I love my BK7! I did the same thing with mine, only I have a Rosewood handle.Stripped the coating and got a leather sheath for it. Both the 7 and 9 are great knives.
Chopping out of camera view my friend. I own the BK-2 and personally I was not a fan seemed to be a thick 5 inch 2 pound crowbar with an edge so I’ve stayed away from the BK line all together though this BK-7 seems to be better with the longer blade it justifies the thickness and weight more.

The BK2 is made from 1/4" thick stock, where the BK7 is made with thinner 3/16" stock. It cuts way better than the thick chunky BK2.
