Trying for the realistic tsunami (monstrous tidal surge/flash flood from the sea) rather than the giant cresting wave we usually see, I guess. As the footage of the 2001 Banda Aceh event and that which followed the 2011 Fukushima quake in Japan shows, the effect is more like a flash flood than a crashing wave.
Yes, this is what people do not understand. A tsunami is a flood, not a breaking wave like they are used to seeing. It is MUCH stronger and behaves entirely differently.
Mmm well, it's called tsunami, when a tsunami happens lots of trees are destroyed, also human lifes are took sadly. It's just a natural disaster. In this tsunami (the one that are trying to imitate for the film, the Thailand one) more than 230.000 people died. Imagine the destruction. We can't underestimate the see and nature in general.
Problem is : this is not realist, AT ALL. A tsunami, a real one, is slow.... It is faster than tides (which are very long waves), but not much. The problem of a tsunami is not the power and the speed of water, but simply that water goes up and ... keep going up for dozen of minutes ...
Bro it can either be a fast tide or a wall of water, so yes, this is realistic. Well it is according to the actual survivors and some footage of the tsunami.
The tsunami reached speeds of over 500 mph in open water. As the wave moved inland to shallower waters, it indeed "slowed down". But it also got taller and " thicker" for lack of a better word. When it hit Thailand, the wave was about 100 feet high. The tsunami wave was over 160(!) feet tall when it hit Indonesia. It was like a combination tidal wave and tidal surge. And it was still going a fug ton faster than you or I could run or pedal when it came inland. You might as well be hit by a semi. Added: And holy crap, look up footage on UA-cam. Does that water look slow? I was lying in a hospital bed when that happened and I was glued to the TV coverage for days. I remember a senior couple, standing on some debris, reaching out to be saved and then disappearing in an instant, torn away by the water. I can see it to this day without even closing my eyes. The Japanese tsunami motored right along, too.
This IS creative, any other movie would’ve done a monstrous wave over 300 meters tall or a cresting wave, this one takes a more realistic approach to tsunamis Also. This was recorded in Spain, not the US r/therewasanattempt to roast a country
Wow, you made an actual tsunami! I like how it reflected off the far wall same as the natural-caused waves.
Naomi deserved an Oscar for her performance.

Well, it can either appear as a fast rising tide or a wall of water.
Could you imagine how much water had to be used.

Million gallons or so? They used seawater so it was free.

A tsunami is a bore, so is this wave. Legit.
