Does it make me a bad person to wait until later down the line, maybe when the game goes down in price and all the glitches are fixed, to buy it? I think that's just being smart with my money.

Re: The Mario Kart thing - it's competitive, but the players who are in the last places get a boost, players who are not skilled enough can turn on an "assist" that won't help them win against super skilled players but will prevent them from constantly crashing (a good mode for playing with your kids if you have any), and the blue shell always hits whoever is in 1st place. Those are some of the things that make the game addicting and interesting. I'm sure from there you can figure out what scaling out to broader economic models would mean.

Hey falcon, about the Mario kart economics, what they mean is how mystery boxes give better tools to those that aren't doing so well, and weaker tools to those in the lead. Basically, if you are broke, you are in last. The mystery box is now the government. Every so often the government gives you something to improve your standing. However, if you are doing super well, you get less useful tools as you are in first. This helps with the poverty issue by slowing down the person in first and speeding up the person in last, thereby tightening the pack.
If Day's Gone sells like crazy, there would be a sequal. Yes, 1st party titles are investments for pushing the brand forward, but Games Sold are what dictate if those games are/were worthwhile investments to begin with.

That part about beating all the high scores makes me wonder if the person left a Switch in the park or a collection of 80's and 90's arcade cabinets. Even if someone wanted to school me, they'd have a hard time finding games I own/care about that keep scores. I can't even think of any friends or family who play games that focus on high scores.

In the case of Brazil, half of the point was missed there: it's not for protecting the children, but because in Brazil the state has a monopoly on gambling. When I was a kid and lived there I had no problems having access to state-sponsored gambling. Nowadays the control is a little more strict, but even if a person under 18 can't participate, they can win. Recently (2018) an 11 years old teenage got a jackpot in a lottery ticket and a judge ruled she should receive the prize.

The best part of the EA rebuttal was them referring to a US judge throwing out one case and saying “see, it’s not gambling”, but not mentioning the many nations, that have already or are actively looking at banning loot boxes. Like Brazil which you mentioned.

Far too often when I hear someone say "Their heart is in the right place." I have to ad "But they have their head stuffed so far up their ass that they are dying of asphyxiation." and a quick look at the text shown on screen when talking about that leads me to believe this is indeed the case here as well.

Hey falcon, about the Mario kart economics, what they mean is how mystery boxes give better tools to those that aren't doing so well, and weaker tools to those in the lead.
Basically, if you are broke, you are in last. The mystery box is now the government. Every so often the government gives you something to improve your standing.
However, if you are doing super well, you get less useful tools as you are in first.
This helps with the poverty issue by slowing down the person in first and speeding up the person in last, thereby tightening the pack.

If Day's Gone sells like crazy, there would be a sequal. Yes, 1st party titles are investments for pushing the brand forward, but Games Sold are what dictate if those games are/were worthwhile investments to begin with.
