    Thanks Pete, this is like going to reseller/ebay college for free.
    I live in a rural area, 13% fees is well worth having 50 million people shopping in my living room right here on the farm.

      Same here and my thoughts exactly. I get more traffic on my ebay store then any pawn shop around me will ever get. Cost of business for sure!

    My rule of thumb for shipping is that USPS is best until you can't use a medium flat rate box (or regional rate A or B). After that everything goes FedEx. Usually works out well. USPS is just way too expensive. I also won't seal the box until I weigh it. often times you'll be an ounce or two over and can cut off box flaps or do something to save that ounce or two. Or I'll use up my heavier packing materials if I know I'm in between pounds.

    Loving this series Pete! I think most people will because it’s closer to what they do on a daily basis and most don’t own shops. I’m learning a ton and the comments seem to be a bit more friendly too lol. I have always been and Amazon FBA Seller because Shipping scared me. This has been a real eye opener! Thanks again!

    Nice Pete. As a power seller from the 90's, I can tell you that not much as really changed in the nuts and bolts of Ebay seller's travails. On shipping, I found that a long table, with the package moving from station to station, worked great. I also found that becoming skilled at quickly making custom boxes from cardboard sheets saved a lot of time in dumpster diving and sorting through boxes. Also, try a roll of brown butcher paper when you need to ship in the original NIB item. Hides the label and saves reboxing.

      Also , I had a roll of meatpacker's film wrap set up. Great for wrapping loose items of all sizes, including golf clubs. Saved shipping damage.

    Outstanding video Pete. I think some people put stumbling blocks in front of themselves re ebay fees, shipping and packaging, possibility of fraud, etc. There is that element in all types of business, however it is as you say the "cost of business" and remains a small percentage of overall sales.

    I love your set up Pete! I'm so jealous. I live in a small 2 bedroom apartment with my son and omg it's jam packed with my eBay stuff! I also have 2 storage lockers and a garage full of eBay inventory, shipping boxes, and packing materials. I've unfortunately had more fun shopping for eBay than selling, lol. Actually what happened is I became very ill in 2010 and I tried to keep my eBay going but things got very out of control due to being sick with severe fatigue and out of this world pain (narcolepsy and fibromyalgia). I am starting to feel a lot better not after discovering the root of my illnesses was food allergies and stomach damage! Anyhow, now that I want to get going full-steam on my eBay again, I am completely overwhelmed with all the "eBay Mountains" I have everywhere, lol, and all the disorganization. I will figure it out though somehow. I guess I just needed to vent here. If anyone else has been in a similar situation and has some advice on how they got it together, I'm all ears. :)

    I made a great score today thanks to you Pete. DVD/VHS Recorder New in Box for $20, I should get just under $400 with shipping. I'm really new though. I have only one sold item so far. That went well but this one has me nervous. You said you do signature confirmation over $200. I'll do the same. Do you do anything else to protect yourself from scammers? I don't think I've seen a video dedicated to the subject. Might be worth putting together.

    Pete electronic contact cleaner to clean volume controls or to even clean an electronic boards & tube sockets is a MUST. Also denatured alcohol is the best choice for cleaning tape heads and can also be used in volume/tone controls or any electronic component that needs to be washed because it is non conductive similar to contact cleaner. Swiffers are great for cleaning large amount of dust from the exterior of dirty dusty components. If I buy a very dusty component & I mean it looks like a wall of dust inside, once I remove the back & or the "guts," themselves I use a leaf blower. Just be sure not to hit the speaker if there is one & if it's tube chassis make sure they're secure. I studied radio/tv repair DECADES ago in trade school and have been cleaning components & doing minor repairs since the 70's. Keep cranking it up!

    hey Pete. i have found that a hairdryer on a sticker lets you lift it right off. it beats having to use the o oil or lighter fluid. Made my day when it worked. I had about 30 stickers to remove.

    • @Donna777
      @Donna777 6 років тому

      Yes that's what I've always used and it works super good!! Sometimes it leaves behind the sticky residue and then I use a drop of oil or even lotion to take the sticky residue off. I also use the hairdryer trick for packing boxes too. If I am shipping in a box that has a big sticker on the outside, I use the hairdryer to effortlessly peel it off. There will almost always be sticky residue on the outside of the box but no problem - I just stick my shipping label over the residue (works great!) then put clear packing tape over my label. Also, when I remove smaller stickers from the outside of my shipping box that leave residue, I just cover the residue with a small piece of clear tape. eBay tricks!! :)

    Hi Pete, First off Thanks for sharing the update video! Question, with the Pioneer Receiver that you had shown us that sold, I noticed that the shipping preference that you had selected for the listing of this item was for USPS Priority Mail ( which is consider expedited shipping) but when the item actually had sold, you ended up going with a different shipping method, selecting Fed-Ex Home delivery ( in which according to Ebay is consider standard shipping). With that said, has a customer ever said anything and/or raised an issue about this - in regards to shipping your item with a different shipping carrier (like Fed-Ex) than from what was stated your Ebay listing (USPS Priority mail)? This question is directed towards just selecting & using fed-ex home delivery ( standard shipping) instead of USPS priority mail. Lastly did you get the USPS tape for free that was shown that you had used for your package,, or did you have to pay for it? I used to get the free USPS tape from their website, but they stopped giving it out for free online.
    Thanks!

    I love watching your videos. Being a person who sells on ebay I often learn of markets that I have not played with by watching your videos. I do want to point out one thing. You talk about how you made a couple dollars profit on the shipping, but in reality you didn't when you consider the Ebay fees on the shipping and then the Paypal fees. Then there is the packaging materials and cost of printing a label. Just wanted to point it out, so newbies to this don't assume they can make some pocket change on the shipping. Keep up the great videos.

    Pete could you touch base on shipping labels scales and how you proscess the shipping. Example do you use label machine and postage is already fugured? Then you just drop off at post office or do you wait in line and they scan them. One last ? What are the best scan tools for checking different platforms when checking comparables? Thanks Peace.

    Hi Pete, I enjoy your insights and experience. Speaking of selling VCR's, I wouldn't recommend it, because the technology and workmanship of those machines is just not reliable. Especially if they are used machines, they are probably going to be defective even if they played okay for you when you tested it. It is likely that when a buyer gets it and starts using it that it's going to crap out on them. Just my opinion. Keep up the good work.

      I just saw a picture of Francis Bean the other day and I was like wait, she's an adult??? LOL, yes I felt OLD as hell!!! Funny how time goes by so fast when you're older. When Pete looked at the year of this tape and said "1991", I thought omg, I was like 20 when this tape came out, and at that time remember how I used to think about the music from the 60's - like it was ancient...back in the hippie days! And to think that's how the young people of today (like my son who's 21) view the music of Nirvana, all 90's grunge, and other music of the 90's!!! And they see the music of the 80's like we viewed the MUSIC OF THE 1950'S when we were teenagers, LMAO!!! Think about that for a moment and you'll REALLY feel old, haha! Wow...to me when I look back, Nirvana and music of the 90's (even the 80's) doesn't feel that old and feels just like yesterday (I was born in 71). But I think that right there IS a sign of being old, lol. But we got to grow up when music was MUSIC!! I can't tell you how many kids and teenagers I've seen commenting on how they wish they could have grown up in the 80's and 90's when music was so cool. Some of the kids you can tell are truly bummed about it too - I kind of feel bad for them, lol. When I read those comments is when I realized what an amazing era - the 80's & 90's - I grew up in! It was really a revolutionary time in music!!! Sorry for the blog, lol. :)

    I want some opinions here, whats the deal with goodwill prices now? Every time I visit a store in the NJ area the prices are crazy, $20 for a dragon ball z dvd, $60 for a used Nintendo Wii, $6 for xbox video games. Are they getting the prices from Ebay or what? Other thrift stores are way cheaper than Goodwill now, is this only happening here or is it the same in other states?

  • @dinacox1990
    @dinacox1990 6 років тому

    Question. When you show the amount spent, is that the amount only on the items sold? It always seems to me that we should account for entire inventory cost and although much is still for sale, we always have to spend the $$ to have an inventory larger than what sells in order to made the sales that do happen. Pete, you have a great sell-through, but I think of those sellers that have spent example: over $2000 on inventory, sell one item for $100 that they spent $10 on and think that they have made $90. In reality they have lost $1910. Exaggeration, but have so often wanted an experienced great seller to address this issue. Thanks so much. I never miss one of your postings!!!! Very best, Dina

    We would like to know how you keep records for taxes and such? Do you use a spreadsheet or just all through eBay and PayPal invoices and such?

    Does your customer get upset when you ship slower mail when you advertised on eBay shipping priority mail? When you created the label it said the buyer paid for priority, which you had priority selected for your shipping policy.

      He hasn't followed up talking about the clothing sales experiment at all. That's a likely candidate, because clothing sales have about a 33% return rate (from all the fickle women who can't ever make up their minds). I don't need or want indecisive, non-adult customers, thank you. They will waste your time.
