This will be my second precure series I am watching after finishing Futari Wa, and I'm already hooked from the first episode. I honestly thought they would go the Symphogear route with the Idol Cures singing and fighting at the same time. However I do like this new approach where they just throw hands against the monster with a climax song to heal the sparkle (dreams) in ones heart. I hope in future episodes we get at least one brand new song every other episode by the time we get to the middle of the season. Can't wait for episode 2!
Besides the whole Don Momotaro thing, I swear Uta made a Den-O reference during the fight when she said the word Climax. Also Purirun is VERY close to purin/pudding, we better not let Momotaros get near Purirun LOL.
This premiere was such a breath of fresh air after the past few seasons. I commend the past seasons for trying new things, but the problem is that they didn't use those new ideas to their full potential. So it was a smart move to do a "back to basics" season with actual fights and villain interactions. We also get the return of actual people as the victims of the week (Heartcatch and GoPrincess were the only other ones that did this). It was also great to see Uta immediately trying to show everyone the magical fairy like any real person actually would. I can't wait to see where this goes!
I think Precure might well be back. The this first episode feels like it could fit into the Gold Age (Fresh through Go Princess). We have a villain trio that plays off each other. We have an interesting gimmick to how the generals capture victims to make their monsters. We get actual punching and kicking. The fairy was annoying, but Uta sharing in the annoyance made it funny. Uta herself feels like she will be one of the stronger leads. We're going to have an initial trio of Cures which is the best setup in my opinion. And that finisher was the best one of the franchise. It was just a riot to see the monster cheering her on. I think getting back to basics is the best possible move Precure could make. Why try to keep inventing the wheel? The formula worked for seven solid years from Fresh to Go Princess.
So far I have a bit mixed feelings about this episode and season, but overall quite liked it and want to give it more episodes to judge! I like Uta as protagonist so far! She is quite level headed in contrast to Puririn and I liked how she deduced that singing to the monster may work, based on Puririn comments about "kirakira feelings". It's not like she confronted a big monster without any plan that would be reckless bravery.

We are so back! So back even we return to DDP-GoPri era where the monsters are born out of human emotion (well, technically Hugtto was the last one to did it, but monster born out of human emotion is the staple of DDP-GoPri era, while Hugtto was an exception during MTP-STP era). It is a surprise to be sure, but at the same time Toei or the production might feel they need to go to their older root (not the original root, because again, to me this feels more of DDP-GoPri era instead of FwPC-Y5GG era or Fresh-Smile era) after they heavily experimented with the formula during HSP and WPC. I am liking it so far, though I do want to say the negative first before do more analysis. I don't think the logical progression in this first episode worked. It is comedic, but sometime you have Uta eagerly trying to do Momotaro story but another time she is worried about Pururin being exposed. The enemy suddenly appear without us knowing what their goal (as in, are they simply want to destroy the city? Or is there a goal they want to accomplish?). It unfrotunately make the episode feels aimless and the writer just trying to throw everything in the episode and see what worked. With the negative out of the way, let's talk a bit more on the positive. I like all the character so far. Even with the villains you can see the big boy looks similar to Giant, so he is all muscle and not much brain. The small boy is Suneo, the more brain less muscle of the group. Lady villain in precure usually is a simp for the big bad, and if the silhouette is any indication, it seems the big bad is a woman too. Is this yuri I am sensing? Based on how prominant Uta/Cure Idol is in the opening and ending, and how much this is a return to DDP-GoPri era, I have a feeling this might the return of lead cure centric show, after the lead Cure play secondary role from TRP onward. I think that's why the blue and the purple Cure aren't featured prominently in the opening. Heck, I don't think we see them in the first episode? To be honest, I don't think I can say too much about this episode aside from "nostalgic", because the episode itself focus more on mood and overall pretty minimalist in term of its setting. There is no big event that Uta is pursuing (like saving school for Love Live, or singing as Budokan for K-ON!, or even collecting Emerald for MTP), there is little shown about the fantasy land, there is no explanation about Cure Idol power, etc. So instead, I am going to finish this with an analysis on possibility of why Toei returned to basic with this entry in 2025. And I think the reason is because Toei realized they've been losing their adult audience after solely focus on the kid demographic for years now. I think it is no secret that as the toy sale dwindle, Toei steadily push the show to be even more kid friendly, to the point that they make baby able to become precure (precure originally target 6+ kids, so their characters were older than 6, so if you have baby become a Cure, that means they expect baby to watch and wish to become precure too) and removing fighting. As the story become less and less serious (because the villains were becoming less and less relevant to the show), people who like precure for its fighting and occasionally intense story become more alienated. Which prompted Toei to greenlight the Otona project to recapture the adult audience who've moved on from Precure (both through sequel of old entries and the all boys precure which target young adult female). But while ther merch sales have recovered, the toy sales still laging behind (at least Wonderful Q2 sold less than HSP Q2, we shall see how well Wonderful Q3 did). And with Japan's declining kid demographic, Toei might feel pressured to return the their old formula that were popular with Adult at the time. Which is why the navel has returned. But, there might be another reason why they return to the basic in 2025, and that is the soon to air Princession Orchestra. I find it to be awfully convinient that after Princession Orchestra was announced, Precure's new entry is a magical girl who sing as they beat their enemy. I think KimiPure is a reactionary decision by Toei who want to steal Princession Orchestra's lightnig as KimiPure will air a solid two months before that show. But because it is a reactionary decision, it explains its weakness, such as why the first episode feels haphazard, a lot of its reveal was so late (in later half January, we know a lot about Hirogaru Sky and Wonderful at December, early January), and Cure Idol's doesn't sing in her first fight (aside of final attack) (the staffs probably has only prepared on song per character when they produced this episode, so only the final attack get singing). Finally, while there is no real yuri this episode, that mangaka clearly make a yuri manga. And the fact Uta is interested in it is... Interesting, to say the least... Anyway, that's it from about this episode. See you next time.
I just want to correct you that Wonderful did not sold less than Hirogaru Sky. It actually surpasses Hirogaru. Wonderful did extremely better in terms of toy sales
@@e.h6522 What we have right now is the merch sales (Toei revenue), the toy sales (Bandai revenue) number hasn't been released yet (should be this week).
I guess it's ok for them not to sing during the transformation, the short sentences she says might be a reference to the "call and response" idol thrope, where the fans answer back to specific idols' cheers, as I guess children watching would love to cheer the Cure on with the "Yay!" During the transformation
Finaly was able to sit down and watch the show and like you said, it was a pretty standard first episode. I do like that Uta has a little more sensibility as a pink lead as we haven’t really got something like that since I think healing good? The straight man jokes are pretty funny and when she’s being sincerely cheering others up, you can really feel the difference between her from the start. Let’s see out it will work out in the next year
This opening episode surprised me. And I mean that in a good way. The trailers showed me that this would be a standard Idol anime similar to Aikatsu. But nope it wasn't and instead it felt like a proper Precure series. The fact they went back to their roots, had villains interact with each other and the fact that HAND TO HAND COMBAT makes it's glorious return. It tells me that this will be a series I won't drop after the first few episodes like I did with Wonderful. The comedy was great to, legit got me chuckling a few times. Okay You & Idol Precure. I'm intrigued, don't mess this up.
Instructions unclear, got forced into idiot industry. My presidential campaign for 2028 is slowly being planned. Jokes aside, we are getting actual villains and glimpse into their personalities and relations in episode one? And the setup while rather standard, feels like a nice refreshment after like 2 years of poor attempts to break the mold by offering nothing in exchange? And everything just looks and sounds and smells like a PreCure? I may be a simple man of simple needs but I'm happy with what I'm seeing.
The monster enjoying the finisher song is enough to make me want to watch this weekly. Idk why but I actually prefer this debut episode compared to Hirogaru. Idk why it's always cringing watching Cure Sky talk. I always love physical fight, Cure Flora is still the standard for first episode.
After what many considered to be a very mediocre season, You and Idol Precure had a strong start. We actually have a main character who can actually sing. (No offense to the girls of Star Twinkle) To show that she sings for a living, Uta Sakura was given very detailed storytelling to show her appreciation and uplifting to people who need it; she was given good, early development just like Nodoka and Sora. The fairy, this time, isn't annoying and is trying its best to find the saviors to defend and save her world. The bits in trying to find who the Precure are were funny as Uta was coming up with an excuse for why fairy friend wouldn't listen to her. The bad guys this time actually looked threatening, HAD personality, and began interacting after two or three seasons prior ( I don't remember). And, THANK YOU! The close quarters combat had returned after we were denied for a whole season. Uta/ Cure Idol maybe a rookie, but I have a feeling she'll get better with experience. For the start of a new season, I have no complaints. I'm actually engaged unlike last season. Let's see where this goes.
You said it best yourself that this season/ep is back to many basics of Precure, and imo... great! WanPre disappointed me bc it tried being unique without comitting fully to those new ideas. Even IF this season is super standard, I'll take smooth sailing over flying too close to the sun. Being specific to this ep, I like how supportive Uta is to those around her, singing because she wants to show others they're appreciated. Her having a little sister is my guess as to why she's a bit more grounded, and why she's so easily swoon by purirun acting like a baby. Her singing is nowhere near as ear-grading as I thought it'd be (or maybe its just I haven't heard it for a year straight yet), and the concert finishers??? Bangers. Ik singing during the transformation might be a missed opportunity, but I like it - if every transformation was a tune we'd get sick of the singing faster. Its spread out enough to be alright. The action was honestly, what I expected with a cure design like that, and the return of actual threats/generals will help break up the pace between our protags. The cures as celebrities could be interesting too... Lastly i want to say it now that I don't mind if this season doesn't critique the idol industry in any big way. I watched the 'debut live' on the precure youtube channel, where the audience was mostly like...5-6 year olds? For a lot of those kids this would be their first exposure to idols. It seems sorta unlikely they'd go into deeper issues if so. Despite that though, even if this season is only here to say "Idols want you to do your best", thats alright. Thats pretty good. Also sorry if this doesnt make sense!!! Its been a tiring day,,
Finally the fighting scenes are back! I just hope this season won't get a bad turn like another not so loved season...but other than that i think its gonna be a great season!
It might be an unpopular opinion, but I'm glad she doesn't sing in her transformation. While it does make sense, I don't believe in Toei to make a transformation song (I said song, not music). Star Twinkle's transformation song was nice but what's with the autotune/robotic effect they had put in the soundtrack?! The only version I liked is the quartet version, which is the only version that doesn't have that weird effect/autotuning.

Yess we are back
Finaly was able to sit down and watch the show and like you said, it was a pretty standard first episode.
I do like that Uta has a little more sensibility as a pink lead as we haven’t really got something like that since I think healing good?
The straight man jokes are pretty funny and when she’s being sincerely cheering others up, you can really feel the difference between her from the start.
Let’s see out it will work out in the next year
When they strapped the monster to the chair I got boueibu s2 war flashbacks 😂
This opening episode surprised me. And I mean that in a good way. The trailers showed me that this would be a standard Idol anime similar to Aikatsu. But nope it wasn't and instead it felt like a proper Precure series. The fact they went back to their roots, had villains interact with each other and the fact that HAND TO HAND COMBAT makes it's glorious return. It tells me that this will be a series I won't drop after the first few episodes like I did with Wonderful. The comedy was great to, legit got me chuckling a few times. Okay You & Idol Precure. I'm intrigued, don't mess this up.
This first villain of the general named Cutty.
So glad we have a Precure that fights.
And the music was nice 🙂
2:11 finally more more the stuff we wanted to see in this franchise
Daaaaaammmmmm Kaiba became DEATH? DESTROYER OF WORLDS?
Instructions unclear, got forced into idiot industry. My presidential campaign for 2028 is slowly being planned.
Jokes aside, we are getting actual villains and glimpse into their personalities and relations in episode one? And the setup while rather standard, feels like a nice refreshment after like 2 years of poor attempts to break the mold by offering nothing in exchange? And everything just looks and sounds and smells like a PreCure? I may be a simple man of simple needs but I'm happy with what I'm seeing.
Happy 5th Anniversary of Healin Good Precure!
She jump high like Cure Flora did.
The concept of light and darkness returns again.
0:40 Kaiba becoming a Precure would be epic
You & Idol MIGHT as well be Donsisters.
If a Sumo is a Precure, I can see a Scott Steiner Stand-In as One of the Villians.
11:21 What the beep? {Explosion!}
We get a nice ending for the first episode!
We have some new villains in You And Idol Precure show!
This is a first review of You And Idol Precure episode review!
Happy 15th Anniversary of Heartcatch Precure!
7:01 if this also surprises you, Uta's va voices Shimakk from show by rock and they got pretty different voices
6:53 So, the villains in this season are a reference to the Evil Trio from Time Bokan franchise.
& Each Trio Represent the 3 B's, The Beauty, The Brain, & The Brawn.
@@conradojavier7547 Dokurobe represents the 4th B? (Boss). I really want to see a reference to Dokurobe in this show!
We still got a same old 40th Anniversary of Transformers Franchise.
Great review. And also my 🎂 was on MLKJR day.
I love this episode. I am hoping that this season will be good. I will just take a solid season at this point.
The 3 Generals are more of a Tribute to the Time Bokan Franchise usually The 3 Bs as Villians, The Beauty, The Brain, & The Brawn
Its been a tiring day,,
Sakura Uta just sing her own song.
Finally the fighting scenes are back!
I just hope this season won't get a bad turn like another not so loved season...but other than that i think its gonna be a great season!
I am glad we are returning to action
Wonderful drove me insane
Please at the very least, don’t be like wonderful, Kimi to Idol
Already having far more faith in this than Wonderful.
We have a debut of Cure Idol.
She transform by using Idol Heart Brooch.
I agree Uta was very real in this episode and cautious. Does this mean we can get weekly precure reviews again 👀?
6:04 Looks more like the face of the Chill guy who lowkey dgaf.
She meet a fairy from KirakiLand named Purirun!
Uta is now my favorite Melloeta😅.
Now the last year review of Wonderful Precure Episode is over!
why did the Subtitles change it to "Please the Crowd"?
Because "fanservice" has a sexual subtext in the western side of anime community and you do not want to use that in a kid's show.
Plus that Subtilte fits the Idol Gimmick better.
@@conradojavier7547 Eh. They translated Fist Touch too literally, it's supposed be a "Fist Bump" which I think it fits better
What CQC?
Close Quarters Combat
1:33 if that was true way didn’t the side M of idolmaster has another season
We can see a new girl named Sakura Uta!
She is the best human character ever!
might not want to use the donchanger anymore, it was not agreeing with your background
2:25 more like they have to make it around they lose the to Pretty Cure
Wait they actually made that in world manga?
Here we go 🤦🏾 another way of using a punching power.....
Huh, a magic idol character named Uta and not a single One Piece reference. Either that is some serious restraint or just a missed opportunity.🤔
Welcome to real life in south korea.
