...the problem was they started it off with the somewhat annoying first track '7th House' (after that, the album is great mid 90s industrial metal). The bonus track 'Bleedangel' on the reissued version is one of the best Danzig songs ever written (as it is another backwards-based song like 'Can't Speak' on Danzig 4). The song 'Ashes' is quite haunting and has a nice depressive gothic-industrial atmosphere. -Devon
“Ashes” is one of his best songs, definitely. A shame that Cleopatra won’t be putting the bonus tracks on the reissue next month
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack That sucks!! I can only listen to the album with the bonus songs (definitely give 'Bleedangel' a listen if you've never heard it before)...great tribal-drumming overlayed on a seductive S/M industrial beat (that song would have been challenging to mix)...a very powerful and euphoric song!!
Also Tony, I wanted to say great job on the Type O Negative and Filth Pig, Darkside, and Animositisomina era Ministry highlight videos (was genuinely impressed with your research and passion behind those 'Unsung' albums) as they are some of my personal favorites. I started watching your channel after seeing the Type O Negative video...I actually got to meet Peter Steele in 1997 when I was 14 years old and remember that I had to look straight up to talk to him -ha! One the most unique people in the history of metal!! Saw Type O Negative with Celtic Frost in Chicago 2007 (will never forget it!!)
-Devon
Hell yeah! Sounds like a memorable experience… my favorite Ministry era
Killbot&GorGorAttack!! Oh no are you kidding me? That’s extremely disappointing.
@@PoppiStrawberryLemon Are you talking about the bonus tracks not being included on the reissue?
This video makes me crave a video about Rob Halford’s project 2wo. I remember hearing “I’m a Pig” on the radio when it was released and thought it was a good tune. I guess the industrial bug made its way through the metal scene at that time.
An unexpected project for Halford to take on
Great video review. Not his best record but has a bunch of great songs. Yeah, Manson, NIN, White Zombie and Ministry were really popular in mid 90's. Bleedangel is a gem of a track.
Could you maybe do a full ranking of all misfits, Danzig and Samhain albums/ep’s? That would be a good video for people to learn how to get into Danzig.
I could. The Static Age did a good one
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack I’ll check out that video man!
I love Danzig 5.. a bit of extra trivia, Joseph Bishara who plays keys on the album, does soundtracks for James Wan movies (Malignant, etc)
This album has certainly grown on me over time and I enjoy most of it . It’s just a shame they used so many affects on his still strong voice at the time ,which we come to notice on 666 that his voice starts to weaken a little ~Krash
This video just popped up and I have watched a few of your videos especially about the pros of CDs which I still love and collect and anything where you talk about Autopsy who I love. I just wanted to say I love this channel
Thank you! Autopsy is a top five band
Great review, been a fan of Danzig and Blackacidevil is one of his best and underrated albums. It may not be perfect but songs like See All You Were, Bleedangel, Blackacidevil, Sacrifice, Don't be Afraid and Ashes make it one of my favorites. Would love to see him do something like that again.
Black Acid Devil is a weird experiment and I enjoyed it! Danzig tries different things at least.
Very cool, I had no idea Danzig went industrial. As some one that was an industrial fan and then came into metal through it, it will be really interesting to see how Danzig sailed the industrial waters. Thanks for this video. I really enjoyed it. I'll give Danzig 5 a listen tonight!
Definitely give 6 a listen too, “Cult Without a Name” is fucking awesome
I still love “Come to Silver”
Still loving that new intro! “And then everyone chucked it except for Glenn...” I think that was to make us wonder... Big transitions? Like the love-fest comicbook that paired him with Henry Rollins? (WEIRDEST fandom pairing I have ever seen!) Whoah, minute 1:00 made me think of “You Know Who You Are” by Ministry! Evil Elvis? I like it! :D
Dang, your most core fans are the most important thing. I wish EVERYONE would understand that ONE phrase! Seriously! Now? I am about to DIE! DISNEY/DANZIG??? WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT! D-U-D-E-!-!-! (I... am... not sure Walt would approve... but I wonder!) OH, thank HEAVENS! ROY questioned this! *Someone* was wondering! (Heh, well, *mostly* natural; nice!) Oh, jeez, there ya go. You picked up the Ministry bits, too! Well done! Radio-Ready, indeed!
It’s kinda crazy because another pen pal is all getting into Danzig and Misfits right now and writing to me about it. I gotta lead her to this if I get a chance. *wink* Anywhere you’d suggest Danzig falls into the genre in a music store? (Sounds like it might be pretty complicated!) Awesome shit from KillBot&GorGorAttack AS usual!
Very well done video. I was expecting a bash-fest, considering the reputation of the album, but you took a very mature approach. When I first heard this album years ago I honestly thought I had put the wrong album on. Just couldn't grasp that it was really Danzig. I'm not an industrial guy but I dig it. It reminds me of the time period: Playstation games, TV shows and suspense movies like "8mm" with Nicolas Cage. The killer from that movie totally bought this album, no doubt. I get people who hate it, though. I use this album in musical discussion as an example of stylistic change and I always get a good laugh out of people by first playing a clip of I'm The One off Danzig 2 and then following it up with 7th House.
I liked DANZIG 5 when it came out in 1996, because at the time I was staring to get full into Industrial music so I get it quickly that he wanted to evolve as a musician or be part of what was "new" at the time on Metal, yeah, that was before the hype with Melodic Death Metal, Symphonic Gothic Metal and Symphonic Black Metal.
Blackacidevil is being released on iTunes later this month (Oct 2021). I'll get a few songs but definitely not the whole album.
Any chance you'll review 2wo's Voyeurs? Rob Halford and John 5's one off industrial project.
Anything’s possible! I believe Trent Reznor was also on that album
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack I know he was invoked with the mixing of the album. Which before he got involved with the album. It was more guitar heavy but once he got involved it became more of a industrial album
I hated Blackacidevil when it first came out, but it grew on me quickly. Now I consider it one of their best.
Honestly, I never really listened to any Danzig album past How the Gods Kill, but I knew about this album from the Sabbath cover. It's... interesting.
While industrial rock / metal isn't a subgenre I delve into often, I have a soft spot for it. It makes me think of the movies and video games from that era, from 1996-2004, where a lot of those kinds of media used dark and gritty imagery and soundscapes. This album sounds very much like a product of that time, which can be both a good and a bad thing.
Listen to Danzig 4 if you get the chance. Original lineup, focuses more on dark atmosphere rather than riffs/instrumentation
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack Oh hell yeah, this video made me want to revisit their music honestly. Thanks!
great vid
a lot of folks I knew didn't like Blackacidevil, but I loved it from day one. it almost doesn't exist on streaming music today
Watch for it next month, Cleopatra is reissuing it on vinyl and CD!
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack here’s hoping satan’s child gets reissued too
Well I got the reissue and it’s the first time I’ve listened to the album since it came out. Honestly it was pretty bad ass. Might be my home theater system lol.
I like Blackacidevil.
I was horrified when my sister gave me this cd in 1996 and I first listened to it. A few more listens, over the years hasn't improved my impression.
This came out when I was a senior. We went saw that tour down in Greenville, SC🤘🏼
How was that show?
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack It was pretty good. Electric Hellfire Club and Powerman 5000 opened. My first Danzig show was in 95 with Korn and M. Manson opening 🤘🏼
Such 90s bands, haha! Sounds like fun
Bought it new, and I hated it at first. But it slowly grew on me until I was blasting it so loud my neighbor's neighbors could also enjoy it :)
This was the album that got me into Industrial. However, if it’s any consolation, my dad, a fan of Danzig’s first 4, hates the album, too :P
Haha!
Even though I haven't really listened much to this album it's already got me into Danzig. I've always been a huge fan of the more electronic side of rock music with Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails being my favorite bands, and this album is exactly the kind of stuff I like. Sacrifice so far has been my favorite.
I love Danzig !! U gotta know what was happening at the time, that and by then Danzig had enough great albums to sit back and relax a bit and seek out personal indulgences. Even on the first 4 albums Danzig could've retired doing festivals with an 8-10 song set list
Hey killbot, you going to the Obituary show on the 29th?!
Probably not, but may see Opeth
loved it personaly , but for sure if ya don' t dig noisy sound textures , you won' t get into it !!!
Of course Black Acid Devil is the only one he’s reissued. 😡
He also reissued Satan’s Child
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack another record for me…… to Poop 💩 on!!
Remember Black Aria
Forget Black Aria 2!
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack Yeah, I love the Misfits, Samhain and Danzig and Black Aria (1) but Black Aria 2 is without a doubt my least favorite album Glenn ever made.
The first three Solo Danzig records were the best. Danzig 3 is my personal favorite album out of the bunch.
His best vocal work, and I like how dark it is in an over-the-top way
The first four are masterpieces. Danzig I is my personal fav.
I own the two different versions of blackacidevil. It takes a few listens to appreciate. It’s by no means my favorite- although I do like “hint of her blood” “ see all you were” and “ashes” quite a bit. To me distorting the vocals to the where it’s barely audible is working against Danzig’s strengths - which are his vocals. One could say Glenn was hinting at this direction with a song like “godless” from How the God’s kill- which is a pretty odd song. There’s a lot of push and pull with tempos and flat out weirdness with clanking of whatever the hell that thing is
I wouldn’t mind hearing a remixed version of the album, higher guitars, less/no effects on the vocals, the absence of “power of darkness,” not as compressed.. “ashes” is such a great song
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack that could be interesting. I’m more of a Samhain fan these days although I’m a fan of all 3. Like you I have the Samhain box set which I dig - I kinda like the original version of Unholy passion a bit more. I know that first press is hard to come by…cool video by the way…
I love this album, I'm glad he made it, as I'm a big fan of industrial. I'd rather listen to this than most of what he made after.
Then again, I've never been too into industrial, so that may be why.
Yeah ever since danzig broke up, I've been listening to him. Thanks for the info bro!
They never broke up, he’s doing a show on Halloween! Unless you’re talking about when the original lineup broke up
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack Yeah I'm talking about when they changed to graves as the singer
Cool!
Good lord...I seen Danzig I seen Cantrell.....And only seconds in I was thinking MY GOD HOW DID THEY COME UP WITH THIS CRAP?!?!
"Danzig is as Danzig does..."
Forrest Gump...
Cool review I’m into Danzig and into industrial but can’t get into this cd I know it was in the 8millomitter movie with Nicolas Cage can’t remember with song tho.
Nice video
Circle of the Snakes is a GREAT Danzig album.
Well researched. Love your vids.
An Industrial band that I'm throwing out there for anyone who reads this is:
Revolting Cocks.
They don't get mentioned much, but have an excellent cover of Rod Stewart's "If you Think I'm Sexy".
I didn't care at all for this album when it was first released but it caught my ear a number of years later when a friend of mine was playing the album in his truck at very low volume and recognized "hand of doom" because the subs still registered the bass. I said "what the fuck are you listening to? sounds like black Sabbath". He says "it's Danzig 5, check it out" as he turns up the volume. Some credit must be due to the stereo system because prior to that I had only heard it on a shitty litte boom box. The multiple layers of sounds that had once sounded messy now had definition and clarity. I don't love every song but a few rank very high on my list of Danzig favorites, most notably "ashes". The album can't help but stand apart from everything else Danzig has done but it is definitely worth opening yourself up to.
It’s funny to me because the first 4 albums are timeless and classic. 5 is definitely of its time but still interesting nonetheless
This was the last record where Glenn's voice sounded good in the mix.
So much better than rob zombie but still not good. Wasp did an awesome industrial album. Slightly industrial anyways
I think Danzig hit the mark better when Satan’s Child came out. A tinge of industrial, but its metal. “Cult Without a Name” is hard to beat.
Nice iPod bro
Gracias
I've never been able to find a live recording of Blackacidevil the song from 95 thru 1999 Satan's Child.A good quality live version would be great.
ua-cam.com/video/7Y5deezMIqg/v-deo.html
Not “Blackacidevil,” but “Hint of Her Blood”
At least he was not making the same music over and over.
Indeed. 6 was a better album, though
Lol this is just like Todd in the Shadows' series Trainwreckords! But still great video!
It was definitely an inspiration
I own the reissue blackaciddevil Cd, the one with the robo Danzig lol, and I actually quite like it. I love heavy music and I did like Danzig's original style yes, but there's Alot of good tracks for us headbangers and deeper is the saving grace of the bonus songs, superior to the original. Makes me even happier now knowing It's a decently rare cd, not something just anyone would be playing
Some of the bonus tracks are better than the album tracks
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack My top 3 would probably be black acid devil, idk that "you have no soul you have no soul you have no soul" just gets me in the zone, sacrifice and deeper, I can listen to the whole album but I always like going between those 3
Never met a Danzig album I didn't like, though 1, 2, and 7 are the best IMO.
Fiend club for life!
LETS GOOO!
This album didn’t really surprise me I mean come on it was 1995 and everybody was on the vibe of Nine Inch Nails and industy and goth rock it was everywhere
It's the only Danzig album that I own. :)
Me and my buddy just relized yesterday that i look a bit like u lmao 😂
The thing that offends me most with this album? His vocals are to this album what Lars Ulrich's drumming is to St. Anger - it ruins the album.
The music bothers me less. Had the vocals not been so dissonant and mixed almost to the point of being a backing vocal, I could forgive this album and enjoy it a lot more. That's why I like Hand Of Doom, Come To Silver, and Ashes - all three tracks allow Glenn to play to his strengths while nearly everything else on the album merely suppresses his vocals. His vocals being a major part of what made those first four albums so memorable.
He wears engineer boots, not cowboy boots, there's a difference.
I’m a huge Danzig fan and that was probably my least favorite album other than Skeletons. I haven’t heard Danzig sings Elvis yet. Kind of scared of it lol
I’ll save ya the trouble by saying that it ain’t worth listening to! Not even worth downloading 🤣
Not a fan of the album at all (in my opinion it’s the worst album I’ve ever heard in my life) that said. This was a great video! And it took me a few months ago to notice that Tommy Victor of Prong was playing Guitar on the Sacrifice video 🤣
I've always said it's worse than St. Anger
Thanks man! How do you like Danzig 6?
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack you’re welcome! And I love that album! I thought it was a good rebound after 5 and I thought 7 and Circle of Snakes were pretty solid as well
@@samuelwetz8378 Agreed, I love Danzig 6, and I remember liking the next 2 albums. My problem with later Danzig, especially Black Laden Crown, is the constant use of pinch harmonics after every riff. I liked the songs enough, but just couldn't handle the excessive pinch harmonics
Theatre of Tragedy did the same thing as Danzig by making an Industrial\Techno album named Musique. Previous albums were amazing, pioneering Gothic\Doom Metal. I prefer TOT’s old school sound but since I am a fan of Industrial, Musique was a pretty good album. I can see why most old school fans were pissed off - I was originally. If the band is going to completely change the style of music, why not make it a side project? I can understand keeping the name to sell more records but in the end, they are only pissing off their loyal fans. Yes, I agree a band needs to mature and add different elements to their music to keep from sounding rehashed. But by completely alienating the sound that made them who they are it is going to leave many fans disappointed and pissed.
Theatre were so good for a while…
Danzig 4 is my favorite Danzig album
“Can’t speak, can’t talk, can’t do anything you want…”
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack Dude when I played the hell out of that tape .I might still have it but I know it sounds like crap by now!that's good cassette usage!
i dont remember his band quiting on him. didnt he fire them?
Read Eerie’s book, he says that Chuck quit over financial issues, then him and John quit at the same time because they weren’t having fun, back problems, addiction issues, etc… Chuck talked about coming back some months later, they said “well we’ve been having these issues with you, so if you wanna come back you gotta fix those” and he said “ok I might as well stay gone.”
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack damn that fucken hurts to read, hopefully we get an original danzig lineup reunion soon
One thing over the years that’s become hilarious to me is that Danzig is Awkward when he’s by himself in his music videos.
With his band playing he’s good, but by himself or in a green screen then he often just bounces in place. In JuJu bone he like sways his hands away from the girls like they got aids or something.
Part of me wonders if he’s got diagnosable anxiety or something. It would explain certain “dickish” behaviors
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack I mean he’s a cool dude, but he definitely has bizarre issues. It’s also weird he never had a kid. He’s like 70 now and there’s no one for him to pass his legacy too.
@@masterzombie161efron danzig is his child.
I recommend Thrash Funk Metal band Mordred if you haven't tried it.
Wow
I didn't love it or hate it. If that makes sense....
this album would've been so good if someone who really understood industrial would've mixed the record. it is mixed like a mess though man. just no balance. even his voice sounds like crud on half of it. what a shame, what a missed opportunity. even just a version of this record with the fx wetness turned down would sound 10x better.
2:17 Say what?
No band can release amazing albums their entire career. Danzig 1-4 are pure masterpieces and one of the few albums I can listen to start to finish. Have to cherry pick songs after that.
Danzig 5 best songs - 7th house, Hint of her blood, Ashes. Danzig 6 is pure shit, only like Lilian
NIN phase it happens....
Hint Of Her Blood😈👍
Good video about the worst album I’ve ever from any band
I love Come To Silver, both the original and acoustic versions, but man do I hate this album. I like industrial music a lot, but I don't think Danzig was very good at it. When he incorporated elements of it into his music, that was cool, but going full into the industrial sound was a poor choice imo
The metal album that is worse than St. Anger. I fucking hate this album!!! I do like the song Sacrifice though, I suppose that's one more song than any on St. Anger. But I do love Danzig 666: Satan's Child.
Bathory’s “Octagon” is my personal “St Anger.” Fucking hate that album.
@@KillbotAndGorGorAttack I had the first 4 Bathory albums. Didn't get anything after that, I felt like I should give it a chance, I like the music just not Quorthon's new vocals.
The Nordland albums were really good
I'm proud to say I stopped at Danzig 4. But, I will it a chance.. the 6th one I might listen to first. Hey, I liked less than zero!
“Cult Without a Name” was a great fucking song off of 6
Fantastic video and i love your little pride flag 🤘🤘
