  • A viewer reached out asking for help with their hard to start when warm KLX110. If the bike runs great in other cases, a hot starting issue is often related to the valves.
    Here is a complete walk through of the inspection and adjustment process as per the Kawasaki Service Manual with some tricks to avoid special tools. Don't let valves scare you away on these 110 bikes, it's a fairly simple job and hopefully this helps you gain some confidence in what needs to be done.
    The allowable range for most KLX110 valves is 0.04 - 0.08mm and is the same for both intake and exhaust valves. There are only two valves in this system.
    The torque specs for the 8mm cover bolts are all 46 inch pounds.

    Great tutorial not only for klx110 but other similar engines!

    As someone with almost zero motorcycle maintenance experience except for oil changes this was a great video.
    Whenever I look up reviews people always talk about valve adjustment for maintenance and I never know what they are talking about.
    Question though, is there a value for each piston? That may be a stupid question I have no clue.

      Thanks man!
      Yes, there would be at least one intake and one exhaust valve for each cylinder. Some bikes will have 4 total per cylinder

    Great video! I have a question about my 19 klx110, when my bike gets to riding temperature when I come to a stop and the bike is idling it sometimes will drop to a lower idle for about 5 ish seconds. The bike is still newish to me just did oil change and spark plug and it seems to be a bit better but I was thinking it would be the idle jet? Also sometimes when it’s the same temp it’ll be ticky would that be a sign I need to adjust my valves too?

      Thanks for the kind words! A fluctuating idle like that can be the idle jet, but it could also be the air/fuel screw, or a vacuum leak, or the valves. I'd hate to suggest one without seeing it in person, but with as easy as these valves are I'd definitely have a look at the tolerances.

      @@alexdombi-weridetwo okay thank you very much I’ll look into that, this is my first carbureted bike do you have a video about adjusting the air fuel screw or any carb work?

      @tysontupper6733 not on the klx, but I did do a couple videos of a ttr50 with carb issues. The klx is actually easier than the ttr to work on :)

      It's very likely the cam chain tensioner then.

      take the cam chain cover off and feel if your cam chain is loose it should be pretty tight, I had one go bad and my current bike is starting to tick so I am about to go check it

    Does it make a difference if you have a exhaust and intake ?

    • @alexdombi-weridetwo
      @alexdombi-weridetwo  3 місяці тому

      If you mean the specs of the clearances, no. Neither will make a difference.

    Do aftermarket heads follow the same specs?

    • @alexdombi-weridetwo
      @alexdombi-weridetwo  4 місяці тому

      It's probably very close, but definitely best to check with the manufacturer of the head to be certain.

    What about issues with idling when cold. Bike runs fine when warm. Have been thru the carb and cleaned in ultrasonic cleaner with new factory jets.

      Will it run with the choke on?

    • @natewallis3885

      @alexdombi-weridetwo not when cold. Acts like slow jet is clogged but its good tried a 40 and 42 same thing. Once it's warmed up it idles just fine.

      @natewallis3885 interesting. Have you checked the valves? It's not likely- but possible and a simple check.
      How's the spark plug? Air filter? New fuel?

      @alexdombi-weridetwo valves are why I watched this. I'll look at them next. New clean filter and good clean 91 ethanol free. Thanks for your time and thanks for the good video

    • @alexdombi-weridetwo
      @alexdombi-weridetwo  Місяць тому

      It could be the cam chain tensioner needs to be reset. Unfortunately, I don't have a video of that.

      My kids are short, so I have shaved the seat for them to be able to touch the ground 😂
      I have a regular height one for when I ride it. Good eye though!
