- As a replacement for the usual GoPro POV, I tried using the Insta360 ONE R as a secondary angle for this street photography vlog.
Audio is through the Rode Wireless Go attached to the Insta 360 ONE R using the mic adapter.
Where we went today: 新宿 北村写真機店 - Shinjuku Kitamura Camera Shop
Let me know what you think of the video and the audio with this setup!

Does this camera works with Google street view apps
Just tested this.
No, it doesn't connect.
However, you can upload a 360 photo that you take with the ONE R and upload that. It'll be recognized as a 360 photo and work properly.
wow
thanks!
Great video man. The shots from the 360 looked so good.
Hey thanks dude. The ONE R is pretty capable, especially when you've got enough light!
Great video. Thanks mate.
I enjoyed this video and you got a new subscriber. Your language skills are interesting to watch. However, it's the street view of Tokyo that I miss most. I have traveled to Japan 1-2 times per year for 4 years leading up to Covid. I miss the scene, the food, and the people. It's quite an amazing culture, and as a hobby photographer and videographer, it's amazing to see a place where camera culture is still strong and thriving. I especially like walking the parks and finding a group of old men with hundreds of thousands of $ worth of gear gathered around taking pictures of humming birds or other interesting things. Coming to you from Chicago.
Thanks man! Yeah, Tokyo is a fun place to explore with photo/video in mind. There's tons of other cool stuff across the country though if you get the chance to travel more!
I have traveled outside of Tokyo three times but always for business. I didn’t get much of the local scenery except for the commercial areas around businesses. I would love to see more of Japan’s natural side and farm side and Oceanside
Business is always so limiting. If you're in a crunch for time, somewhere like the Izu peninsula in Shizuoka prefecture has great ocean and nature areas!
Daaaaaamn that shop is camera heaven bro! I got the insta 360 also to vlog my street photography and to have a more fun camera to use and not to think about too much. Love the third person view! Great work, really like it!
Yeah it's pretty great! And that's why I like having a separate vlog camera as well. Switching back and forth between photo and vlogs on one camera is too distracting
07:36 - That's the exact entrance/exit I'd take for college when I was physically going to Lakeland University Japan!! Part of me misses physically going to classes, but the introverted part of me likes taking classes from home!
Haha yeah, definitely pros and cons with all the required social situations of the past.
pretty nice and fun, i subscribed after watching. keep doing it dude!
Oh thanks man. Really appreciate it!
Woah. Seriously some awesome stuff man. I’ve been watching some 4K videos where the guy just walks around in Japan and I love that shit... this definitely gives me those vibes such a high quality video with lots of different video angles I love it!
Subbed!
Thanks so much man! It was fun when editing this since I can see behind me and stuff as well haha
Much respect bro. Love your videos. Viewing from North Borneo, Sabah Malaysia. Just got mine few days ago. Will try it on my videos 🙏😇🙏
Thanks for the love! Nice dude. Have fun with it!
Awesome video man, nice photos, and this camera is amazing!
I need to film more with it, yes the files are a lit bit heavy but it's a 360video so I can accept that.
I also love your desktop setup by the way 😊
Thanks so much! It's not bad in the studio app. Just heavy and buggy in premiere unfortunately. And haha, my desktop is kinda janky, but thank you!
Great video. Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Yooo loving the content! I just got the Osmo Action off OfferUp for dirt cheap but I've been on the fence for a minute about the Insta360. I think you've convinced me to give it a go!
Thanks dude! I always wanted to play with an osmo action. But if you want to try 360, I'd recommend the Insta 360 ONE X2 as well if the form factor works for you!
I think the best workflow is to import it in the insta 360 app and then import it in your editor of choice. I have even tried the Premiere plugin but I don't really like it that much. I still prefer the app.
The studio app is pretty good! I just want to simplify it down to 1 step instead of 2 haha
subbed. i currently live in tokyo and have really been wanting to do stuff like this but never get around to it. i have the equipment but no gumption , i guess. nice quality content btw.
Thanks for your support! My brain and laziness always try to stop me from shooting. I have so many videos that I've started making and abandoned like 80% of the way through, sometimes even in the edit.
I never regret not trying to make the video though!
Hey bro,
Nice video. Did you face any lens fogging issue in the 360 mod? I'm really confused between this and hero 8. Suggest one
Thanks for stopping by!
I got the fogging lens momentarily for the first time the other day.
However, I also beat the daylights out of my ONE R a few days prior when I went hiking through some shrubs to get to a waterfall so I might've dislodged something. I haven't had issues otherwise though.
I haven't played with the newer gopros, but 360 video fits my style of video making and the ONE R has the added benefit of the invisible stick right out of the box.
A question, does 360 photo = photo sphere?
In other words, I don't know if 360 photo is really 360 degrees.
(cuz i found photos not actually 360 degrees will be rejected to publish in Google Street View)
The ONE R, ONE X, and ONE X2 all will create actual 360 photos. What's nice with the Insta360 cameras is that you can take the photos/videos remotely through the app and the stick itself will auto disappear from the shot without extra editing in post. However, tripod legs will still be visible so keep that in mind!
Nice video
Just came across this video looking for insight on how people use the insta360. Question how did you get third person angle are you holding the selfie stick or is it mounted to your bag??? Hard to tell since insta 360 makes the selfie stick invisible in video.
Thanks for coming by! I have it strapped to my bag. I stuck it in the water bottle holder pocket and then bungee strapped it higher up for stability.
Most of my POV street photo videos use the ONE R or ONE X2 in some way. Feel free to ask any questions!
@@MasaTanahashi ahh i see, it must have been strapped in very well cause the video shows no wobbling or statability issues. If it was on a windy day then the wind could have affected it.
There is a bit of wobble because of how our bodies move when we walk. It's more noticeable in longer clips.
In my most recent video with the disposable camera, I have the ONE X2 in a similar setup if you wanted to see another example!
Nice!! Subscribed
I appreciate it man!
Genial
Thank you!
2:47 "Everything that you are seeing and hearing is out of the Insta360 One R" => But I guess audio was transmitted with the Rode Wireless go, right?
But the way: Really surprised that you do not have more subscribers, keep up going with that good content :)
This is a fair point. You are correct. Audio from the One R through the Rode Wireless Go.
Really appreciate the kind words 🙏 Just gotta keep grinding 💪
@@MasaTanahashi great, I want to buy the same kit, that's why I asked 😃 Greetings to Japan and stay healthy 👍
Thanks you too!
If you haven't seen yet, I go over the audio setup in my latest video. Might be helpful. It has some sound examples too.
I usually work the 360 footage in Insta 360 studio rather than using a plugin, I found it more intuitive.
The Insta360 desktop app is so good. I started straight away in premiere though and I just like having one less step in the workflow process!
You said your computer struggled a little with the footage; what are the specs on your system?
To clarify, the studio app runs super smooth. 360 is just heavy in Premiere.
Specs: pcpartpicker.com/list/B3LVmg
@@MasaTanahashi Thanks for the reply
No problem. Out of curiosity, do you have a 360 cam or are you asking before you buy?
@@MasaTanahashi I'm thinking of buying the 360. I have an I 8700K and a gtx 980ti card.
Oh fun! In terms of rendering, in Premiere, it is pretty GPU heavy but even with my specs I can drag and drop into Premiere and edit it okay at around 1/2 or 1/4 playback resolution. But honestly, unless you're doing some crazy stuff, the Insta360 studio app is more than enough.
I am considering to get Insta360 soooon.. still doing more research.
Feel free to have any questions. I also have the ONE X2 now so you can ask about tht as well.
@@MasaTanahashi which one is better for travel vlog? Audio quality of x2? I have rode wireless go. Your setup made me really want to get the 360 R
That question, I think, is a bit more complicated than it sounds.
Personally, I like the X2 better. It feels better than the R.
If you want a simple setup, the ONE R + cold shoe mount cage + wireless go is really easy to put together and just works. The downside is that you're going to see the mic and wires depending on how you reframe.
The ONE X2 allows for a better balanced and "hidden" mic setup though. My friend Sujit shows how to do it in one of his videos:
ua-cam.com/video/n2KZ04DN7kw/v-deo.html
Thank you@@MasaTanahashi that link is exactly what i need.. thrilled to get my own setup. Appreciate it
Hope it works out for you!
Hello Masa! Do you know any community in Tokyo here for learning how to shoot using insta360 I recently bought mine but I haven't really used it yet I'm having difficulties :(
Hi! I've actually been talking a little bit about this with a few people in recent months. I don't think there's necessarily an organized community, but feel free to ask me any questions here or on IG/Twitter!
@@MasaTanahashi thanks haha I actually want to meet a group where we can personally practice using my camera I tried watching lots of videos but still having a hard time
I see. What are you having the most difficulty with?
From where ur getting ur music bro
For this video I think it was artlist. I’m using epidemic sound now though
I like this! Exactly what i did in Fukuoka. I am subbing! Maybe we can bounce similar ideas on ways to use the Insta360 One R :)
Oo awesome thanks! I'll check your videos out later.
NAIM ;)
Thanks! I think!
