I'm right handed and chose to use my strongest hand on the record so that I had more control over the movement of the vinyl and the tone of the sounds. My left-hand is certainly not as quick on the crossfader as my right hand but I was more interested in developing control rather than speed. However you choose to learn, it's gonna take time to develop the coordination between your 2 hands. Do what feels right and with enough practice, you can make it work. Best of luck...
Turntablism (like any other musical artform) requires original thought, and isn't just about replicating someone elses ideas. I feel that 4 or 5 examples for each technique (plus the freestyle demo at the end of each video) is enough to illustrate the pattern possibilities to help people go ahead and develop their "own" ideas and style. Think of these tutorials as a starting place, so take what you've learned from me, hit the turntables, and throw some of your own ideas into the mix...
Greatest tutorial scratching playlist available on UA-cam. Mad respect to you man. Thanks to your detailed tutorials I'm improving on my skills, even if slowly.
Great toturials, man. I've learned so much from you in just a days of constant training. I don't believe there are many DJs out there who are able to share their knowledge in the way you do. keep 'em spinning DJ-Sonic's
I have been trying to get this scratch right for a while, gave up after a few days, after watching this I was able to do a pattern in an hour, your the man! Thank you!
I have been a digital cdj dj for years but i had just picked up some technics 1200 and some sounds and these vids have been helping me out alot! Thank you brother!
Best chirp tut I've seen. I've had this cut on lock, 'cause I do 'em all the time, and that being said, you explained and demonstrated it perfectly. Gave me some pattern ideas, too. Peace.
I always enjoy these lessons. I am actually interested in seeing some transition scratches, going from one hip hop song to another one with scratching. Hope you can find time to post a tutorial
Great tutorial. Couldn't have explained it better. I love your videos even as someone who has been in the game for awhile, it's nice to watch how other DJs practice and perfect their craft.
I love this dude. I learn a lot from his videos. I practice and practice and I return to these videos to see if I'm doing it right. Thank you, sir. Salute.
Hello, I taught myself to scratch and never really had any formal tutorials. These are awesome videos and I can't wait to sit down and watch em all and to try them out once I get a decent scratch mixer. My only question is that I have always chirp scratched but opening the cross fader while pushing the record forward. Not starting with the fader in the middle and turning it off while pushing the record forward. Do most scratch DJ's do this? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Mate, your a legend! I actually created a youtube account to subscribe to you! I couldn't understand how you do this with just one movement, until now I have started with the fader open and it's meant I could not do this very fast. I'm slowly getting it now though, I love the way you describe things - keep up the good work!
great congrats! awesome! but is it really AT THE SAME TIME? if I try it at the same time obviously i lose some sounds, thanks for sharing, this is really complicated! LOL !
It takes a long time to get them on lock, as well as achieve the high(er) pitched sound. Like DJ Angelo said, do 'em slowwwwww for awhile, if not longer, it makes a serious difference. I tried to go fast when I learned them, but I never got them down until I went mad slow for awhile. Slow funked up chirps sound dope though and build serious control. Good luck.
Nuh no worry bout your mistake... The real deal of videos are scratching not locations..me are from Colombia.. Yours tutorials are better than qbert's, and the camera up to the decks are the Best. A hug 2 u man..!
Is your fader hand resting on the mixer? I have increased speed and accuracy when I do this but I want to make sure its not going to impede me later. Please answer my question Dj Angelo. Thank you.
good videos... on the chirp scratch is the fader set to scratch mode or mix mode..because i dont get the same sound??? im a rook...sorry if thats a dumb (?) ...
I found your video helpful and I have been messing around changing to my cross fader to hampster, but I am wondering if the fact that I am using a NS6 controller and not vinyl like you will make a difference. Can you DJ Angelo do this on a controller as well????
there is a major difference in feeling between vynil and a controller, but the movements are the same. A controller that has a smooth fader and a platter that rotates weather vynil or not should result in same results. The problem you may encounter with a program such as serato or traktor is the latecy of your cpu. it should feel as natural as possible. hope that works Roan Smith
Are you lefty, DJ Angelo? I'm using my right hand as recordhand, and i've learn a lot from your tutorial so far. I'm not lefty.. Will that be a problem when the time for learning crabs and stuff will come? A lot of people tell me to use your strongest hand on the fader.. Should I keep on doing what feels best, or switch up?
@Kim Erikssen hi I know I’m 11 years late replying but I just came across your comment now. In one of his early videos he said he’s right handed. Peace ✌️
hi angelo i have a question, i just realised i have already been doing a kind of "chirp" but maintaining the fader closed, and using my finger to punch in the sound briefly for each "note" instead of leaving fader in the middle and going left then right, is this "wrong" or just a question of preference?
Why is it important on chirps to start with the fader open? Sounds the same to me if i start with the fader closed. After all with good hand control at stopping the record, isn't that almost like "closing the fader"?
you can tell me if I can use the usb Numark TT 1610???? to scratch??? I do not have much money and wanted saver if good idea to buy this product. Thanks for reading!!'m From Argentina in my country is not used scrath but I like their tutorials and want to learn thanks!
Angelo. I find that my fader on my mixer has a 2mm dead spot before the sound cuts in. I am having a very tough time with chirps and I am practicing away. i wonder if that cut off is not sharp enough for me to perform this technique? for example when I move my fader just a hair (2mm) the sound is faint coming in not full . is this a bit of a road block?
I'm right handed and chose to use my strongest hand on the record so that I had more control over the movement of the vinyl and the tone of the sounds.
