    I did this recipe about four or five years ago and my family politely swallowed the whole pan in one day. I'm going to try to make it again this year for Thanksgiving. This is the closest recipe that I have found to my grandmother's. Unfortunately I was never able to get it from her before she passed.

    My grandmother loved making banana pudding with me, and we always had the most fun making it! Now that she's gone, though, I'm going to use your recipe to make a banana pudding in remembrance of her. Thank you, Ms. Carolyn, for always filling us with inspiration and giving us the best southern recipes out there!

    No double boiler/boiling...Yaaay!!!! And still the real McCoy Banana Pudding....Love love!!! I can do this!!!!

    • @dreammaker9546
      @dreammaker9546 7 років тому +3

      Rochelle NaturallyLovinMe Oh, you too? I started working over the stove at 6/7 stirring the pudding mixture over the double boiler. I was Mama's little "sous-chef de cuisine" (under-chef of the kitchen). I still have Mama's double boiler exclusively set apart for banana pudding & light custard desserts. My memories play like UA-cam videos when I go into my kitchen. I remember Mama, my aunties (9) and Big Mama (grandma born late 1800's) sharing their dishes with one another. Big Mama started me at age 4 gathering eggs, drawing water from the well, and churning cows milk for butter. I was spared from milking the cow. Lol! Whenever I would go visit an auntie for vacation or holiday visit, I would spend time in the kitchen learning each aunties spin on a favorite dish. When I was older in my 20's, I would visit my aunties but was put in their kitchens to cook dinner for their families.
      I didn't know it when I was coming of age but I knew it when they started passing away that I was so, so, so blessed, honored, and highly privileged to have learned cooking dynamics by these amazingly skilled women. All Queen master chefs in their own right. There is only one of the 9 left. We buried our 108yr old grand auntie (Big Mama's baby sister) last year. When I talked to either aunt on the phone, we still shared recipe meals and what we made for a special holiday or event. The training goes on. And, I cherish every moment with my last auntie. You know, I think I'll give her a call tomorrow and talk about what she's fixing for Sunday dinner & my meal plans. I guess I'll plan an old fashion, down home, N.E. Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana dinner. Mmmm Mmm.

    I do like the pudding recipe itself. We always baked ours in our family so I will use the pudding recipe that will immediately go into my pudding assembly with layered cookies, bananas, and then straight into the oven. We don't put the pudding in fridge before we assemble. :) I do love to see how others do things and it allows for variations in my cooking as well. Wonderful recipe.... :)

    Caroline this is a very nice tip and a unique way to make banana pudding and I am so glad you did not use the box pudding I like the old fashion way making the pudding by scratch and the tips for the cookies or wafers is wonderful thanks a lot for that.

    ABSOLUTE BEST RECIPE ON UA-cam! I don't know where people are getting this soupy, runny, baked recipe from and claiming we're eating that in the south. Im from Louisiana and you BETTER NOT EVER show up with that!
