I like your join method. I feel like, depending on the look you are going for, having the chain side on the outside could look good.

I'd suggest adding a couple of rows going from bottom right corner thru neck down to bottom left corner. Or you could even skip the neck area. Just to close in the front a bit more. Otherwise very cool.
