    Excellent news that Australia is cutting back on international students. It's a good start but needs to go further. Immigration into Australia needs to be massively cut - at least in the short term.

    The situation visa system has always been funny. The 491 stream tries to pull people in regional areas but the situation there is scarce with lack of jobs and opportunities specially if it is IT. Then again we all agree the number of jobs vs the no of people is unbalanced and has always been unbalanced in almost all countries. Job scarcity is specially faced in part-time/blue collar sector as that is what all the students fight for.
    A lot of the students or almost 70% come here to make money and that needs to be understood! You gave them to opportunity and they took it. The rest don’t care or they atleast do not care if they can get a PR. Also, the way govt changes rules every 6 months presents a lot of uncertainty. Most of my friends have already canceled their decision to go to Australia and study.

      Yes. Key problem. Infrastructure and public transportation are good enough to boost the economy of regional areas

    Probably because we doubled our already crazy immigration rate in the last 2 years. This has caused the greatest housing crisis in the country's history. There's nowhere for the existing population to live let alone international students. Universities can increase the amount of students they enrol, they just need to show they have invested in building more student accommodation. Our rental vancancy rate is below 1% for most of the country. Tent cities are popping up everywhere. This is the only logical move. If Labor doesn't fix this issue, you'll get One Nation winning more votes and then yiu will see REAL immigration cuts. This is making the education industry more sustainable.

      Honestly, the key to resolve this could easily stop all migrants for 6 months... I think that will be a quick fix. shut international airport down for 6 months, only allow essential transportation and business visitors.
      and love the comment made by Peter Dutton last night, reduce further 25%, that's a great idea... I think further decrease 30, even to 50% could work better too

    Karl, what about the non-genuine international students who come here with no intention to study, just work, and they've been abusing the system for years? Why hasn't the government taken any action regarding this issue? These dodgy "international students" have been reported to the immigration, but still nothing has happened...

      most international student from south east aisa and maybe some eastern europe in hope of a better lifestyle and higher pay jobs....they go to countries australia uk canada usa etc to work not study at least 90-99% of the student from those regions..tbh the government doesn give a shit..the current situation is just a show for the incoming election

      @LessIsMore999 Місяць тому

      @@rabinpun-wy5xd I see... well in this case, these people that have been reported are from Japan. Yes, Japan. Even one of them is looking for an Australian citizen for a de facto visa, and willing to pay them for $55k in cash to get sponsored. This particular girl is so desperate despite living here for almost 10 years, cleans houses and wanting to get a PR through an easy way. Sad story, but she has been violating her student visa and now is plotting a fraud
