We have ten work trucks like that one. No rust on any of the cabs or frames. Its always the beds that go bad. Starts at the hinges. We removed the beds to blast away the rust. Didn't work out very well. We recycled the beds. We installed steel flatness and aluminium cabinets on top and underneath. We used stuff plastic fenders. Now, no rust. Its expensive but worth the money when we sell them. We also installed headache rollover bars. Repainted the 1972 c20 396 v8 400 turbo gearbenders o/d rebuilt rear limited slip 355 new susp. F and r. Holley inj. New w/tires. Lighting new seats console autometer. We didn't know how it would turn out much less sell. We put it out next to the road with a sign that read: highest bid wins this truck and yes, there is a reserve attached. We sold it and the same guy wants 4 more trucks. Now that's how you do it.

Brings back memories. I drove an old C20 for years. Near same set up. 350, no A/C, 4 speed. I had factory duel tanks holding a total of 40 gallons. Needed it for the 10 mpg! You can't kill that truck! BTW I suspect it has the cast iron 4 speed trans like mine had. Yes 1st is not scynro. Don't need to use it unless your pulling out tree stumps or climbing mountains. Later models labeled the shift knob with an L rather than a 1. It will pull anything you hook to it. I remember mine had 16.5 "tube type" tires. Had to run inner tubes cuz the wheels were not made for tubeless tires. Smart change over to 16 tubeless. Enjoy!

I had one of those back in the 80's. It had a bad radiator so I filled it with water every day, when winter came, I drove it to work and back every day without any coolant, work was only about 2 miles away. The next summer I bought a radiator so I could go on a trip. That truck ran forever but it totally rotted away from the damn salt. The cab was so rotted that one of our barn cats got in through the rot hole and helped herself to my tuna sandwich.

I bought an old '69 Chevy C30 stepside. It was an old County Truck with a 327, two barrel and 4 speed. I bought it to tow my '62 Chevy II race car to the drag strip. The first trip, it smoked like a pig, used 2 quarts of oil and overheated towing uphill. I looked in the Recycler and found a disassembled 350 long block for $500. Forged pistons, .30 over and a machined block. It even came with all the bearings and gaskets. I assembled the engine using a Comp Cams Extreme Energy RV Cam, Edelbrock Streetmaster manifold and Hooker Headers. I replaced the clutch and reconditioned the radiator. First trip towing with the new motor, She ran cool, used no oil and I could pass people going uphill. That truck towed better than my new 96 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 360.

I know I've put this in your face before, but my wife and I are so enamored with the two of you,... We are trying to find a decent J20 to restore in hopes to take our Grandkids out camping... we show them what we hope to accomplish and they tell us, "talk to the garage, maybe they can find one"... Honestly, my grands just LOVE seeing a loving couple project together. My wife and I will find our tow rig, and if you will, keep giving our grands hope...

My brother and I had almost the same truck (my dad’s originally). It was a 1970 3/4 ton GMC. Those floor shift 4 speeds were creeper gears in first gear. We started our masonry/ house moving business with it forty years ago. That truck was tough as nails. we used to put a full pallet of cement blocks on her (90 at 35 pounds each), plus a quarter yard of mason sand and three or four 100 # bags of mortar. Sometimes we skipped the sand and mortar and squeezed two pallets full of block instead.

That sort of transmissions, at least here in Mexico, we call it "reinforced 1st". It's got a very low ratio so the truck can take off a little easier when fully loaded. When driving normally, just take off from 2nd, just like you did.

I have a great idea for the truck... sell it to me. lol.. My dad owned one just like it, with the exception of his was a blue 1970 and had a 454 in it. Other than that, it had the same work bed on it and everything. But when I got my license in 74, I drove that thing all the time, and just loved it. Some people see fancy cars with big engines and think that's the ideal thing, but to guys like me that grew up in the construction business, this is life, with fond memories. I happened to click on one of your videos today, and when I heard you talk, I knew you two were a fellow Texans. And yes, it was the word "yall" that gave it up. Great video.

Jamie Round The truck is worth that but it was half of that! I’m calculating all our expenses total to make the trip and produce the episode! Initial purchase price, fuel cost for Wayne’s truck there and back, Garfield’s fuel burn, hotels and we actually paid an editor to cut this one- which is super exciting!
Certainly, freeing up my time for other tasks in the biz isn’t free though! 🙏🏼😇 It’s all good, just have to invest in the dream ♥️ it’s why we appreciate each of YOU so much!

The 350 motors were the best.
First car was a 76 mercury cougar and I could not kill the motor.
    Ran great.
    Minimal rust.
Rising gas prices in 1991 and 1992 and my parents talked me into getting a POS car.
Just wish over the years that I would have kept the Cougar.
Introduced by watching Josh with his Hilux truck.
Good vibes seeing everyone come together.
    Love the videos.
    Godspeed on your future endeavors.

That's a nice looking solid truck. My baby is a 1969 chevy 3/4 ton four wheel drive, manual transmission. And now has a vig block and disc brakes in the front. Your transmission is most likely a SM465. Your rear end looks like a HO72. Both my 69 and my 72 suburban have that rear end. Be careful they don't make ring and pinions for them any more. I know this for a fact. I broke my 69 and the shop could only get used in a 4:56 ratio which is what my 69 has. Our suburban has 4:11 gears and my wife broke it. No used set of that size. So I had to find a corporate 14 bolt and adjust the spring pirches. It's still parked with broke axle under it and new axle next to it. I forgot to check gear ratio of the new axle and I couldn't drag it through the dirt to get it under the suburban by myself. One of these days it will be running again. Good luck with your new Garfield.

Emily, was so cool to see you doing spots for Peters! Made my wife come in the room where I promptly told her “l watch her on UA-cam!”. She wasn’t quite as excited about it as me.... 🤷‍♂️

Tip one, HEI conversion( I just tie a new 12 ga wire in at firewall connector by passing inline resistor) and , dial in 14-16 initial timing, get curve kit, leave stock weights and make sure of no worn parts. Then hook up vacuum advance to manifold vacuum. You may need to tweak initial up or down couple degrees. Depending on engine size and condition and cam the Vortec can handle initial timing from 12 -18/19 degrees. Stock weights/light springs give fast enough curve to get better power and mileage.

More on this car!! Love CarfieldTheCar ❤️. I wish I could have a truck as well. Good memories on my square body 2wd 1980 Blazer 🥰 what an overview and relaxed ride. This looks very similar from a ride point of view.

Turning Rust style shop truck with a crazy lumpy cam big pipes air bags whitewall tyres and all the old school shop logo's and then use it for all the car events you guys go to. I has all the space you will ever need for your tools and gear just put a slide out canvas roof with sides on it and you have a work bay/tent where ever you go. Hehe Gar-field unit 1....!

Emily is every petrolheads dream girl .second is for normal starts first will pull anything . Lovely old worktruck . Probably worked hard and looked after well. I have always loved that locker back style. What the paint needs is a wipedown with some old engine oil and leaving alone .
