Massive thank you to everyone who’s been watching this video 🙏🏾 Also, shout out to those who’ve took time to suggest how I should back up my data, you’ve been really helpful 🫡
just a headsup around september time of each year is when they release new devices like the m2 from m1 so if you plan on upgrading in future wait until middle of october or end of october to see the latest options that way you will have latest at time of purchase and wont be outclassed within a month by a new device
Yea, I’ve learned the hard way lol. Cheers for the heads up tho, much appreciated.
Excellent review, very helpful as I am planning the same upgrade for my music studio, great to see your enthusiasm for this exciting creative machine. Thank you.
Cheers Colin. Definitely worth the upgrade, just make sure you’ve got the specs necessary for your workflow.
Cheers for watching
You answered many real user questions, thank you for your time and thoughts. Take care
No problem at all, happy to help. Take care, and cheers for watching
Top review, man! Really enjoyed it, ta.
Preciate your feedback bro, and thanks for watching!
dont waste money on a mac display. Buy a samsung qled TV. Its amazing. I actually use a 75 inch as aan all in one solution. Still cheaper than thos mac displays and it hass all the component's for a perfect monitor experience. Sharp text. No blur of the mouse.
Will look into the Samsung, sounds like a good option. Cheers for the heads up, and thanks for watching
One could also get a 42 inch touchscreen monitor for $1700. It’s like having a Raven. 🎹♥️
Thanks for that honest and detailled review.
No problem at all. Thanks for watching
Love your videos, would love to see some mix breakdowns now you have a new computer 🤧
Preciate that, means a lot. Got some I’m working on, they’ll be out soon.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
Yh man this mac is criss for music production! Mine is on route! Will be uploading some Logic Pro mixing videos soon to!
Keep up the work bro! Subbed 👊🏼
It sure is. Makes the process run smooth. Good luck with the Logic Pro videos, and thanks for the support 👊🏾
I do have similar but with the Mac M1 ultra, and now processing AI the fan turns on for a long time, thinking of M2 Ultra but better wait for M4 ultra
Hey, I like your video just got my M2 Ultra Mac Studio fully maxed out. Redoing my Studio because of it.. 😂
So part of your video you were asking about backing up your SSD the best way that I used to back my drives including my operating system is a program called Carbon Copy Cloner it will make a mirror image of you Drives you can either make a image of that drive or you can make a bootable drive so that if your system goes down, you can just plug in your new SSD or hard drive rebooted it and then restore that drive back to your new hard drive or computer. it’s especially good with all the audio plug-ins that we have to install to our DAWs it’s a real pain to re-install all of them again… depending on the size of your drive. It’ll take a while to back up the first time but every time you back up afterwards it’s only going to write the new files so it won’t take as long depending on how often you back up… you can down load a free copy of carbon copy cloner, but even if the time expires, you can always expand it and it’s the full working version… been using it for years and save my ass a few times.
Well, I hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Hey, nice 1 on the new Mac, fully maxed out sounds like a beast! I missed out on the M2 not knowing it was about to be released, so gotta make do with M1 lol. Gonna look into CCL, someone else recommended that, seems like the right solution for me.
Preciate you watching my video, and the heads up on CCL 🙌🏾
@@kcsounds yeah, I’ve been saving up ever since the M1 Studio was announced. I’m glad that I waited they fix the ProRes Transcoders & finally upgraded to the HDMI 2.1 and the upgraded Bluetooth… No problem, I’m glad I could help. Can’t wait to see more of your videos and you’re right, the waiting time for shipping on a custom Mac Studio is ridiculous… it’s getting a little better three weeks now but still a wait…
Great video KC! I’ve been waiting for years for an upgrade and I tend to wait longer because of certain chips not working with certain things and some newer chips are less powerful than the previous ones which is weird. Not only did the price scare me but the ports. There isn’t enough on the 16 inch laptop so I keep on waiting. For the SSD problem most people get another SSD and back up your old SSD to the new one.
Thank you bro. The madness is, M2 has just come out so my M1 could be seen as old lol. But, there’s always gonna be upgrades and new chips, so trying to keep up with the newest will cause headache 😂. Hopefully they’ll sort the ports on the laptop, why not get a hub? Yea, that’s a good idea about the extra SSD, I did want something that I could set up and do it automatically tho. I think there’s a way, but if not, I’ll just run with the extra SSD.
Thanks for watching dude 🙌🏾
@@kcsounds no problem bro keep up the great work
@@kcsoundsy it baby Brother suggested I get the M1 macbook and said I'd be good for 7 years minimum and he didn't steer me wrong. I Iove it. No fan noise and zero issues with it. Can get a used/lease trade in one for about $800.00 last time I checked and that's a steal imo
For your backups and/or bootable usb drives I would go with Carbon Copy Cloner. Backups are quick and easy from all drives to all drives and can be bootable as well. I use it for years. So when your SSD crashes, you can boot from your backup or you can restore your backup in no time. My recommendation . AND you can try it for free for a month...
This seems like the way to go. Will definitely use CCC. Thanks for the heads up, and cheers for watching
@@kcsoundsI would recommend also the beautiful software as alternative to carbon copy cloner Named SuperDuper, it works simply and very secure!
Great review mate. Well done from a brother from AUS. cheers Patrick H
Thanks brother, Preciate the feedback. Big love to AUS
Nice video. Where did you get the stand for you Monitor and speakers?
Cheers. All DIY, IKEA and Amazon. Check out my storefront for inspiration: amzn.to/41hQIn9
My man, this was a great video. Would you still recommend the m1 max studio today for music? I record guitar mainly but want a future proof machine. I'm so confused as this is my first mac, it's like learning a new language so many options aswell I'm paralysed 😂 sorry for the generic question but hope you can answer. Cheers man, hope you're good 👍✌️🙏
Preciate your feedback bro! Someone left a comment on here saying M1 is actually better than M2 & M3 - not sure how true that is - but, I will say that’s it’s more than enough for my needs. However, the specs I have aren’t the best. My advice would be to get the right specs for your 1st Mac, as this should last you 10+yrs. If you get a chance, watch my video on my regrets on buying my Mac, you might find that useful: ua-cam.com/video/UvLBEiphmQw/v-deo.htmlsi=X1jPFtczLG_Vf_Ab
Feel free to ask any questions, if you need more help. Cheers for watching✌🏾
Thanks brother, 🙏✌️
Good honest video man. I'm after one myself ;)
Thanks man, preciate it. Definitely worth getting, just make sure you get decent enough specs for what you do… I wish I’d got more storage lol.
Cheers for watching
Man I have been having serrrrioussssss issues with my Mac Studio, M1 64g 24 core. ATM I don't recommend it to anyone until some of this stuff gets solved. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this (fresh install) but I feel the second I use soothe2, Fab filter (pro L etc) or Izotopes bundle, the entire project just breaks. Midi keyboard is unplayable unless you use low latency mode (never had to use this on my 2012 Mac Pro), and if I add too many instances of a certain plugin, the side chains all start to lag out of time. Hoping I have a broken setting but is anyone else experiencing this?
That doesn’t sound good at all. Mine seems to be running smooth, with multiple apps and tabs opened, and still able to get the job done. Only thing is, I would’ve liked more RAM and HD space. Will just have to make do for now.
Hope you manage to sort it, and cheers for watching
Sounds like CCC is worth looking into. I’m using (paid) Dropbox which auto backs up external SSD’s.
Cheers for the vid 👍
Definitely the way forward. Cheers for watching
Sir, I’m not their salesman, but what you are looking for (trust me, I did a heavy research, and I’m saving up for one now), is Trebleet Thinderbolt 3 Dock. That’s all you will need, and you can buy ssd and nvme later as money comes in. Cheers!
Thank you for that. I’ll take a look into it. Cheers for watching
This is uncanny because it's exactly the same dilemma I had, 2013 27 inch replacement - chose the Studio, and very happy now.
Great choice mate! Hope it all goes well for you.
Feel free to check out my update video: ua-cam.com/video/UvLBEiphmQw/v-deo.htmlsi=o2iJN4k1J_wobjg6
I got the base m1 studio model. Haven’t really pushed it yet.
It’s a lovely unit. Hopefully it’ll do the job for you, without any problems.
Cheers for watching
Strongly recommend you get at least one extra external drive and use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to regularly mirror your external drive to this. Keep this drive far from your mac so you don't lose it in a fire or theft.
I appreciate the recommendation. Thanks for watching
Hey KC, such a timely video and just what I needed to see:-), so thank you! I have a 2012 Mac mini, which is too slow to do any useful work on,so I have stopped using it and am using my MacBook Pro 2015 Retina Mac, which is a great improvement but sometimes struggles with larger projects. More then anything it is the fan noise that bothers me😫 and the dreaded beach ball😛. So I was looking at the Mac Studio also but think I will go for a 16” MacBook Pro for portability and I already have a 34” ultra wide screen that I can use when I want a bigger screen. I like to be able to work in different places at home on headphones and not necessarily in studio space. Saying that the cost is eye watering, so I am still at the research stage😂🙏🏾. When it comes to your hard drive, I bought two T7 shields as I am overcautious re. backing up stuff!! So I use Timemachine on one drive and backup also using Carbon Copy Cloner on the other drive. Thanks for doing this video and look forward to watching more🙏🏾🙌🏾.
Hey Ria, that’s good to know 😊 I done some research on the Mac Mini and was in 2 minds whether or not to get 1, they seem solid. MacBook is a good choice, I like the idea of not being tied to a desktop and Studio, I spend way too much time sitting in 1 place lol. Will check out carbon clone, preciate the suggestion 🙏🏾
Thanks for watching the vid, and supporting my Channel, it’s appreciated 100% 🫶🏾
@@kcsounds hey, no worries re. Carbon Copy Cloner it’s pretty decent i I trialled it first and then purchased it!
I think I am almost 90% sold on getting the MacBook Pro, after using my older 2015 for some time, it just helps break up the day and offers a fresh perspective if I can listen in different spaces. But Mac Studio looks like an equally good choice too👍🏾Looking forward to seeing more content from you-especially Kali review (the larger ones you mentioned LP8). 🙌🏾Stay blessed🙏🏾.
@@riasure I’ll definitely look into Carbon Cloner. Yea, there’s some good options out there that’ll fit your workflow. Stay tuned for the LP8’s review. Preciate your support 🙏🏾💯
My 1st Gen. M1 MacBook is awesome and very portable imo. I'm using a Scarlett Focusrite 2 port interface. Thing's awesome 👍🏼🥹🇨🇦
@@blindmelonstubbly that's good to know! So sounds like, you have no regrets😀. I take it your using it with a DAW? If you don't mind me asking what spec did you go for?
Very nice setup! Which Samsung monitor did you go with at the end?
Thanks, I appreciate that! I can’t remember the model number. Will check when I’m in studio tomorrow and drop a link.

Its my dream to own this maschine man its hard to write music with limited options
I know what you mean, I’ve been there. Hopefully soon you can get 1. In the meantime try and get the best out of your current equipment.

My biggest issue with upgrading to the mac studio , was with plug in companies like Waves , who want me to buy my plugins again , no thanks Waves , other plugin woes are Izotope killing off R4 and Nimbus reverbs …. Thats a bit shitty … the machine itself though is amazing!
Cheers for your insight, and thanks for watching
Use your old iMac as a monitor for your Mac Studio by installing Opencore Legacy Patch in your iMac. I did it and works great.
That’s a good idea. If I had the space I would do that, but will definitely keep that in mind.
Cheers for watching
You are gonna be so sad if/when that SSD gives out. I hope you're doing regular syncs from the SSD to iCloud.
To your question: Time Machine only backs up specific folders from a Mac. You can only sync the SSD to iCloud - which is not exactly a backup.
Cheers for the heads up
You surely solved the back up thing by now, but can’t you just save it all to iCloud?
I was thinking that, not sure what the Pro’s and Con’s are. Definitely worth checking out though
Better take an external Thunderbolt SSD, it is much faster, than T7.
Cheers for the insight, and thanks for watching
Now that you have a Mac Studio you need a Synology NAS right away. No need all those external SSDs.,
What’s a Synology NAS?
@@kcsounds Hmm I gave a long answer yesterday and for some reason it didn't post. A Synology NAS or any NAS (Network Attached Storage) for that matter will solve your hard drive space and back up issues. You can rid yourself of all those external drive and get a NAS. Simple to set up. You can have as many terabytes as you like based on how many hard drives you put into it. Different units accommodate different amounts all depending on your use and space requirements, budget too. The NAS can attach to your Mac Studio directly via the 10gbE port for fast speeds or you can use a switch and connect the NAS to the internet. That way you can access all of your files anywhere you like and use any type of device with Synology's free apps. Your data is also backed up at the same time and in addition can also be backed up to the cloud or another NAS at an offsite location as a mirror image. Check out videos on Synology DS1522+,. DS923+, DS423+. If one drive fails in the unit you can hot swap to a new drive and lose none of your data. They work really well and the reason I like Synology is that it has a very logical operating system just like the Mac OS. I set up a few of these as a hobby for other people. Hope that helps. Oh, they have great tech support too.
No any testing? just open app so fast…..? wow so surprise me buy this for open APP FAST….. thanks for noting
What do you mean?
I never understand how producers or video editors get away with 512gb of storage.
I have 2tb of just samples alone, and 800gb of software that has to be installed on the main drive.
Wow, 2TB of samples and 800GB of software sounds like overkill lol. Listen, everyone’s needs are different, and there are other workarounds. Like I always say in my videos… do what works for you.
Cheers for watching
@@kcsounds
Native instruments Komplete 14 collectors edition is 1Tb by itself🤷🏾♂️
@@TheDougSpot You couldn’t get that on its own HD?
@@kcsounds
I do, I have a 4tb thunderbolt 3 drive. I’m just saying that 512 is crazy low to me.
I also record at 96khz, and keep all my sessions on my main drive as well.
@@TheDougSpot Sounds like you got it all figured. Good stuff bro

I’m hearing that Mac Mini is sufficient. Maybe, do some more research 1st, before you make a decision.

The number of GPU’s is irrelevant for Audio Production.
Yea, you’re right. I couldn’t upgrade to the newest Davinci Resolve on my old iMac. So, GPU isn’t irrelevant for what I do.
