    100% on the support of those around. When I started reselling just over a year ago, my boyfriend was extremely negative about it. There was zero support. All he saw was me spending money and shopping all the time, and spending any hour I wasn’t working my full time job with photographing and listing. I jumped in and grew as fast as possible but had no free time at all. I think he resented that and also didn’t see it as a way of making money. 10 months later, he no longer makes comments when I bring shopping bags full of stuff home or when I get Thred Up boxes delivered. Because like you said, the numbers are there and can’t be ignored. I’ve also made more of an effort to have personal time for us.

      You're right - I think it's a two way street. Sometimes what our loved ones are upset about is simply the amount of time reselling can take away from them, and that stings even more if we can't back up that time with money to show for it haha. I'm glad things have gotten better for you with your boyfriend!

    I lost my job of 15 years 12 weeks ago due to health reasons. I got unemployment, but it wasn't quite what I was making welding 50 hours a week. I started watching your videos, Flippin aint easy, aussie flipper, two aussies and froggy flips.
    8 weeks ago I started selling stuff around the house. I then hit the GWs and thrift stores around town. I dont over do it. I have about 200 items listed. I have about 50 that need listed and right now I only buy a couple of things a week. Im averaging about $400 a week clear after fees and shipping. My wife didnt like the initial money i spent to start, but now she helps shop, she helps pack and the such. I love doing this.

    My husband wasn't super supportive right off the bat. He wasn't negative but I could tell he didn't get it. He wanted me to get a job with my degree. But once the money started coming in regularly, he has become very supportive. He even arranged for our kids to be watched so we can take a little road trip to thrift together. He said he won't thrift, just hang out, help, keep me company, etc. I'm shocked! So yes, the numbers tend to shut people up lol

      My partner was a lot more mad about my reselling before we had a talk about how he was jealous.
      its not super hard to get him to open up about his feelings, were of a certain culture, so that's fortunate for me.
      But i think if you run in different circles than I do, your husband might feel really ashamed that you make... it looks like more money than him? It seems like an awkward situation for a lot of guys.

      My wife who was my girlfriend at the time started reselling when eBay first started. I was surprised when she came home with $200.00 in baseball cards. I laughed but was very supportive. Within 5 minutes of her listing one she had 10 bids. She taught me how to sell. She got out of it to do other things. In 2018 I got back into it. I had to relearn the game. This is super fair, and probably something I should have added to the list in this video. Do you only sell on one platform? If you only sell on Poshmark, the frustrating thing is, oftentimes when sales are slow, it's really not you. It's Poshmark. Personally, that's why I list on so many platforms.

  • @zachjohnson7973

    Great Video❤ I am a SAHM and started reselling back in April and have been averaging about $500 in sales up until this month. I feel like another reason resellers give up is they go thru months were they have little to no sales. I continue to thrift once a week but try to be selective about the pieces I buy and list but this month has been very slow sale wise. I feel like since PoshMark has started the live shows my sales have really decreased and it’s very frustrating:( The live sales are not something I am interested in doing just from the standpoint of how time consuming they are. I really wish PoshMark would not have introduced this new feature because think it has hurt my closet sales. I have great support from my family and have done everything right but what do you do when you have really bad months and you don’t want to continue to shop or list items. I even relisted a lot of stale listings but still no increase in sales. So frustrating 😂

    • @beckyparkco
      @beckyparkco  Рік тому +1

      I agree with you - it's tough when you're doing the things you're supposed to be doing, but the sales just aren't there. Poshmark has gone through quite the identity crisis the last couple years, and sellers have truly suffered as a result. This is one of the reasons I crosslist to other platforms as well - Poshmark is too unreliable for it to be the only reselling platform I rely on. Personally, I would recommend that you start getting some of your items listed over to platforms like Mercari or eBay. it's scary, but I do think it'll be worth your time and effort.

    When I first started reselling two years ago I only thrifted clothing and shoes. Then I started adding dishes, mugs, ornaments, and art pieces. These things sell alot slower and tend to sit around a long time. I ended up having a ton of inventory and few sales. I almost quit. But then I decided to go back to clothing and shoes because I know more about them and they sell quicker. Now I'm working on getting rid of the hard goods and focusing on soft lines. It feels much better and much more manageable.

    I am so thankful for not only a supportive husband and family but also friends and co-workers. Like, when I told my boss that I was looking to step down at the end of the year to become a SAHM and take on my reselling business full time, he was so excited. One thing that has really pushed me this past year (you even mentioned it in the video) was my husband being unsure that I could do it for the long hall because of my past history (ADHD, having done reselling in the past, hobbies and other side-hustles failing, not wanting to join an MLM...). That really kicked my butt into gear: 1) to prove that I CAN do it, and 2) to prove to myself that I can be my own boss. With guidance from your channel and a few others, I have grown a lot quicker than we thought I would (posting my first listing end of February, to 5 platforms and over 500 live listings). I am so thankful for this community!

    Awesome video as always. My experience from resellers who give up is because they DO NOT do MARKET RESEARCH, they do not do a self assessment test to determine if reselling is for them. Repetitively I hear them say, "How hard is it to sell things? I see other people doing it, it's not hard." They spend money on pallets, rent a space at the flea market, don't do price comps, and reality hits they give up, and sell off their assets very cheaply to other resellers who know how to get a great deal. My weakness is I need to to steady UA-cam videos. When it comes to getting things done, I create a time line and work backwards. My career helps me. In my line of work I have to move immediately, I can't stand around planning, I don't sit there for 15 minutes trying to figure out where to start. I just see it go to it and adjust priorities as I go. The job needs to get done. time is money. I need to apply this same concept in doing UA-cam videos, and I am going to start right now. Thanks Becky

    • @beckyparkco
      @beckyparkco  Рік тому +1

      yes! so many of the same principles we applied to other jobs can be applied to both reselling and youtube. We're often paralyzed because we don't know what we should do next, not necessarily because we don't know HOW to do it. But, like you said, we just gotta get the job done. Tackle the first thing you see in front of you. It may not have been the most important thing, but at least you did something!

    Im grateful for all the support I have from my family. My partner doesn’t list as much as I do but he got into reselling and completely understands how it works. Also, my mother started selling housewares on Etsy and is giving me a run for my money in sales! My main problem is I have a difficult time managing myself, and I am severely demotivated by clutter and disorganization. Like, it literally breaks my brain to where I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing. I’m working on it though, just doing my best to just stop thinking about it and push past those roadblocks. It’s also videos like this that help me remember my passion for what I do and that there are others out there going through similar situations. Thanks Becky♥️

But yes - some days it is super hard for me to manage myself too. Sometimes I just show myself grace and let myself scroll through IG for an hour, but sometimes I just have to turn on a motivating video in the background and get the dang thing done!

    Hi Becky, Thank you for being here and for the information. One topic I thought you may discuss was buying things that don't sell...buyers remorse. I am a newbie to this (a matter of months) and I have items that won't sell. I am trying to be more selective of what I buy or make sure if I buy something that the price is low enough if it doesn't sell. Your first comment in the video about how your sourced at the start of this journey and had items for 5 years until they sold was reassuring that I'm not the only one to source and not sell. I guess my point is that this is very frustrating and at times I feel as if I'm going backwards. However, I keep at it and just try to be more selective of what I do purchase to resell. Again, thank you for being here!

      @katherine odonoghue 🎯🎯. Same here, but in the beginning (when I had ABSOLUTELY no ideal about "sell through rate" or "Brands"), I would be "lucky" enough to always manage to list 2 or 3 items out of a haul that would pay for the entire hauls -- but I wouldn't list the rest. I did that for 7 months STRAIGHT -- so you can imagine the "death pile" -- which turned into a rental "Self-Storage" death pile. I still thrifted, but I learned to pick up ONLY items that met my STR and Brand model. I "IGNORED" the "Self-Storage" death pile until last month. I FINALLY sat down to figure out 'WHY" I wasn't listing the death pile. My "WHY" was because I now "KNEW" that I had a lot of bad buys. I decided (that since I couldn't go back in time) I would just "FORGIVE" myself, and just donate back the "bad buys" to Goodwill. I ordered the 30-piece box bundle(s) from Walmart and headed to my Storage unit. As I started going through bags, I realized that only about 1/2 of each bag were "Bad Buys" -- and some items I just paid way too much for. I pulled (and logged) the receipts and separated the items. I'm labeling and boxing the "keeps" so I can just go in and pick up a box to list. I'm only about 1/3 of the way though my Storage unit, but I FEEL so much better KNOWING that in 2 or 3 weeks, I will know EXACTLY What/Where ALL of my "Keeps" are -- and Goodwill will have the rest.
      I'm so THANKFUL to @beckyparkonposhmark and this channel 💕💕.

      I haven't tried it yet! I have my first sale coming up after Thanksgiving. I'm not super hopeful that it's going to be a huge game changer for me haha.

    Very informative video Beck - I think i fall into the 4th Category but thats only because i haven't quite developed that level of consistency required to make this work, i like being my own boss and working on my own terms but i have fallen into the Do what i want to do when i want to do it category. If i want a break i have a break.
    I am doing well on the first 3 categories i am not overwhelmed with stock, i have a set number of listings but as i get more into it and source more that number rises. So at the moment it's at 110 listings - i only list when it falls below that.
    I have set myself a Minimum target for now and will more then likely take it more seriously next year as in source more.

      That's awesome! Yes; the motivation piece can be super difficult for some, or just like, locking in a set schedule. I'm excited for what 2023 is going to look like for you!

    Thank you for teaching all of us so much. You gave me lots of hope from the very beginning. I also have an ADHD brain and don’t stick with things. But…. January will make one year of reselling and April will make a year for my you tube channel.

    Within about 2 months My problem quickly became that I couldn’t keep up with how much I was selling. I’d buy 15 then 8 would literally sell the very next day.

      @@beckyparkco I know but so crazy lol almost a year in & I still cannot get over 300 available listings. I’m thrifting everyday & shipping bundles the next. Makes me wanna just buy a TON then list it all real fast to have the inventory lol

    In the first few days I noticed a ton of shares. It’s been about two weeks and they’re down to a trickle, unless I share first. It’s only been about two weeks. I haven’t sold anything, but I’ve spent $137 on the site for myself. 😢

      Since you listed two weeks ago, have you done much else? Most reselling platforms want to see daily consistency when it comes to things like listing and sharing. Personally, I would recommend listing one item a day versus ten things in one day if all you have is ten things. Does that make sense?

      @@beckyparkco My enthusiasm has waned a bit. I did share quite a bit for a while. I have learned to share my closet recently. I will start listing more. I have 12 things so far. Your video on editing helped me tremendously! I never would have known how to make the background disappear, etc. I had do much fun with the fine art filter on Snapseed with a black leather biker jacket. You’re a great content provider and instructor.
