Last year I spoke publicly for the first time about being Bipolar. I'd hidden it for 7 whole years because I felt ashamed and embarrassed of the condition. I was already in the public eye and afraid to share my experience because of the stigma and judgement surrounding mental illness; more so, Bipolar.
People would often say I'm "relatable", "talented", "funny", but I was living a double life. The moment I'd walk off stage or come off-air I'd go right back to feeling nothing but desperately depressed, chronically anxious and frequently suicidal.
I'd even convinced myself I was a "fraud" because I was encouraging and facilitating others to share their personal stories yet not brave enough to share my own.
I have learned to accept that I will suffer bipolar for the rest of my life. I don't know what the future may bring but I understand I'm on a journey. One thing I do know is that I can no longer be a victim of mental illness.
I want to share this message with others in the hope to inspire them to "keep fighting the good fight". There is life after diagnosis.
    Love n' Light,
    Leah CK
