Thanks for having me Mason! It was a pleasure to play through this rig! 🙏🙏
🥰🥰🥰
I've watched a bunch of your stuff...you've got the VIBE!!! Come out with an album already!
@@theodorek.b.2103 Haha thxs man! Working on it!
I’d started watching this video for fun and I’m glad I did cause I ended up learning a whole lot from it and still had a lot of fun watching it , awesome video !
Leo Cubias Music I’m so glad!!!
Brilliant video Mason. That pedalboard looks sick!
Nice to finally see and hear it. I remember him posting about this board last month.
Andrew VanNieuwenhze thanks for watching
Check for shorts between tip and sleeve when building cables also. It's a quick test and well worth it. You have several good ideas here and I'm sure many players that DIY are happier with these tips! Thanks!
Mark Allen thanks for watching
Wow I just found one of the best videos on UA-cam
Awesome! He said Oakland as in bay area Oakland? Represent! Great info and well done and cleanly executed video on getting that tone and building a proper, clean, and organized rig. Party on!!
This is a must-watch for anyone DIY'ing their pedalboard. I just finished mine and it turned out great. Thank you! I would've blown the audio cables by leaving on the black thermal plastic on the inner wire, had I not seen this.
For the board itself, I took inspiration from my Macbook Air -- I used a router to quarter-round the underside of 1/2" baltic birch plywood, so that it gives a sort of "floating" appearance on the floor. With a varnish finish, it looks really nice. There is quite a time investment in preparing a pedal board, but it's totally worth it because it makes the pedals a pleasure to use.
I’ve had some very good results with Temple board and their screw-in plate system. This was a little more next level. Awesome stuff.
thank you sweetwater xoxoxoxoxo love the pedalboard
Thank you! 💙🤘
Solid little build!
thanks for watching!
Whenever I had that tuner I flipped the bottom plate over without having to remove the rubber.
It’ll depend on the circuit - the Tuner (TU3) has more clearance inside between the main PCB and the bottom of the enclosure because it has no pots on the mezzanine board. On other BOSS pedals, the main board is pushed further back because of the size of the mezzanine board and the potentiometers and you will not have enough clearance to flip over the rubber pad. In effort to create continuity on this technique, I did so that this could be used across all BOSS pedals.
I can't do it on many of my vintage Boss pedals, they won't clear unless the bottom rubber pad is removed. I had some cut at Tap Plastics to fit the bottoms of my vintage Japanese stuff.
I love that T.S. Mini - I still think it's the cleanest, most chimey sounding T.S. ( up-to, and including the Maxon Apex 808 ). Happy Holidays fellas & Stay Safe.
Great Video! Your voice sounds exactly like James Santiago from Voodoo Labs! Good Stuff Mason!!🤘
Hahaha 😂
Nice work and definitely best practices for building a reliable and maintainable pedal board. Love your workflow and organization. I like my power supplies under the board, but I'm a bedroom player whose rig isn't subject to the rigors of the road. One bit of advice that you might have inadvertently omitted - when using a multimeter to check your cables don't forget to confirm that tip to sleeve is open. Murphy's Law guarantees at least one cable will have a short caused by a stray strand of wire or fleck of solder... :-)
thank you
cool
Awesome video! Rig Dr is my hero!
Gabby Bergman is our hero.
Cant wait to win this! (Hopefully)
good luck!
Uncle Mason is the best! Sweetwater is too.
Thanks for the kind words Shawn!!
Best on YT! Best in the BIZ. None of the big guys share their secrets, love this about Vertex/Mason/Rig Dr
Would an substituting the archer for a prince of tone damage the tone you get with the other particular pedals?
What’s the little black box that all the pedals are going into called? Do you have a link for me to buy one?
Same dilemma😂
Y would like to ask you why did you choose the Steel String instead of the SSS?
How do you get that Gibson tone that your using?
what would you recommend for a setup by Eric Clapton ???
i have a question about the interface box. is the instrument cable connected to another effects loop or straight into the amps effects loop? because i assume the interface on the pedalboard is just a normal junction box.
This one is just passive, no buffers, we're utilizing the 1M input on the boss TU-3. The output impedance on the Analog Delay is a bit higher than I'd like but also all the old Mayer Rigs didn't have anything about a 1K output Z on any of the last pedals typically in the JM Trio or earlier days which is the most akin to.
Who makes the amp they're playing through? It looks like it says overdrive special on it
It’s a Fender Hot Deville - the other amp wasn’t used
I’d put the tuner after the drives to keep the buffer out of the gain stages.
Wouldn’t be very “‘Mayer” if the tuner wasn’t first and the 1K output is pretty high for an output impedance and with I think the Klon and the TS also have buffers so the TU3 is only buffer a patch cable before it hits another buffer and you at least get the advantage of the pickup loading being 1M on the Boss unit instead of 470K on the TS pedal, loading down the pickups.
8:45 hurt to watch haha
Could it not have been turned over without ripping off the base?
Can a Zendrive be used in place of the Steel String?
Hi, Nicholas! Thanks for your message, hope you're well and safe.
The selection of what goes on your board is personal to you. The Zendrive is a great pedal. Its response design is different than the Steel String, so results will vary.

Vertex Effects Oh wow !
Finally
Awesome
Luis Hernandez 🥳🥳🥳
Me too...been Jonesing for one since I saw Mason do his DIY version. I'm not handy with an iron so I wanna get a prebuilt one? What say you Sweetwater? Do a Vertex/Sweet exclusive interface box like the Rig Doc?
look up one control on sweet water they have junction boxes and effects loops
Mayers Dead and Co rig set up sounds amazing, why skip over that?
Maybe we will have to build a Dead and Co rig one of these days!
Playing a „budget“ Board (thats how Mason titled it on his channel) through a Dumble is quite ironic… Pretty sure everything sounds great through That thing
Is the steel string used the same way a keeley katana would be used?
Hey, Braxton! Thanks for reaching out. Yes, the Steel String is being used as a clean boost in this setup, which is how you would use the Keeley Katana, as well. If I can help with anything, feel free to reach out.

@@sweetwaterHi Sweetwater and @Vertex Effects Uncle Mason if one were replicating this pedalboard build, would the Keeley Katana mini be needed if the Vertex Steel string is there already? A little confused why the Katana wouldn't be substituting for the the Xotic boost pedal more so than the Steel string as per the above comment. Thanks!
@@michaeln9612 They both have their advantages so it's beneficial to have both on the board. You're right that the Katana would sub for the Xotic more directly because they are both clean boost pedals. The Steel String can be used as more of a clean boost or it can be used in a more colorful way depending on where you set it. While the Katana could sub the Steel String in some situations, I think you're right that it matches up with the Xotic better!

No envelope filter????
PLAY THAT MUSIC
Heck yea!
Wearing a mask in that scenario is absolutely ridiculous. 🤦♂️
Pónganse mascarilla, que ya vale. Ponerse un pañuelo es ridículo.
I was going for the "John Fogerty" look
@@VertexEffectsInc Uncle Mason hahahahah - get a red one for the CCR days!
