God bless you and thank you so much, have a blessed day
Many people say not to press down the dirt like you do when filling up the trays I've done both (pressing them and not) and it makes no difference either way for me both times it works just fine it's funny though to see people say opposite things about how to start your seeds.
I love when Nancy shouts out a blessing at the end! :) Folks, I have never seen this done before. These videos you are doing from start to finish are so very helpful. You talk us through it and bring a sense of confidence that we can do it. God richly bless you all!
More to come!
I enjoy the format you use by showing how you plant the seed, show the various stage of growth then the harvest. Thank you very much.
Glad you enjoy it!

I too enjoy this.

Me too! I had no idea just how big these get!
y'all them broccoli leaves are EDIBLE, you can dry them and add them to soups, make chips out of them, chop them up for coleslaw, don't be wasting that good food.
Have you ever thought that not everyone likes the leaves
@Mel in Az I’m Not wasting good food if it taste terrible to us. We use it for our chickens. It is very healthy for them. We have plenty of good tasting vegetables for cole slaw and soups.
they are. i cooked mine and they were delish!!
You guys are doing an incredible thing here. You're teaching the world how to grow their own food and become more self-sufficient. You also remind us that it is the Lord who feeds us. I just love your channel ❤️🐝🌱! Thank you so much! You know, I have learned so much from you two and I see in the comments, there's tons of us that have been inspired by y'all to start doing what God created us to do, grow.
God has been so good to all of us. Thank Him often❤️
Wow! What a great video for a beginner gardener like me. You must have collected footage from a couple years ago to get the whole season in a 28 minute video. Thanks for all the video editing and effort. God bless your family and the work of your hands.
Glad it was helpful! We like to do it this way and it was only a season so that its super helpful for the new gardener to see one video vs 10 videos and put it together. It takes a lot of computer memory and lots of hard work because almost 95% of all our videos are progression. Enjoy!
Just recently discovered your channel in a truely trying time of my life and feel blessed just by watching. God bless you for making me remember "by His hands we are fed"
Wow, thank you
I love that the video goes from seeding to harvest. LOVE the Christian comment. Warms my heart, thank you.
So glad you like our videos ❤️❤️❤️
I love how you take us, the viewer, through the entire growth of the plant. I get a lot from all your informative VLOGS. From Missouri
You are so welcome!
Best thing about your channel is that you actually show the results! Thank y'all for putting these instructionals out!
AND the progression from beginning to end!!
This video is sooooooo important to me. I can never really grow good broccoli.. I'm going to give this a try. Thanks for sharing. Peace
:-)
I can't believe the critters haven't found these. Beautiful!!
What a great find in a gardening channel with folks who believe in the goodness and greatness of the Lord Jesus Christ thanks for your knowledge
Do they? Well, that's always a positive. 🙂
You both are the cutest! I enjoy the information as well as seeing your love for nature, each other and God. ❤️
Thank you so much!
I love you very much. You have a very good family. I am an Iranian who has been a Christian for almost eleven years. Pray for us and our family that God will give me a house and a large farm so that I can grow vegetables. Pray effortlessly I live in Canada
Keep on praying and dreaming. God did it for my family.
Just appreciate your sincere videos, they are excellent and easy to understand. The added plus is your prayer at the end! My Dad was a master gardener, hunter, fisherman and a patriot. Somehow I think I have found in the two of you a similar way of handling life. So allow me to say....be blessed as you have blessed me!
Your Dad sounds like someone I would be friends with. ❤️
I love these videos from seed to harvest! Thank you!
Our pleasure!
I pre-germinate my seeds before I place them in the cells by taking a paper towel, wetting it with rain water, placing the seeds on the towel, folding it over and placing it in a sealable sandwich bag. Then I put them in a warm location and place a magazine or some cardboard over it. It usually only takes about 2 days to germinate. Then I shake them off the paper towel, and place them root first down in a divit I have created in the center of the filled cell. This saves you a few days of wait time on the germination and there is the added benefit that you are planting only seeds which have germinated instead of having wasted and empty cells.
Love the start to harvest format!
More to come!
My wife and I love watching your videos. They are so peaceful and informative. We are believers also. God Bless
I would love to see how Nancy puts up all of this harvest for winter! I'm learning how to pressure can for our family
We will!
Glad you showed brocolli in buckets. Thats great info!
I'm very appreciative. I have a bad back. Containers make it easier to still enjoy gardening.
Glad it was helpful!
@@HollisNancysHomestead wonderful... learnt a lot from this Video... beautiful explanation... God Bless... Dr. Rajini
I like to eat the leaves. I haven’t had a lot of luck forming the florets. Hopefully your tips will get me there.
Florets formation depends on the variety you grow in the climate you live in.
Try different varieties to see which work best for where you live.
I have been watching your videos and have learned so much! I really really and truly appreciate you going from seedling to harvest in one video. You have amazing talent. Thank you.
I am here to learn about planting a container garden in my back yard. I'm hoping to be able to grow plants I can actually eat. I tried my hand at tomatoes last summer and worked on them everyday, watering, weeding, fighting mealy bugs, worms and aphids. I ended up with 6ft plants with lots of leaves and maybe 4 tomatoes off both plants...needless to say it was very discouraging. I got my plants from a nursery and used organic plant food, new soil and staked them. My basil, mint, cilantro, peppers and thyme did very well till our Texas freeze. Now I have to start all over.
Wow, am sooo glad I watched this one. Heard they were "heavy eaters" but had no idea they needed so much! Now maybe I'll actually get some decent heads in my broccoli! THANK you!!!
I’ve always enjoyed and appreciated how your videos are start to harvest. Very helpful
Bing Bing is cute, watching and supervising Hilollis lol
LOL
Love your video's. Your the only one that do progression planting. From seed to harvest and what you should do in between that time. First time gardener, using your ideas to get ready for next year. Would love to see a corn video, tried the year didn't come out well. Thanks for all you do !!!
Thanks, will do!
I have been binge watching your videos over the past weeks or so. Let me just say, you’re the man Hollis! I am constantly learning something new, and you have helped me troubleshoot some common planting issues. I’m a fan!
I agree me too. Everything he grows looks blessed!
Wow, thank you!
@@HollisNancysHomestead I have watched tons of gardening videos yours from start to finish is the most informative yet..thank you
Your hands are definitely blessed to grow food! I love your videos
This is the best broccoli planting video ever..... thanks for the Bible verse..... Amen
Wow, thank you!
I love that you do seed to harvest videos. Thank you!

You guys are so nice! Every year is a fun adventure. Pretty sweet garden spot & such an enthusiastic, 4-legged helper! Thx for all you hard work & love. 👆

I especially appreciate the fertilizer initial and scheduled application. Thanks Hollis!

I'm trying spring broccoli again this year, and I'm hoping for better success than last year. Thanks for the lessons.
This was awesome to watch !
Thanks for watching Linda❤️
I have more confidence to grow broccoli after your video. I appreciate you taking the time to video the whole process!!!
You're more enjoyable than TV! Thanks for your videos, I'm hooked 🙂
I've never had luck with broccoli.... hopefully I will this year🤞🙏 thanks
I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. You gave me confidence to start my garden in buckets and they have been producing great. So thank you again.
That is awesome!
Hi Hollis and Nancys I live in California and I watch UA-cam Channel how do you water in and your garden is clean as a whistle no Weed I love you garden and your podcast system.I am a Korean I herd you wife is Korean I would like to talk to her if possible Thank you so much
I just planted my seeds last week in a 15 gallon smartpot. They're sprouting already, I'm in South Florida, hopefully it's not too hot still, we'll see
You and your wife are the best
Love your videos. Watched them all tje time. God BLESSED you both.
When getting ready to pack soil. You might try stacking one of the other soil filled trays on top of another to pack the soil. It works great.
I haven’t watched you for awhile & I just noticed you & your wife must have moved out to a more rural area because your garden area is so much bigger! Nice !👍😍
Yes, we love our new homestead. We moved here in November of 2017. We have several videos that were released in 2019 & 2020 showing the progress and projects of bringing our new homestead to life. May be something fun to watch when you can’t find anything on TV to watch
You are very organized...your garden looks great....thanks for the video
Fantastic video. I'm growing broccoli for the first time in containers. This was so helpful. I grew potatoes last year with your method. Thank you!
❤️
You know, your channel is the only one that I have come across that shows progression of a crop from planting to harvest in one episode. I love it! How do you keep the little worms out of broccoli?
So glad you like our videos. Yes, we try our best to create videos showing the entire process. It is difficult to create these videos so most UA-cam creators don’t do it. If you are experiencing caterpillars on your broccoli plants spray them with Thuricide BT
Hollis, any tips on pest. What are the most common, and what do you do.
Love your progression teaching videos! I especially love this one, because we can see your entire amazing garden in production mode!!!
Thank you Hollis and Nancy! That was so awesome! I learned so much and I hope to be able to put the information that you taught to good use in my own little balcony garden. Thank you so much! God bless you.
Aww you say “rerned” just like my nanny and poppy ❤❤
❤️❤️❤️
I just harvested some broccoli this am..1st ever I will say. I brought it in the house and my mother says honey it's still growing why did you cut it? Have you seen broccoli in the store its huge! So I am here watching this video and as usual momma is always right. Nice looking broccoli hollis and Nancy.
Thanks for sharing
Your organization feeds my soul.
😂
God bless you and Nancy !
Bing Bing! You cutie ❤️!
❤️🐶❤️
One thing that would be helpful is a time stamp in your videos. So when you plant the seed it would be nice to know the date. Then we could adjust to suit our zone. As you go along another stamp might tell us how many days have passed and how many days are left to harvest.
He did mention in the video, 2 weeks, 2 more weeks, another week, a couple days. He showed us what to look for to determine what stage the plant is in. You really just have to keep an eye on things. They are in Florida so it will be different if you're in a different zone..all you need to do is look up what zone you are in and that also tells you what to plant and when. Hope that helps...blessings.
Good idea
Your BOSS (pup) is making sure you're doing it right
He does LOL
You two are incredible teachers!
Love your accent and thanksgiving prayer. SUBSCRIBING 😺😺😺😺😺😺
Thanks for subbing!
Hollis can you show a video on how to water seedlings!
I love that you show the progression. It's so much more helpful
Broccoli is the best thing I have growing! They are giants. Thanks for all the tips!
Love broccoli 👍👍👍
Your broccoli looks great, how do you keep bugs and worms off of your plants?
Two questions, Hollis. How long did it take, seed to harvest ? Also, would colliflower be about the same time frame ?
Approx 75 days, yes
Thank you for encouraging me to enjoy gardening again.
Amen & thank you both.
Your leaves are so beautiful you never seem to have pest problem how do you manage that?
Pests typically attack sickly plants.
Great video as usual. I Love Broccoli. Do you and Nancy eat the Broccoli Leaves? They are delicious.
It is beautiful just beautiful job well done
I will have to try them myself!
We have, yes. They are a delicious green when slow boiled with some hog jawl
This was awesome amazing visuals and really gives people the idea of how things progress versus just one singular part of the growth stage
Best video I have seen on growing broccoli. Thank you
How do you keep all the critters away from your plants?
This garden is motivation. Something I aspire to have!!
Love watching all your videos thank you and God bless ❣️
I hadn't thought to give my chickens broccoli. I'll have to try that. Here in SoCal, past attempts to grow Brassica family were thwarted by some kind of harlequin beetle looking thing. How do you control insect pests on your homestead?
He demonstrated in another video 2 Tblsp of cold pressed neem oil, 1/4 Tblsp of dish soap and 1 gallon of water in a pressure sprayer, paying special attention to the underside of the leaves then spraying the top leaves till there's run off. He sprays the first time then 3 days later then once weekly till harvest. Don't skip the dish soap, it's an emulsifer(since oil and water don't mix) and helps the neem oil cling to your plant.
@@ForGoodnesSake thank you for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate the formula!
I am all the way south African and l like your videos
Question, how many times does one water their vegetables, is it everyday or should l skip a day?
It varies…vegetables in containers require more water than those planted in the earth. Different plants need diff. amounts of water. The plant itself will tell you by the condition and color of the leaves. Too dry and they shrivel, too wet and they rot and turn yellow. Good luck to you!!
So satisfying to look at the whole process!
Very helpful!!! Thank you and God Bless
Ive found it a profound and confusing thing when a resident manager of our (who was a self proclaimed organic vegan) yet used animal blood and bone meal as well as guanos for her garden. I asked her if she still believed one could be vegan if the plants they grew need animal by products to flourish, she shrugged her shoulders and said she believed so. She also refused to consume honey because it was an animal products, according to her, I tried to reason with her explaining they were in fact insects not animals, but she stood firm in her convictions.
Some people set their minds on a narrative and no amount of facts in the world will change their opinion.
Good day sir! I have a question regarding my seedlings... they appear to be stretching and somewhat leggy, my question is can I up-pot them and bury them up along the stem?
I got the same question. Mine are really leggy and I'm not sure if they are gonna be alright. Guess I'll just go for it and see what happens
@@jasonm887 iburried mine and are somewhat better
@Farmer-red I appreciate the feedback. I'm gonna go ahead and transplant mine into buckets from the seed trays and see how it goes. I'll try to share how it went at the end of the season if I can remember to reply again!
@@jasonm887 all the best!!
What answer did you get mine are doing the same even under grow lights
Love yours and Nancy's videos ❤🙏
Love you both I learned a lot from you both. I am starting now the right soils and fertilizers for my gardening. I thank our God in blessing me with you both. Thank God for both of you. God blessed you both. I only watched your videos! No more other gardeners! Only you both!
I get bugs in my broccoli leaves. How do you get rid of them?
... a mixture of water, mineral oil and Dr. Bronners castile soap in a spray bottle, spray generous and it will not hurt the plant. Or, plant flowers that attract those pesky bugs away from the veggies, that's what I am doing different this year!
I am having trouble with something eating on the leaves of my broccoli and also the leaves of my peas. Will this solution, work on the peas too. I have been using Neem oil, but it hasn’t seemed to stop them yet.😮
Hello I love your videos. Do you harvest your broccoli leaves? They taste wonderful as well.
How do you use them do you just steam them? And add butter?
In the comments above, he said he gives the rest of the plant to the chickens...and they love it!
Excellent video, God bless you both 🙏
Absolutely love your videos!
Hi, which month you plant the broccoli seeds?
I was wondering the same thing. Maybe we’ll get an answer.
Depending on where you live, broccoli is a cool weather vegetable.
If your winters are mild, plant seedlings in early Autumn.
Otherwise plant early in Spring for an early summer crop.
If you want to sow seeds do it indoors or a glass-house to avoid frosts.
Broccoli is not good to form heads during hot weather as
a) it bolts quickly to seed
b) it becomes infested with bugs
In Florida
His tags gave a September date
They ought to teach gardening and home life skills again in the public schools instead of teaching them how they can change their sex! What a waste of the tax payers money! They could also teach foringn languages a little more! Our kids don't evan know how to cook when and if they graduate from high school!!!
So teach them. I know our school just got a greenhouse, but kids still kinda get it wrong, and I had to show my kids how to use spices, cook with onions, bells, etc that I grew so that they can make good recipes. My youngest even makes her own special alfredo sauce now, homemade, and learned how to cook real well! She even bested me on steaks! Gordon Ramsey has videos that show even beginners how to cook. Screw the school system, you can learn a LOT more on youtube videos on all kinds of things.
thank you, you blessed my day.
You guys are such a blessing!!!
Thank you 🙏🏼
No animals, no bugs, no diseases what planet is this on? You must be in the Matrix.
