    skilled worker experience doesn't do tenured skilled workers justice. You can be a very skilled individual with decent tenure like more than 5 yrs, for example a trauma nurse, IT Security analyst, Doctor, Veterinarian or an Engineer but you'll get lesser points than a "Manager" that has a bare minimum experience of 2 yrs that gets 50 pts.
    It's damn easy to be a "Manager" overseas, this doesn't equate more to a specialist role with a tons of experience under their belt.
    Summary: "Manager" with 2 yrs exp. > Engineer with 12 yrs exp. This is dumb.

      The guys from Grattan Institute recommend those shortages to be filled with temporary migrants who will be sponsored by employers. So the migrants come here, build the houses, and then they leave. They don't want to use permanent visas to address a short-term problem.
      But for that to happen, the government has to fix the temporary program first. Employers are reluctant to sponsor workers because it is expensive and comes with so many obligations. If the government is not going to give PR to tradies, then they should at least make it easier to sponsor tradies. Otherwise, houses won't get built.

  • @centycents
    @centycents 3 місяці тому +6

    Its funny they want "Managers" more than real skilled workers that do skilled manual labor that has more contributions to growth.

      Japan imported nearly 2 millions immigrants for unskilled jobs such as construction workers and food processing workers.
      South korea construct artificial islands and imported more than 1.48 millions immigrants.

    Looking at the way regional areas consider nomination for example 190 and 491 Visas it is clear that the different areas have differing requirements based upon individual needs.This is understandable in terms of the wide separation and differing geography.However what is common to them is that they seem to concentrate primarily on need and suitability with the points score playing a far less important role.This is more in keeping with the logic of the Jobs and Skills Australia approach which seems to concentrate on the skills in need in differing areas in the short and medium term.Perhaps similar to the proposed Skills in Demand Visa.Both would seem more relevant in addressing the future needs of Australia than a points mean prizes open to the rest of the world.

  • @MichaelSmith-pm1tg
    @MichaelSmith-pm1tg 3 місяці тому +2

    The proposed points mean prizes system seems to concentrate on theoretical earning potential .However as we know from investment previous performance in not always a good indicator of future performance.In the medium term many people working in certain areas considered highly skilled will be replaced by AI only to find themselves unemployed .Perhaps there should be consideration on the skills in demand as indicated by Jobs and Skills Australia rather than simply counting points.At least the more practical occupations including construction(in view of the reported housing crisis)and age care nursing amongst others should be given more credit.At least we know they are of use and wont be replaced by AI.

  • @MichaelSmith-pm1tg
    @MichaelSmith-pm1tg 3 місяці тому +3

    The proposed points system concentrates on achieving a very high income and early academic progression.This may be considered unfair and discriminatory against young women who wish to start a family in there twenties when more fertile and healthy only to return to education later.Not to mention the fact that they typically have lower salaries.

    The government never asks the people who actually know what their talking about like yourself sir, but they seek opinions from self-appointed specialists like Gratton Institute who think that our points system exceeds 150 points. If we read the media coverage, you'll notice the reporters go for whatever gives a buzz to the viewer not facts not common sense but people who make their content more readable. This is todays Australia where the misinformed provides guidance to the more misinformed and we grow blinder.
    The reason for the housing Crisis is because the Australian public thought by voting labor they'll get a government who cares about their interest, instead they got a government who has no experience.
    Immigrants are being blamed when the people who should be accountable are turning a blind eye.
    I wonder how many wrongs it takes to make a right because with this bunch of people providing guidance and advise and the rest of us, looking in disbelief at how much mess up the government can make before things start improving.
