Lemmo is the only guy I know of who can go from screaming Van Halen on a solid body to freakin' Coltrane's Niema on a jazz box and follow it up with something he wrote for ditto to delight us all. He truly is an innovator, a genius composer and improvisor, a creative force in the guitar world. Norm sells guitars that are already sold. Thanks Norm, Jen, Michael best on the internet!
Out of all the Lemmo's we have seen, this one is my favourite type of Lemmo
I don’t know if this makes sense, but to me Lemmos playing is in 3D.
You can always tell when a guitar inspires him. And that "really mellow sound" is the rosewood bridge.
that last piece on the bridge pickup was beautiful.
beautiful guitar, beautiful playing LEMMO
ES-175Ds are surprisingly versatile guitars. I had a sunburst ‘62 in the mid ‘70s; my main gig at that time was R&B, but I’d use the 175 for jazz (of course!), blues, country, even rock if I didn’t have to play too loud! Mine had a Tune-O-Matic bridge, which gave it a little more attack than a rosewood one would have. I miss that guitar!
It's sad you had to let it go. Archtops are much versatile than people think indeed. I even played some Alice in chains with an Ibanez hollowbody once xD
One of the best yet, ,stunning piece and beautiful playing! Nice work!
Beautiful sound! Love it! And as usual great playing!
Wow! Definitively one of my favourite Guitar of the Day videos 😍
Michael, your mastery of so many diverse playing styles is awesome! Lovely guitar, beautiful playing. Thanks
That's just nuts! Wow!
What a classic beauty.
Class playing and class guitar xxx ❤️
Beautiful guitar
Thing of beauty
Man, you're an inspiration on the way I'm playing right now! Thanks!
Big sound! Full sublime.
One of the most beautiful guitars I’ve probably ever seen
This is some of your best. Music fits the instrument perfectly.
this guy never plays a bad note; and what a groovy guitar; my birth year!
Smooooth like butter! I think Lemmo really liked that one.
Now, that's a tone for the ages!
I'll put that one on my wish list !! ... awesome demo
That is one incredible instrument 😻😻😻😻😻
Great job mr. Lemmo
Sweet!
I got an Epiphone Olympic, now just give me a chance to go out and play it!
Lemmo droppn that smooth very nice bro
Awesome last piece. Love good fingerpicking
Nice guitar. Nice playing.
*Sweet Guitar*
So, no tooth brush? :)
Almost funny, Pat Matheney got his 175 as a single pup, modded it for a bridge pup and felt this changed the tone of the guitar enough, he tore all that out . Classic tracks recorded and played live with this....y'all knew that already ;)
Over 5 years ago, Pat said the guitar was literally falling apart but didn't trust anyone to work on it.
yep, lucky enough to see him, Travels, Berkely out door arena. Great !
That's a freakin' beauty !
Pictured on page 154 of Norms first vintage guitar book published in 1999.
I’m not missing Mark at all! Great playing!
Awesome sound it’s all most old as me
I love Naima, thank you
Very nice guitar. I hope to see Lemmo play an ES 295 soon.
Michael U made that bird sing. Thank U so much.
Great.
VERY NICE
Lemmo is Idol😥👍
In another universe I own that guitar
A 1956 (birth year) ES-175 is on my bucket list!
Such a great ES for a great ES WednESday! Awesome job Lemmo! However! Gotta do a Maton!
You da man!
The class, is very interesting....
Sweet
So many Gibson haters, yet so many Gibson buyers....
Yes, it seems Gibson guitars are selling big time on eBay !
I wish he used less reverb. It’s hard to hear the sound of the guitar. I have this guitar, a 1964. It looks exactly the same except for the tuning machines and a disc around the pickup selector. Great guitar.
I'm jelly :-(
i highly agree
Im rather partial to the blondes also , and wow 1958 , that thing looks brand new , and what a sound , those PAF's are the best pick ups anywhere , period. beautiful playing but two PAF's and didn't open it up once , those things smoke when you drive them , I mean i know it's a jazz box but they can rock too , anyway it sounded great clean , not complaining or anything , well done , thanks guys.
Do a Guild for Flattop Friday!
Or even a Guild ES or LP style guitar
Sold already!! Must be who you know on the inside to get first crack at it and buy it!!!!
F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C
Nice
Aside from considering whether to purchase a GOTD some of us are looking to get an idea of the value of some of these vintage guitars. If you're going to sell it before it's featured could you let us know what the sales price is?
I’ll echo the remarks about reverb; love you Lemmo but please dial it back by half - particularly for a very special instrument such as this. My interest would be to hear the pure sound of this guitar. Perhaps it’s because I have an old late 70’s silverface Princeton of my own and it’s a non reverb.
0:43 lol🤣🤣
Four adds I had to hear throughout this 10min video... Kind of outraugous youtube. Good shit lemmo, great sound.
I had 6
@@nickwhite2857 idk whats up with youtube right now, but 10 min vid uasually has one or two add in the beginning, and mabye one if it goes over 10 mins.
They are getting more add reviniew no doubt, I'm happy to watch and support the shop and the team at normans rare guitars. I was just wondering if I was alone in the advertisement bombardment. 😆
So, install Adblocker. I haven't seen an ad for years, really
Whenever I hear a 175 being played like the 2 song. It reminds me of Charlie Brown lol
I was waiting for some Ted Nugent in the bridge position. Guess not, Michael feeling mellow today.😎
If memory serves Nugent plays a Byrdland. It is sort of an odd choice for someone who plays at such a high volume but I read an interview with him many years ago and he talked about how he controls the feedback by moving to different parts of the stage for different notes.
@@jimbonacum8917 you are correct. Not sure what the difference is , or if a Byrdland is a version of a 175, but it's certainly similar.👍
I have the Orville by Gibson version of this guitar, probably 1/10 the price. Naima is a great tune
The thing with guitars like this is you buy it, you experience it, and then you sell it on for more than you paid for it. You just have to be able to afford the price of admission.
you should review a jackson or a ibanez one day.
WHILE WEARING SPANDEX?
@@GuitarlosCarlos WHAT SHOULD YOU WEAR WHEN DEMOING A DANELECTRO ? (DEPENDS ?) LOL
Destroyer would be cool. Could do the EVH bit.
Boomers are where the big bucks are. They’ll keep doing boomer guitars.
@@GuitarlosCarlos HOW WAS COPER WIRE INVENTED ? CARLOS GUITARLOS PULLING ON A PENNY LOL
No Steve Howe??
Went full Billy corgan there with the colour changes the sound lol
That was a very a bright sounding es175 though
#WednESday
Good Boy Again! Now you are beginning to learn how to demo a guitar to show its real soul :-)
WOW WOWIE WOWINSKI
MY FRIEND CESAR PEÑA HAS A 1960 CLEAN BLOND ES-175
ZAKKLY LIKE DIS HERE BEAUTY
GREAT INTERIOR COLOR ON THIS OLD TOTSY TOT CALI GIRL CASE
I BET THIS GUITAR ACTUALLY SOUNDS GREAT BUT YOU WOULDN'T KNOW IT FROM THE CRAPPY EFFECTS ON IT
GREAT PLAYING MICHAEL ON GUITARS N TOYS OF THE DAY
COOL SHOW TODAY JEN
CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042
Spot on Carlos.
That guitar looks and sounds like honey.
Wonder what the price was for that back in 1958
$175 👍🏻
Piękna gitara u nas w Polsce to majątek bardzo drogi. Świetna prezentacja. BRAWO
Anyone know what looper lemmo uses?
The model number is derived from the original price of $175.00. Why doesn't Normans store their guitar's in a 40%-50% humidity environment? Thanks!
Because it’s not the gear page
My basement has 54% humidity and my guitars, amps and drums, all made of wood and metal seem to be just fine when I pick them up and play. 🤔
Get my Steve Howe on !
Exactly. The most famous 175 player and no mention?
Super looper
Come on man, play some Chuck Berry, and duck-walk across the floor with that thing...
Trogly would’ve!!!!!
FUCK YEAH!!
HYEONJUN KIM
CHUCK BERRY DIDN'T PLAY A ES-175 DORKJUNKKUM
JIM HALL, JOE PASS AND ALL THE REST OF THE OTHER GREAT MUSICIANS THAT PLAYED THEM AND JUST ANYBODY WOULD AGREE WITH ME THAT YOU SIR ARE A TOTAL ASSHOLE
CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042
Chuck was famous for playing 335 and 350's, but I bet every ES model went through his hands at some point...no doubt he made them all sound good..Johnny B Goode...
Sly Stallone Superstar
PROBABLY SO MR STAR
Fender LEMMO gibson lemmo
Mines was a sunburst 1962 same as Joe Pass, I made an abalone truss rod cover for it and Joe signed it for me in Edinburgh before a the concert. I still have that truss cover with Joe,s autograph. The 175 I traded for a G&L F 100 first year signed in the neck pocket by Leo. Did I make the the right move. You tell me.
I would have kept the Gibson.
So many years ago and I was playing in a rock band. I was collecting and trading these guitars before they were they were thought of as special. Had them all apart from a Korina. Happy to live out my last years with my 57 & 60 strats both custom colour.
Izzy Stradlin Guitar
How much is it worth tho? Y'all should tell us the value of these!
It’s all about Jen’s fabulous nails. Thank you Lemmo.
Is looping now a part of the music industry, it takes lots of talent and timing, but does it replace great studio musicians?
IT'S MOSTLY BULLSHIT
This video is a religious experience.
Michael’s playing is ridiculous in a good way.
Stallone snap that thang up ?
2:03: it's probably good that he's not a proctologist...
I bet all the customers who buy these guitars bring them back at night and leave them on the steps with a note that says, "this child belongs to Michael Lemmo, my instrument of choice is now the kazoo 😥."
Yeah Ted Nugent bought another ES175.
I think he plays byrdlands
@@joshferguson9703 PRS
Ted played Byrdlands
@@barrysoetoro8452 only during his damn Yankees period he was and still is an avid byrdland player and has been since the amboy dukes the guy is one of my main influences
@@joshferguson9703 Hibernation is my favorite song by Ted I have seen him so many times in concert I honestly cant remember all the shows but I will never forget handling one of his Byrdlands that he had carved his name into at a Dallas guitar show It was a natural Came with a letter from a radio station Someone had won that guitar in a contest on a radio station and it was for sale for $4,000 in the 1990s
This would have been better without all the gizmos, plugged straight into the amp.
You can’t hear the stellar tone this thing has unless it’s dry? I’m sure that’s not better than what we just heard.
@@ryanfulldark2775 It's murky and watered down. I'd much prefer to hear those vintage PAFs cranked through Fender Super Reverb or Twin. Joe Pass And Kenny Burrell didn't need a looper.
@@mattrogers1946 Lemmo doesn’t need a looper either. To each, their own I suppose.🤷🏼♂️
This guitar gives WAP desires! (Want A Paf)
How did Pat Metheny manage to achieve the magic sound of such a guitar? Riddle ...
Lemmo shows that this is impossible.
Metheny uses pedals to create his sound. Chorus and delay I think.
@@drothberg3
Lemmo also uses "digital processing". However, thoughtlessly.
It showcases an old rarity that sounds like an inexpensive Japanese synthesizer. No understanding (
Far too much reverb and delay make the guitar sound generic
Norm, Michael, and Jenn, we love you guys but we can't watch your videos anymore. UA-cam ads are out of control! There's nothing worse than getting into your songs only to be rudely interrupted mid song for commercials. 3 commercial breaks within the first 5 minutes of the video!
To be honest it sounds like every other clean tone. Save the bucks and get a working mans guitar.
To be really honest, that's what it sounds like to you.
ES-175s were considered working men’s guitars for years, until they got so expensive that the average working guitar player couldn’t afford them any more.
Lemmo might not want to hear this.............He is a Gibson player.
He can play what he likes doesn’t change anything
You guys need more black people.
Affirmative action time !
Time to introduce some culture to your store, so how about hiring some young black boys to work on the store and do those videos !?!?
Haha
Great playing but less jazzy stuff in the videos and more rock n roll :)
