I don't know why exactly, but I love the cost breakdown videos! Every month I look forward to the one that Jennifer does over on the "gringos on the gulf" UA-cam channel. They travel with a dog so there are some extra costs, but they also drive their own car most of the time and stay in Air B & B type places... So, it would appear that a lot of costs depend on Where you stay, how long you stay there, and amenities. the comparisons are fun because they are Canadians and really seem to love the heat!! Thanks for showing us San Cristobal de las casas. it seems like a climate I would love, especially the pine trees! Even though I love a warm day, I also love cooler nights and fresh mountain air... Kudos on this video!
Thanks Diana. It was a great place to really enjoy the beauty and the weather of a part of Mexico that is very different. The time we were there was very well spent and yes, the Canadians do seem to enjoy the heat more. It is hot and humid here in Huatulco, but we can also see why so many people fall in love with this area.
Love the detailed report. I have to agree with you on the unrest thing. Unfortunately when I was there I got stopped by unregulated check points four times, none of them charged me much but it got tiring having to stop.
That is very unsettling as you never know what to expect. Plus there is the whole expectation to just want to explore the countryside and take in all the beauty that Mexico has to offer. But that also is part of the deal and we just have to all remain cognizant of it and keep our wits about us.
Totally agree with your assessment. I spent a week there and it looks like I took the same tour you did. On the return from the tour there was a roadblock. Locals of a small town placed cement blocks in the road. Our tour guide got out and spoke with them. When he returned he began collecting money from us. Not a huge amount $20p each but it was very unsettling. It was explained to us that the locals were upset that the Federal and State Governments ignore their pleas for help and this was their way of making up for that. I was just happy to pay the $20p and be on our way! We also stopped in Chipa de Corzo. While there I checked out the church in the town square. I was fascinated to see that it was a mixture of Christian and native. People were brining in animals. There was straw strewn on the floor. An old woman "dispatched" a chicken and that was about enough for me! Yes a very different kind of place but geographically and culturally well worth a visit.
Yeah Frederick, I would be right there with you. Pay it and go! It is sad that it has resulted in this type of interactions, but they are doing what they feel they must. Just want to be nowhere near the area if we can help it. We loved the city and are so glad that we went and got to experience it as that is what this grand tour is all about. Thanks.
We loved san Chris, David thought it was too cold. We spent a little more than you but we ate out a lot. Definitely one of our cheaper cities. I'm interested to see what you guys think about Huatulco.
It was a little chilly, but having just left the heat of Tuxtla, it was a very welcome change. It was a perfect place to sit and recharge the batteries though. Huatulco is fantastic, but HOT!
You guys did pretty well in San Cris! It was nice seeing your place again and part of the boat tour. It's a shame that Chiapas is such a poor state and has the problems that it does, it has such beauty.
We do expect to see that place again at some point. We totally loved relaxing there. It is a very different place and yes, Chiapas does have some of its own issues. Thanks Cindy
Sooo, just read article that FEMSA will be taking establishing OXXO’s in Texas and New Mexico. BTW: I also felt the discordant sensation when I visited Chamula. If you want mountain air and cool weather during the summer try Durango, Durango. You can take a two hour bus down to Mazatlan and spend the weekend on the beach.
Mazatlan is on the itinerary and it will be fun to get a little north. The heat here in Huatulco is about the only thing stopping us from putting down roots right here. Love the vibe of this place so much.
I am disappointed to hear that it doesn't sound like the most stable place to live, because the climate and the forests sound just amazing to settle in. Also had questions about vitamins in Mexico, as I have always taken a fistfuls of vitamins ( yes Centrum) and supplements for years and years, but I will ask You Guys during the next Livestream. Stay safe and well!
Yeah, that was disappointing because everything else about San Cristobal was great. We would never live there for a variety of reasons, proximity to an airport, hospital and a few others, but damn if it isn't a great place to relax and unwind. Fire away about the supplements on Wednesday's live, Gina is always trying to find them. See you then.
Please tell me the name of the cream you used to help with your arm, as I have Arthritis and will be spending the year in Mexico starting in October. I would appreciate that very much…thanks!
It is called Indaflex. Wonderful stuff. And it works quickly for me. Gina has not had as much success with it on her achilles tendon with it, but for my arthritis it is the bomb. Much, much better than Volteren or Pennsaid. We have found that Ahorro farmacia tends to keep it in stock. Similares has been hit and miss as it is name brand. Try it out and if it works for you, take a stockpile home with you.
@@GringosRUsThanks so much Mark. I’ll definitely look for it. I’ll let you know how it works. Volteren can be hit or miss for me, so am looking forward to trying it. Really appreciate you getting back with me…
The normal pharmacies in Mexico, especially the Yza, are, in my experience, much cheaper than the Farmacia Similares and Farmacia Ahorro. My medication is over 5 times more expensive in both Farmacia Similares and Ahorro.
We have had the opportunity to utilize all three of them. We have found that it sort of is dependent upon what medication that you are needing. But all of them are so much less than what we would be spending in the US.
It is still very high on the list. We are looking forward to our time in Oaxaca city. Hopefully it will be cooler than what we have experienced here in Huatulco. Lots of things to love about this place, but that heat is something else.
@@GringosRUs I am excited for your Queretaro report. I was to be there by September and have been delayed by the unexpected death of my young brother in law. However, QRO has all the amenities I am looking for and they are welcoming my dog.
@@dlwilliamson5644 We are so sorry for your loss. We did Queretaro before and are returning just because we need a break from the constant traveling. Thanks for watching Gloria. Yes, we should have done more upfront research. And yes, San Cristobal is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there in the city. The proximity to that type of activity just made us a little uncomfortable. We know what works for us and we can only share our opinions with everyone. We will stay safe here in this wonderful country. Thanks again.

Great info, as always.
Thanks, glad that you liked it.
Seems like a perfect getaway when it's too hot in Guadalajara in the spring.
It would definitely be perfect for that Andy. We actually do plan to go back sometime and enjoy that cabin again. It was sooooo peaceful!

There are lots of OXOs in San Cristóbal.
So true, we were in quite a few of them. Chemula was the town that had the OSSO instead of the OXXO stores.
