    Yes! I want to use them together. I discovered this when a watercolor painting of my daughter and nieces at the beach just wouldn’t come out. I painted it 3 or 4 times. The last time when I still wasn’t happy at the end, I decided to finish it off with gouache. Oh my! I finished it in about 30 minutes and it was so easy. The detail on their faces, hair and clothes just came together beautifully. I left the background and supporting elements alone in watercolor. It seems that painting this way is more intuitive and so much less stressful, at least for me.

      Yes, gouache can also save a failed watercolor painting!

    I actually started out acrylic, then moved to gouache. Then I got involved with urban sketching, which is ink and watercolor. I found that ink and gouache don’t work well together since the gouache covers up the ink. (As a side note, now I find it hard to do a painting completely in gouache after learning to think in watercolor.) I really like this idea of mixing watercolor and gouache together because I could preserve the ink drawing if I apply the gouache judiciously. Great video!

    This was exactly the video I needed! I have been working on a floral watercolor painting and unfortunately some of the colors bled together in a way I didn’t like and couldn’t fix. I tried putting Gouche on top after this video and it’s looking so nice now! Also, always love dripping at the end of a painting too. Thanks!

    Watercolor more or less stains the paper. Gouache is made like watercolor except with the added components of chalk. This makes it more opaque and heavier than just watercolor.

      I'd say that gouache is less soaking in the paper than watercolor from my experience.

    Wonderful ❤ I've just started with gouache and found out that the best way is to do a underpainting with watercolor. I paint landskap.

    I’m curious! I was going to ask you about that watercolor/ gouache layering on cold press vs hot press paper! I know the paper affects how the paints sit on the paper.

    • @CecileYadro
      @CecileYadro  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes there is a difference with the paint on the paper! You can watch this: ua-cam.com/video/S1GZvA-cuSE/v-deo.html

      No, I have never used casein. It's pretty expensive here.
