a celeb memoir i would highly recommend is the half of it by madison beer, and i know most of yalls immediate reaction was probably an eye roll cause you have this perception of madison as a shallow internet star but this book proves shes so much more than that. it talks about her struggles with paranoia, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, and her nudes being leaked to the public when she was only 14 years old and having to deal with the trauma and aftermath of that. the whole book is a very raw, unfiltered look into the life of a girl who was throw lemons but managed to make lemonade every single time. she also has this really cute journal entries in between some chapters as a way for readers to pause and jot down some of their thoughts and she also included some questions from fans that sparked the conversations of chapters. 10/10 would recommend
lol, when I read catcher in the rye in high school my teacher asked us all what we thought of it and I said “if I wanted to read about a pretentious teenager I’d keep a diary”
Actually, I find complex characters should be allowed frustrating moments - it's part of being a well-rounded and admittedly flawed human being -, and the slice-of-life genre's tendency to stick to, well, life, basically necessitates some level of ridiculousness, since, well, life is chaos... and then you die. Enjoy that chaos, because you may very well only have one go at it. The function of a diary entry almost necessitates a certain level of annoyingness too. Take the Diary of a Wimpy kid, for example. And some of the most entertaining characters are once you'd like to slap if you knew them in real life. Take Tony Stark, Kuzco or Eren Yaeger - wait, actually, that last one was annoying in fiction too. (I know it's a joke - or... I hope it's a joke? Self-deprecation. How very British of you.) xD
