    I know a huge family that bought houses adjacent to each other in a brand new sub division. A whole section of it. They took all the fences down and made a huge private park for their families.

      I have been wanting to do that in my neighborhood since I was a real estate agent in 1979. My house was built in 1956. In 1956 everyone in California came from somewhere else. I was born in 1955 in California, but my parents were from South Dakota and Texas. Half my first grade class raised their hands when the teacher said, "Raise your hand if you were born in California." (Not sure how accurate that was, but still.) California was settled by people who left home, often at great risk and a long distance. My plan was to make some private places smaller, and to join the extra spaces along the fence lines together, with some half-height fences with gates. That, alone, would change the social dynamic in the area. Dog-sitting, child-sitting, watching out for burglars.
      Design would depend on what the possibilities are. The post-war houses in California built tall solid fences around the homes, I think because they were moving next to strangers. The front porches are too far apart to really have a conversation.

      Awesome❤! Tfs. I’ve thought for years about doing something similar with my 5 remaining(youngest sister passed💔)siblings. Our mom and her siblings all had at least 5 children. Our mom’s oldest sister bought several houses side by side. All of her children currently live in those houses and since her passing the children have purchased the entire block.

    This is normal in other parts of the world. I grew up in Nigeria and shared a communal kitchen and bathroom with my neighbors. We cooked dinner together, and all the children played with each other. We were never lonely. We didn’t even have time to watch tv, since we always had people to associate with daily.

      You shared it because you had to not because you wanted to. I dont why youre comparing your 3rd world juju country with the U.S. It's like comparing a high value escort to a corner junkie prosti. lol

    My cousins all live in a group, two houses on one side of a rural road and two houses across the road , there was another house for my Aunt and Uncle when they were alive, now the grandkids are filling more houses.
    My daughter and her family and I share a house, I have my own nice apartment with my own entrance and patio and they all live in the whole floor above me. We love it, I get to see my grandkids daily and my daughter, they don’t have to worry about who is looking after the kids and we both have bigger living space than if we lived separately. It’s the way to go with this economy and so many people lonely. 🥰🙋🏼‍♀️

    we need villages and communities and we've strayed so far from that, and Covid really changed how we think about our relationships and connections with others. I see this being a huge movement forward for many people and an option I hope those who wish to explore it, do :)

      Not all countries are going through the nastiness and hatred that the US is. We can do better. Growing up we all knew our neighbors. People could disagree without shooting each other. The people commenting on this so far realize that and that alone gives me hope. ❤🙏

      It's hard not to feel the world is evil. I feel scared sometimes. But it's the news and social media stirring that pot. It's an endorphin rush to be scared. They feed that rush with specific stories to get views. But the people commenting here are good folks. There are still oodles of good people in America.

  • @Glimmmerra
    @Glimmmerra Місяць тому +11

    It takes special people respectful of or with the same values and world view for that to work longterm. Some commenters make sentimental references to small town life while growing up, but I remember ALL the negatives of how just how incredibly toxic that type of environment can actually be when certain types decide to inflict their will on others and what happens when one person doesn't fit into the group mindset or mold. Just be very careful to *not* romanticize this type of arrangement or any type of communal or living arrangement, especially if any of the persons might be an introvert who needs more time and space for themselves... everyone in the group must respect the needs of each individual.

    My sister always talked about having a compound. But since my husband died and I moved in with her to care of my mother for 5 years I am now so very happy to be living thousands of miles away from her and my other sister. Mom’s gone and I don’t have to pretend to love my family. My boys yes but no compound for me.
    Have fun if you’ve got it and love it.

    Great video, My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. The love of my life decided to leave me, I really love her so much I can’t stop thinking about her, I’ve tried my very best to get her back in my life, but to no avail, I’m frustrated, I don’t see my life with anyone else. I’ve done my best to get rid of the thoughts of her, but I can’t, I don’t know why I’m saying this here, I really miss her and just can’t stop thinking about her

    I want this so bad. This is the goal of the second half of my life-not fame or money, but a sincere group of loved ones. I wish Tiny Houses were more accepted because so many people have huge backyards. There are old RV parks that could translate to darling little tiny house communities. Or, we could buy an old motel and have group BBQs and movie nights. I crave community, but I'm not rich, and neither are most of the folks in my circle. If only the powers that be would soften and see what is possible and what is needed now, not what was needed in the 1950's.

    nice, but not really 'affordable' today. We need the regulations to drop so that people can put alternative housing on their property.. like tiny homes or 4 plexes. Most places do not want these types of homes. It's a necessity now, not a phase.
