Kenneth Kennethson No it wouldn’t, because it’s a different kind of guitar. It’s still a guitar, and it’s definitely electric; so it is an electric bass guitar
Exactly! Although the photographs from the rehearsal of this song show Ringo playing cool striped congas: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/63/7c/6d/637c6d130efb18ad80a0727c62daa855.jpg
My God, If only George Martin could have heard this, I think he would have listened in disbelief that your interpretation and performance could be so mirror imaged to the original mixture of tracks from studio 2, a stunning achievement of sound!
You are Soooo awesome! I mean your attention to detail is incomparable and the fact that you were able to figure it all out, every single note and special sound, by yourself is beyond me! You have immense dedication and anyone can tell that you really love music and what you are doing. That was a very moving performance but you deffinately deserve more than applause! Keep doing what you are doing because I know you are deffinately going to be a massive success! :)
Thanks for noticing that! A full description of how I approached recording the orchestra section can be found on my website here: mattiboo.weebly.com/a-day-in-the-life.html
Mattiboo I recommend you do a video on how many instruments you played, who played which instrument for chord and how you played each piano, keyboard and harmonium for the final chord of A Day In The Life and show what the half speed piano originally sounds like and what it sounds with the half speed. That way we will us viewers how to play it. :)
I am not sure what is more impressive, the fact that he can figure out all of these parts, the fact that he has access to all of these instruments, or the fact that he can PLAY every damn part on every instrument!!! that last piano chord STILL stops time for me. Fantastic
Been a Beatles fan all my life, listened to this song (in reverence) often, but even though I play guitar and some piano I could never hear distinctly all the notes and changes that are intrinsic in the song. Thank you for laying it out there for me. I'm still amazed at how the Beatles and their mates could conceive the idea then execute it so brilliantly.
Honestly....6 people disliked this and gave it a thumbs down? What did "Success" look like to those 6 people? What would have made them happy? This is a guy doing these tracks because he loves the songs and took an amazing amount of effort to put this together As it is it's fantastic, even if it it was bad, with the work that goes in to these it deserves a thumbs up! Well done for what it a really nice video
I don't believe in this... 43 people disliked this masterpiece? They tried to play this music in the guitar and failed, i think. Haha. Thanks for the video! Bravo!
mattiboo you are a fantastic musician. I have never seen such attention to detail in a cover, I must have listened to that final e chord 20 times. Thank you for such an in depth cover of my favourite Beatles song
Wow! I tried to reproduce that final E chord as accurately as possible by using the original studio photos taken during the overdub session. Thank you for acknowledging the care that went into making this video!
A Day in the Life The Beatles LYRICS I read the news today, oh boy About a lucky man who made the grade And though the news was rather sad Well I just had to laugh I saw the photograph. He blew his mind out in a car He didn't notice that the red lights had changed A crowd of people stood and stared They'd seen his face before Nobody was really sure If he was from the House of Lords. I saw a film today, oh boy The English army had just won the war A crowd of people turned away But I just had to look Having read the book I'd love to turn you on. Woke up, fell out of bed, Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup, And looking up I noticed I was late. Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat Found my way upstairs and had a smoke, Somebody spoke and I went into a dream. I read the news today oh boy Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire And though the holes were rather small They had to count them all Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall. I'd love to turn you on. Sorry i want to sing
The one thing no one ever seems to mention is that, as hauntingly beautiful as this song is, Ringo's drumming makes the song. In a song about social disrhythmia, Ringo never plays the same drum strike twice yet maintains the beat and flow. The only time there is a patterned beat is in the measures between the first crescendo and Paul's part which hammers a monotonous stomp as Paul sings about the mindless routine of a workday. Brilliantly orchestrated through Ringo's drums.
This is absolutely spot on. Everything except for the drums. It seems like the snares on the snare drum aren't tight enough. And the toms need to be muted
Different drums. Ringo used his 22,13,16 Ludwig Classic with his faithful Jazz festival snare. The unique sound is complex and simple. They used simple tea towels and a pack of cigarettes taped to his snare. Then there is the more complex mic placements and effects. Geoff was responsible for the mic choice and placement. Still, Mattiboo did an outstanding job with the sound he got from those drums he used and even the Sabian cymbals! I have a few original sets like Ringo's down to the correct Swivomatic he used. I'm considered kind of an expert. I also know the gentlman who owned Ringo's Ed Sullivan head (well use to !!!) I've worn John's original glasses and Paul's Shea jacket and much more. No names please, but if you know much about this stuff you know who I mean. Lives near me. Please do not name him here.......
2Tellthetruth By this time Ringo had started to used tea towels to mute his toms but on this song it doesn’t sound like he does, the toms have a very “ringy” sound unlike other songs from Sgt Pepper like Good Morning, Good Morning which seem to have a very dead sound which Ringo used a lot more on 1968 onwards. But I agree the drums here do sound a bit off like they weren’t tuned properly, but the bad sound could also be down to bad mic placement.
I am absolutely knocked out! Being a multi-instrumentalist and huge Beatles fan myself, all I can say is you have got your parts down to a tee! I have been viewing some of the other vids also and I'm going to watch them all! Awesome job, just blown away by the talent and accuracy! keep going! Ed

The comments that I've read say it better than I could ever possibly do. So I'll simply say congratulations to you and thank you once again for sharing your incredible talents for all of us to enjoy. I truly hope that you are unable to wipe the smile off your face at what you have posted on this day, June 1, 2017.
I can't put into words how amazing this is. Had tears in my eyes by the ending chord. Congratulations on your monumental achievement and thank you so much for doing this!
You do great work. This song really shows how talented the Beatles were. Each part fit together perfectly. Hard to believe this is the same band that did I want to hold your hand only 3 years earlier. That's a progression and I highly doubt will ever be repeated again. They were a different band every 6 months.
The trombonist was actually a very talented friend of mine! He was great to work with and played both the arranged/improvised parts like it was no problem. Check out the full description here for the details on the orchestra recreation process: mattiboo.weebly.com/a-day-in-the-life.html
Holy shit, that was awesome! This is just art, this is the closest I could ever be to a live and genuine performance of this song. This just like the Beatles wanted it to be.
Just got the deluxe Sgt Pepper 50th version remastered/mixed by Giles Martin on vinyl! It's like hearing the album for the first time again. The early takes of this with the hums instead of the horns are very cool!
Giles Martin and the team did a great job remixing the Sgt. Pepper album from the original master tapes. I especially enjoy the title track and "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" The hums are very cool to hear, but I think Paul made the right decision in switching to the pianos; much more powerful!
