Isn’t using the click of the kick to side chain the bass defeating the point somewhat? The idea of side chaining kick to bass is so the bass gets out of the way of the kick, if you’re only using the transient of the kick to shift the bass, that would mean a lot more of the bass frequencies of the kick are still clashing with the bass - creating muddiness…
The click means that you can have a shorter and tighter signal that rather than subjecting to the length of the kicks sub. With the click you can always change the release to your hearts desire. That way you have the best of both worlds
