- How To Separate Audio In OBS - Games, Music, Discord All separated!
Have you ever wanted to separate your desktop audio into different tracks in OBS? Before now you had to use complicated software like VoiceMeter Banana and virtual audio cables. Not any more! A new plugin can do it all!
Now you can adjust levels on each source and even send some audio to monitor and some to the stream only. It's amazingly powerful!

So funnily enough I was trying to find a solution for this literally yesterday and you happened to pop up. I'm sticking around because this channel strikes me as an essential channel moving forward. Much needed and appreciated my guy!
Thanks! Glad to help.
Videos are ALWAYS the best, and have the MOST clearly explained instructions in them, as well. Used them to help my streams so much, over the past year. Thank YOU!
Michael, as always, a mastermind in troubleshooting and tipping us with valuable information. Thank you very much. And this method also simplifies recording with multiple audio channels to have them separated for editing.
I've been struggling with this issue for days now and I am so thankful that I found your video! I watched over five hours of different videos over this and I even installed what they were all telling me and it ended up crashing my computer and I had to hard reset it. (DO NOT INTALL VB CABLE!). I appreciate that you are putting videos out like this! Keep of the good work!!!!!
Glad to help
I got bad audio issues with voicemeeter also
I have been pulling my HAIR out trying to figure out how to remove my discord audio from my streams but still be able to hear it in my headphones. You're a lifesaver! Thank you SO much. Liked and Subbed!
Even though I barely stream lately your video casually popped off in my recommendations. And I decided to stop by and watch it for a bit, and I already had this plug-in installed and working.
But your editing made me stay a bit longer :)
As an editor myself I can definitely say that you spent a lot of time doing this video. And i absolutely love SFX and VFX work here.
I'll drop my sub for you, keep up the great work!🦉
Thanks you! My editor is amazing.
Omg thank you! I spent forever looking for something like this! I just wanted to stream and listen to music without having the music be super loud on the stream and this worked. Every other video I saw explaining how to use the plugin was complicated and I didn't understand why they were doing what they did but this actually broke it down well.
Glad to help.
Love this! I tried messing with VoiceMeter but just couldn't manage to understand the darn thing. Sending this to my fellow streamers. Also recommendation: make a separate scene for all your audio and just add the scene as a source in your other scenes so it's a little more manageable.
Great idea. Thanks.
Been looking for Videos trying to do this for several days now. Finally one that WOOOOOORRRRKKSSS without having to set up separate hardware of program. THANK YOU!!!
I've been searching everywhere for a way to do this and nothing but confusing tutorials with several programs and I find this video, one plugin, done... I tip my hat to you sir.
Glad to help.
This video helped me SO MUCH! Thanks for making it! Now I can make my collab videos without stressing about the audio
Huge help! Thanks a bunch!! Been wanting to use spotify when gaming too but dealing with double audio is a nightmare, awesome fix for that!
Glad to help
Thank you, Master Jedi Feyrer. Yet another reason to stream with a PC.
No doubt!
This is one of the most useful viedos I saw around for a while. Thank you, my dood.
i searched alot and i have to say your video is the best one, very easy to follow and the step by step instructions are incedible thank you
I appreciate all that you do! You have a very clean editing style I love it!
Thanks
You could have also created a "Nested Scene" for this. Makes adding those audio sources a breeze to actual scenes you'll need those audio channels heard in.
One and Done!
Absolutely!
Wait this is better...
Exactly! I just finished watching the Nested Scene video before watching this one. So, I created a new NS for General Audio I'll use for everything, like VoiceMeeter for my mic.
I then used my former Gaming Stream scene AS the scene for just my game video and audio feeds, and I'll probably make a new scene combining them as the new Gaming/General Stream feed nesting everything together once I make some new graphic overlays and backgrounds, now that I know how to do all that. :0)
This has been so HELPFUL thanks Michael!
I've been looking for a solution for the separate audio on stream for months as I cannot install virtual devices in my PC due to incompatibility issues I had in the past, this is awesome thanks a lot!
Glad to help.
You were third recommended when I did a Google search and went to your video because I knew I wouldn't have to watch anything else. Hope you get to the TOP!
Thanks. I really appreciate that.
JUST WHAT I NEEDED DUDE, IT'S LIKE YOU CAN READ MY MIND, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH
Glad to help
Huge help! Excellent info and super simple with such a great explanation, thank you very much !!! little hand up with all the power !!!
Glad it helped!
This seems like it's a much better solution than using Voicemeter, which is what I'd been doing. It's such a hassle to set up but this seems easier to do. I'll play around with this for sure. Thanks for the heads up!
I think this one will solve my audio problems for good, thank you! You're amazing and has captivating speech
Glad to help. Thanks.
Thank you, Michael! That is waaaaaaaay easier than Voicemeter, I love it! Greetings from Germany!
Glad to help.
Thanks
gonna age myself on this one but this video feels like watching tv pre-2010 and thats definitely part of the reason its so good
Was searching for something like this for years. Thx a billion for pointing this out
This is what i was looking for, thank you a bunch man.
This video is an absolute godsend, thank you so much for uploading! You saved my stream hahaha
Awesome. Glad to help
Awesome. Glad to help
Great video! I’m using voicemeter and I remember how complicated was to set it up. This one now looks super easy..
This Plugin literally just saved me... I was adding a Screen Capture Source for PotPlayer so I can have tons of SoundFX ready on the fly via the playlist screen...while the irony here is using a screen capture for audio usage only... and the only way I was able to capture the sound was through Outputting Desktop Audio....which as you know creates ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS! Now I can isolate the audio from the executable file... AMAZING! THANK YOU!!!
Glad to help.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr after installing and adding Application Audio Output Capture... it seems to not be capturing the sound...even from a Chrome youtube page.... now I'm stuck..
I did everything you did... and it seems so easy... I have no idea why the audio is not picking up... any ideas?
CAVEAT: Updated Win 10 required for the application to work.
Thank You so much i been looking for something like this for so long MUCH MUCH LOVE
Glad to help.
You are best! I was looking this over a few month to do it without any programs. You save me and my stream records XD

Yes
thanks for this i always wanted to listen to music while streaming but was not able to do it but this video helped me
Awesome. Glad to help.
Your positive energy brightens up my day. Thanks for another awesome video. My setup is so confusing that I do not even want to explain , I use a DAW for voice and music creation, and I use my SSL guitar interface for my guitar direct into OBS. All my audio from my DAW and games and browser have all been coming in on one input, the sound card device, the problem is i have to set obs monitor to a separate set of headphones(my external monitor headphone jack) or I hear my voice doubled. I have never tried this yet. i really hope this fixes this stuff for me. My problem has been that if i set OBS monitor output to my Sound Card Headphones it picks up my voice from OBS and the DAW both, and they are not time synched so it gives me this weird off synch doubled voice and you cannot fix it with the OBS delay setting actually i have tried, I do understand sound engineering a bit as I am a musician and use Reaper and Ableton. This OBS stuff has been a pain in the but, i truly hope this fixes this for me. My friend who plays drums live has to use 2 computers to stream. for his DAW to work he has one computer running the DAW and going out of the sound card with stereo cables into a USB mixer going into the streaming PC. That is for setting up a Roland electric drum kit with Ableton live going and his voice and all these other things.
Hopefully it helps.
Very helpful! Thank you so much!!!

This helps me out a ton ! cant wait to try this out tbh :D
It’s awesome.
Thank you for sharing! It really help me. Another thing, can you do some video on how to control each participant volume from zoom going to obs? This is again a big help to us. Thank you so much!
You cannot separate audio from one source. All the zoom audio will still be together.
Love your content! Could you do one a about Mix it up and OBS sound settings? I tried many approaches but it keeps failing.
Thx for this Video!!! keep the working :D
Glad to help

Gracias Miguel! Un abrazo
While this plug-in can be nice, it has one major flaw that I see it making a royal pain to use: you have to set each and every game as an individual audio source, making it so you can't simply capture the audio of "any" game. This will either make your audio mixer area cumbersome to sort thru or you have to have individual scenes for every game you play. It also means that those with a Stream Deck will need to create multiple buttons for muting audio on all of the various games if they want to mute that during a break or anything like that.
What really needs to happen is the folks at OBS Project need to write the code in such a way that when you add a source that has audio (i.e. a game source) it automatically adds that as an audio track into OBS, instead of relying on Desktop audio. In this way your audio mixer can be cleaned up, your Stream Deck buttons aren't a black hole of mute/unmute buttons, and when you have a source you know for certain either doesn't have sound or you won't be using in your stream (i.e. XSplit VCam's use of your phone's mic) can be hidden from your view and your viewers are none the wiser.
It’s pretty simple to set up all the audio as a nested scene. Then you could have different sound profiles for different scenes or one simple place to easily just change the game audio to whatever it is you are currently playing and it will change in all the scenes with that audio in it.
There's a much better fix. Set up the source to capture audio from the "foreground scene" via a hotkey. Then, you only have to have one "gameplay" audio channel, and every time you play a new game, just open it and press that hotkey. Boom. Audio captured. I also use a stream deck, enabling me to only have one set of buttons for it as well. Hope this helps!
Thank you, you are doing a great job 😊
Thanks
that was amazing thanks!
Thanks Michael..This is a great solution!
Thanks
thanks very helpful.
Hi Michael, awesome as always! Question, what if I want to separate audio within the same source? For example, in a game I'm streaming I may need to mute the music since it's copyrighted. Thanks!
go to advance audio setting and on the section where it says vod uncheck the source containing the music
Doing great man!
Thanks!
thank you very much for the tutorial
thank you maaan and laid to rest is probaly my favourite lamb of god song
It’s one of the best.
Hi Michael, awesome video and great content. Love all what you do. I have an issue trying to separate audio using Elgato Wave 3 & WaveLink. I tried everything to separate these audio channels and nothing works. I can't record and have each individual audio track when using DaVinci Resolve. I tried separating them with Nested Scenes and creating new Audio Output Captures and modified Advanced Audio Properties. But nothing enables me to separate the audio tracks into Mic, Game, Music, Discord, Browser, SFX etc. What is your suggestions using Elgato Wave and Wave Link to separate audio tracks? Thanks and look forward to hearing your response.
Who needs VB Audio anymore? This is now revolutionary lol
VB alters the audio in ways OBS doesn't: such as cutting out background noise, adding base back into a cheap microphone or making you sound like a robot. So, VB is still helpful for more sophisticated setups.
yo thanks you so much now i get play music only for me and stream can only hear the game you r awesome man 😁
Absolutely
