Man, it's is difficult to sound that relaxed on your own guitar. To sound that way on a guitar he presumably picked off the rack is extra impressive. Like everyone has said below, that was wonderful. I think the icing on the cake is that he seemed to be having a lot of fun.

@@cgavin1 A few videos of CME have had great sounding demos. For the most part though, CV are on another level! I feel i'm sat in the room listening, as oppose to a thin nasaly sounding demo you mostly get on CME vids. Sound is GREAT in this vid!!

The 1st to 5th fret reaches are just so god damn casual you almost don't even notice them! (Edit) Went back to the tape to check, sorry I was wrong 1st to 6th fret (around 2:28). I just did just that part of it and I need to lie down now!
Oh my gosh. Beautiful rendition. The base line distinctly sounds like an upright base’s line and the main tune a light playful guitar. Awesome contrast. It’s so awesome as well that musicians honor old jazz standards with their own renditions. Loved it!
lol nailed it , been playing for 20 years , saw him live in the basement in Sydney a few years back and was one of greatest musical experiences in my life , his brother on guitar , his sister on bass and his childhood friend on drums , all phenomenal musicians in their own right but he is something special . I woke up shell shocked but also so inspired

Well, just check his UA-cam channel, and listen to his whole journey through guitar from the beginning in piano till today, and you’ll understand it’s not just talent, but extreme work passion and dedication. That’s how you can become a crazy guitarist.
@@elrafa782 I have hung out with people who grew up with him told me crazy stories of his work ethic it's insane yea no doubt he worked extremely hard . Tommy Emmanuel was working with him which also had to have helped his playing tremendously. All that aside people work hard and can not achieve this level just as you could work your ass off night and day guess what you ain't going to beat LeBron James at basketball or beat Usain Bolt in a 100 m race . He is that kind of special imo . The combination of talent , natural gifts , and extremely hard work .

The best guitar solo version I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard a lot of them. From the travis picking, a moving bass line with some tasty chord changes, and with a key change, I loved every measure of it. JR is incredibly talented.

Pat Bergeson, a member of Chet's band in the later years as you likely know, said pretty much that. "Chet would have loved Joe Robinson". Joe and Pat played together at an honorarium for Chet Atkins at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 2011. I can't find the video. It used to be out there. Maybe Gretsch took it down.

The TedX Nashville video though impressive is a little too gimmicky. But I love to hear virtuosos and Joe certainly qualifies!

Good guitar players are a dime a dozen. Less notes more feeling. Plus instrumentals are kinda empty. Gotta sing. Which means you have to sing and play both and write. Robert Johnson, Gary Davis, Lightning Hopkins, Loretta Tharpe, Doc Watson. Lots of people can play hell out of a guitar. But only a handful can play,sing,and write their own songs. Jimi Hendrix even

just how a quality instrument show be demonstrated, no pedals, talking about specs, or turning the guitar about at all angles for the camera. but how could most folk presume to play this guitar after that performance ? we just witnessed its full potential

The bass strings sounds so smooth and round and sweet. Tone tone tone... great.
