Literally nobody uses a brush like you, Danica. It’s so darn inspiring!

Use a small staywet palette and your gouache will stay moist w/out the spray bottle and will keep moist for weeks, no more wasted paint.

Hullo Danica, I have been looking at getting back into gouache so I suppose that is why your video popped up for me to watch! I am not subscribed and I am going to go check out some of your more recent videos, since this one is 2 years old! Several comments have already mentioned the stay wet palette to save your paint. I suggest that you try not mixing mediums so divergent! Try regular gouache with watercolor they work much better together, I used to use Jet Black from Turners to get those deep blacks for really dark darks! I believe acrylic-gouache is Matt acrylic paint. Golden’s So-Flat is the best of that particular medium if your looking for that. I did enjoy watching this video and I hope to see more of your amazing artworks in the future. Please take care, be safe and enjoy your day!

I love your artwork, Danica. May i recommend a StaWet palette to use with your acryl gouache. It is a game changer that keeps the paint moist without watering them down

Sta-wet palette is very helpful! 😉

Thanks for this! It’s something I’ve been wanting to do myself, but I haven’t succeeded in a way I’m happy with, with the exception of white highlights

Very cool! Beautiful illustration as always!
About the tip: You could also just make yourself (or buy) a wet-palette. They get sold as Sta-Wet palettes and other fancy names, but the principle is the same. I like the misting trick, but nothin beats a wet-palette for me with gouache and acrylics.

About black parts at watercolor pieces: maybe Poska pens will work for you? I saw artists using it for like everything, they are fully opaque and don't shine I think.

It just further proves to me that people are born with this talent. I've tried to paint something from my brain and not paint from a picture and I just don't have that gene. Bravo to you. I get enjoyment out of painting from a picture though.

If you want really black black, the Turner Acryl Gouache *Jet Black* is the way to go. It’s blacker than the Holbein and less chalky. You get a deeeeep saturated black with the Turner that you can’t get with Holbein

Great work! It appears you're using acrylic gouache. I recently purchased some thinking it was traditional gouache but realized once I started using it, it was definitely different. Not being able to reactivate the paint once it was dried was frustrating for me. I usually use watercolor and I wanted to try gouache for the same reasons as you. I did paint a successful pinup with the acrylic gouache (but it destroyed my watercolor brushes in the process, definitely dont reccommend using your good watercolor brushes with acryl gouache) I did get some traditional gouache a couple days ago and I love it so much more! I love being able to reactivate layers and blend tonal values on the page with the layers underneath just by slightly re-wettng it. In terms of wasting paint with acrylic gouache look into a sta-wet pallet, It's helped so much and keeps the paints wet for a couple weeks.

Oh. Don't squeeze the actual tube. Open it and dab the palette. Let gravity help a bit. You'll get small amounts that way.

I really enjoy your videos and you talking about your process and trying things and the art you create! If you want an alternative to try for dark blacks, I have used both Liquitex and Speedball acrylic inks for washes and solid black areas on many projects. I have even used them for panel lining on plastic model kits. I find them to be very versatile and affordable.

Thank you so much! I love the pursuit for the perfect set of mediums! I've used those inks for inkwash art, that's a great idea to use them with watercolors!

you might like working with high flow acrylics! i've switched from watercolor to colored ink and high flow acrylics because i was struggling with doing darker colors with watercolors. The ink and acrylic doesn't lift once its dry, so it's easy to layer darker colors :)

    • @DanicaSills
      @DanicaSills  2 роки тому

Thanks, that's a great suggestion! I love the idea of the layers not lifting, I hate that about watercolors. I'll definitely try it out!

Hi may I ask what brush and size were you using on the lady sleeping? It appeared to be a thicker size script liner.

Interesting! Am I safe to say that; whatever you can do with watercolor, gouache can do the same (when diluted enough).. But whatever you can do with gouache you cannot do with watercolor..
