The same to me. When I was 10 in 94, it was hate at the first sight. But times goes by, I saw this little car again and again, and realized that I loved it. I bought one 94 gray last year and I’m very happy with it.

Rewatching this, what a fun and adorable little car, so practical and frugal to drive, it’s very close to the classic status (buy one while you can) and still perfect as a city car. I hope you can find a fully equipped phase 3 to review, those are very desirable, especially the Initiale Paris.

The C3G engine (better known as the “Cléon-Fonte” engine) was very slow and oddly less reliable than the E7F (also known as the “Energy” engine), the E7F, which first appeared on the Renault 19 in 1988, was a huge improvement (especially in its 16V variant) and drains less fuel compared to the Cléon-Fonte one. After all, the Cléon-Fonte was already outdated when the Twingo was released (that engine is from the early 1960s!) despite having numerous improvements over the years. Also it's “E7F”, not “D7F”, the D7F was never used on the Twingo I (the Twingo 2, however, does use this engine, albeit in its turbocharged version called TCe).
It's actually way better than most city cars from its time, it's really comfy, especially the facelifted version built in 1998 with bigger front seats and especially its big update in September 2000 which has a much stonger engine (the D7F engine which first appeared on the first Clio) and better ride quality thanks to its bigger wheels, bigger brakes, an antiroll bar and stronger car structure (the car is 140 kg heavier).
