Hello Broughy. I'm a big fan of what you do on this channel and great work on the Open Wheel testing however I believe there's one aspect that still needs to be tested. Please add as an update to this video a test to see whether or not downforce has any effect on tire wear. It is my belief that higher down forces create more or faster tire wear
@@lanedegener8 No it doesn't. Stop commenting this on other comments as you're misleading people. The footage you see in this video proving that it doesn't work is from PS4. Downforce is a thing, is on multiple cars in the game, and works fine. Changing setups to change the amount of downforce on these cars does not work as soon as you get to a race lobby.
even if softs make very little difference, I'm still going to have to pit stop every other lap because of XxX_IlIIIllII_XxX using my car instead of his brakes to slow down in the corners!
Yeah getting to the first corner in 1st place irl F1 means they're much more likely to win, but in GTA Open Wheel races it means you'll likely be missing your rear spoiler before you exit the corner & the chances of you winning is slim 🤦♂️
Add repair damage costs, problem solved. Everyone will be more careful. They'd just have to put some work into a system that is capable of identifying who is at fault.
It's usually safer to let all the tryhards go in front for the first lap, then just dodge all the wreckage as you breeze back into first place half way through lap 2.
not too sure why you'd expect gta players, one of the most inbred and toxic kiddie communities in gaming, to uphold racing standards that often fail in serious racing games and simulators because even those have inept pricks that can't drive
Rockstar: Makes Arena War races so when you drive the wrong way you cant ram your oponents. Also Rockstar: Adds F1 racing but dont add this feature. LOL
This might be the most complex testing since there are so many variables that can affect the car's performance. Even the smallest change can affect the car significantly. Good stuff tho, very well detailed testing.
I'm both glad and disappointed that setup doesn't affect the cars in races. Glad because you can customise the car however you want and there won't be any detriment. Disappointed because setups would be very interesting for racing. Finding the absolute best setups for certain tracks, best all-rounders, and finding your personal preference.
The tyres also deplete faster when you spin them which can cause issues when you spin out or when people hit you... Making it so you can't make it until the end of the race without hitting the pits. This also means that if your not a perfectly clean racer, your tires won't last as long.
I was fully expecting to finish a race in the tyres I was using but numerous incidents in the race meant they went with half a lap to go so obviously it's not just distance.
Dude, finally someone did a proper test with the F1 Cars, the other youtubers ( most of them are just crap). Well done, you compleatly deserve it and hope you get way more Subscribers! Keep on the awesome work you are the best GTA youtuber according to Race Vids/Facts and Tests.
Hahaha the effort someone's gone to to change all those values per part ... only to have some moron forget to uncheck the "default downforce" box on the only mode you need it. Classic Rockstar. You couldn't write it. Only, by this point, we could.
it sounds stupid at first but if setups work in races we would have to buy multiple F1 with diferent setups for every race. Imagine you have to buy 5 F1 to be competitive in every situation.
@@xJOJOx31 or, now stay with me here. 13:30 I think R*'s intention is vice versa. Downforce will always be default values in free roam. But in races, the downforces will vary by different setups. I think it would be really cool if players can change the front and rear spoilers in open wheel races without spending extra money so that players can keep their favourite customisations in free roam. While choosing the best setups for different situations in open wheel races.
I think you got a bit wrong from that video here it's the other way around the setup worked on freeroam but once you start the open wheel race the downforce will revert back to default one

What I'm hoping for is a new setup screen only for open-wheel racing where you can customize the car directly before the race starts. That would be perfect. Of course, you could only apply parts that you have bought. But it is Rockstar, so whether they'll actually do something like this is a coin toss.
i like that you only need to pit for a few seconds to fix the wings and top the tyres up slightly, if you just need to make the tyres last a few laps more
I heard a lot of these different aspects of the cars through speculation, so it was very nice to have watched the entire video for solid evidence and conclusions! I'm greatly shocked by how the custom wings don't affect the cars in the races. I almost think I got the 'placebo effect' by that, because I pretty much assumed that I would do way better in races because I had a certain front/rear wing combo that was making me super good at the open wheel races. Now I kinda feel dumb thinking that...but either way, I hope this videos gets shared a lot and is made aware to majority of the community!
Good god, that must have taken hours to get all the information and make all the different tests. Thank you so much for all the effort you put into your videos.
Thank you so much broughy, I'm 50 in the world on some tracks and I got in my head about different spoilers and front wings. Stressing, that made me slower. Now I can just get gud. Thanks mate and I'll see ya next time!
Those 18 “dislikes” I see here (so far) , I wonder what issues they would have with this very professional style, easy to understand, very detailed video. Any true racer on GTA would fully appreciate this tutorial, especially knowing, that how much time it must have gone into it.I guess some people are just never happy. This video was simply amazing Broughy 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
He did 1 small error by saying that 121mph is the fastest top speed but forgot about R88 having option which removes the front wing so it's little bit faster but I liked the video anyway.
Amazing testing, so many variables! I bet Brough enjoyed understanding the complexity of F1 cars put into GTA of all games after all this time. This vid deserves views, likes, and the channel deserves many more subscribers! Great work Broughy, as always!
The problem with allowing custom downforce setups in a race lobby, is that R* has not yet given us the ability to change the setup pre-race for each track. Currently you would have to quit back out to free-roam after each race just to update your setup before starting another circuit with different demands.
Okay so question. So the R88 has that option for "No Wing" as the front wing and the races default you back to stock settings right? So like how would the damage on that work since you can't lose a front wing if you don't have one? Or would it default the back wing to stock however you keep no downforce on the front? Or have I missed something here?
This is a little old and I can test it next time I race but I'm fairly sure if you lose your "front bumper", "nose" whatever, or the piece that connects all the other wings to the car, that would determine if you lose the downforce effect. I'll test and recomment though.
The problem with having downforce carry over to a race is that rockstar can never win everybody over. If individual setups carry over, the hardcore racers will wet themselves once they can build custom tracks. Vettel fans can build a car he wont spin in, and people will most certainly have multiple cars with differing setups. On the other side of the coin, that makes the entry barrier to F1-style racing even higher than normal (ironically reflecting the situation with actual F1). On top of refining driver skill, you gotta be a good constructor as well, AND have the $$$ to afford it all, lest you end up like Russel and Williams. Will see what Rockstar's final decision is here. In the meantime thanks to you and Gaffa for providing actual number values for the different wing parts for us car nerds to play with.
I think this is one of the best videos you’ve made. Slick, Professional and very detailed. We know how much work went it as we seen on twitch was surprised though they were not quicker round the test track but I suppose it could be different when you actually can get a proper lap time. Also GG for giving credit to other for their research to
This video is a work of art. Wow. Great work, man fingers crossed it's a bug and they fix it so that wings actually matter in races. That would make for such interesting races
Great video, thanks for the mentions. Some slight other testing I did had the results of hard tyres having a slightly higher top speed than soft tyres - when tyre wear was controlled and couldn't wear further so the tests were like-for-like. It's pretty weird, but I guess Rockstar will iron some things out as they go along.
...And to find out how fast it is, we handed it over to our tame racing driver. Some say, his testes have a small gravitational field, and that he can catch fish with his tongue. All we know is, he's called The Stig!!
My hypothesis is that these cars will have the exact same lap times if they both have the same downforce values so when you do your offical testing, please inlcude the setup you are using. And it would be nice if you include the lap times for both cars with the stock setups, the lowest downforce setups, the highest downforce setups, and whatever setup you found was able to get you quickest around the track. I know that is a lot of testing to do but it would give us a good conclusion on how these cars fair against eachother.
That's some pretty extensive preliminary testing, Mr Broughy. Thank you! And to Mr Rockstar: please remember to fix your game in addition to pandering to your TakeTwo overlords.
The real question is whether or not certain wings are less likely to come off, because honestly, that's all that matters if you're gonna be racing in public lobbies.
Some very in-depth F1 testing there indeed, with a lot of useful information provided overall 👍👏 Will look forward to seeing more in future when Rockstar adds the Open Wheel to the Creator and effectively 'unlocks' it for some even more beneficial testing, though here's to hoping they fix/correct that issue with the front/rear downforce actually making a difference in the actual Open Wheel Races, given that surely must've been a mere oversight and not intentional D:
Another super job my man! That's why I tune in to watch all of your videos! I hope that u didn't mind me replying to someone about the down force. Told him that I have only tested in free mode, so take what I said with a pinch of salt and a grain of sand. And that my driving skills are nowhere near the level of yours. Keep up the great work! :-)
Great testing as always! So in depth! 😀👍 Only thing I'd like to mention is that when you lose your floor, you also lose downforce from that. Don't know for the main shell or smaller nose piece. These cars have so much downforce you can actually drive them upside down in the Braddock Pass tunnel if you get it right! 😄
Brilliant video with great info. I was surprised you didn't pick a new track and do some comparison testing, until it was revealed that aero setup makes no difference in a race... Wtf.
thank you for confirming my theory on the wings. i kinda figures that this attributed to mass having a significant effect with other cars but this video confirmed it
This is way more detail than I ever expected r* to put in gta online, but sad that the rally update couldn't get anything near this. :/ Instead we got some pretty good looking rally car lookalikes but they grip dirt like its asphalt and cant accelerate during slides which is like the whole point of awd rally.
Very useful information; one doubt that i've since i'd seen you racing with both for 1st time is... do bumps increase the tyre wear?, the amount of pianos that you step in and out... sidewalk edges and that kind of things.
Damaging the car also effects tire wear. I was doing a race with randoms (worst experience of my life ngl) to check out what the open wheel series was like, and my tires were gone in a 6 minute race, presumably because everyone was just driving into eachother. I suspect the tires wear more quickly when driving without a wing?
I'll still be driving the Kreiger freemode. Racing mechanics will never be perfect in this game but that's not why I have over a year in game. This is GTA.
I like your stuff and enjoy the interesting GTA5 Fact-Finding. But what about the damage to the hood or any car covers and bodyworks? Does bodywork change the performance/downforce?
Does the same thing apply with spoilers when you add them to cars regarding down force, making the car quicker etc or does this only apply to open wheel cars?
I am pretty sure that using KERS right out of a corner also has an effect on the tyre wear. With the races that I have done so far hard usually can't carry me through a ten laps and those laps are more often than not around or below the one minute mark. The testing method around 12:30 seems a bit iffy to me. At the start of the clips the low downforce car is further behind and catches up to the other one right at the turn in point. At that point both cars have presumably reached their top speed with around 8 mph difference to each other. So the low df car takes a wider line partially due to its higher speed. Also the line you take as target favours a tighter turning radius because it doesn't go through the centre point of turns the cars are doing. You see the first car hitting the line at an angle of maybe 30° where the second one hits at almost 90°, meaning it turned way further. Actually when the high df car hits the line the low df car was just about done doing a 180° turn. One issue I have with the downforce setups though is that the game doesn't tell you that this is a thing. If I didn't know I'd likely set up my car to look nice and that'd be it. Still, I appreciate the effort, there is a lot of good information in this video. It obviously isn't easy to come up with new testing methods, especially when you can't use the creator to help with it.
Since finally buying an R88 I notice a much bigger improvement in speed and cornering compared to stock open wheel races. Is that just the placebo effect or did Rockstar actually fix the bug since this video was published so that customized wings and front bumpers' performance gains are working in open wheel races? I went from winning 1 of 4 or 5 races to winning at least half. And that happened instantly after getting my own F1 car and customizing it. I also notice that now at Race Start, I jump out muchhhh quicker than almost everyone else in every race, except for the other people who clearly have custom cars.
Wow talk about placebo effect for me! I could swear my grip was depleting as it got closer to the red. What actually happened was that I was losing faith in the grip and slowing down more than I needed to have. Thanks!
Thankyou for the comparison, It’s nice that you can choose what type of downforce you want, Btw Could you also test if it’s easier to drive upside down if you have higher downforce? It would be cool to see a comparison on that one too 😉👍
I can't believe they intended it. The money making possibilities of people needing several identical Open-wheelers with different setups for different racetracks is just too obvious.
so did they change the tire grip thing when they changed the HUD as well?? because i know with 100% certainty beyond the shadow of a doubt that grip decreases gradually and not just at the very end

I think this is one of the best videos you’ve made. Slick, Professional and very detailed. We know how much work went it as we seen on twitch was surprised though they were not quicker round the test track but I suppose it could be different when you actually can get a proper lap time. Also GG for giving credit to other for their research to
You REALLY deserve more recognition! This is way more than thorough!
Vintage Broughy, truly. This is the investigative communicative genius I subscribed to.
This video is a work of art. Wow.
Great work, man
fingers crossed it's a bug and they fix it so that wings actually matter in races. That would make for such interesting races
Can we all just appreciate the amount of time this man took to test these vehicles to get results to show us viewers in a 17 minute video.
Amazing work man, this is why I come exclusively to you for info on cars in GTA
Broughy1322
, the benchmark of GTA cars never fails. Well done!
Now I want to see you race these cars!
This shows how acceleration based your track is. I feel like itd be many seconds faster than supers on a true grip track
Thank you for the help man, i appreciate the time you spent doing these tests👍
One of your best fact finding vids to date. Amazing as always broughy
...And to find out how fast it is, we handed it over to our tame racing driver.
Thank you Broughy! You're the best for sharing all your work! I appreciate your page.
That's some pretty extensive preliminary testing, Mr Broughy. Thank you!
And to Mr Rockstar: please remember to fix your game in addition to pandering to your TakeTwo overlords.
Watching the solid white line in the tire wear testing was almost therapeutic 😂
The real question is whether or not certain wings are less likely to come off, because honestly, that's all that matters if you're gonna be racing in public lobbies.
You can tell how much you've enjoyed this. I think the video proves it. It's a great video.
Thank you appreciate all the hard work and research for my free benefit. It doesn’t go unnoticed. Love and respect.
Valid information, clear comparisons and covering all aspects once again a great video!
Once again another fully comprehensive masterpiece 😁 that's why I only come here for gta car info keep up the great work Broughy
Holy shit broughy, thanks for the testing. Not only did you have to test it you drove it from another part of the map just to use ur testing layout
Some very in-depth F1 testing there indeed, with a lot of useful information provided overall 👍👏
Will look forward to seeing more in future when Rockstar adds the Open Wheel to the Creator and effectively 'unlocks' it for some even more beneficial testing, though here's to hoping they fix/correct that issue with the front/rear downforce actually making a difference in the actual Open Wheel Races, given that surely must've been a mere oversight and not intentional D:
Broughy you r a blessing für the racers. No bullshit, just straight up facts. Thx
oh boy time to revisit this! does look like we're getting open wheel track editor and two new open wheel cars.
yep he's already planning to update his testing and do it properly
Another super job my man! That's why I tune in to watch all of your videos! I hope that u didn't mind me replying to someone about the down force. Told him that I have only tested in free mode, so take what I said with a pinch of salt and a grain of sand. And that my driving skills are nowhere near the level of yours. Keep up the great work! :-)
Thanks for the video. The waiting was worth it. Great job Broughy, as always! See you on the tracks..
Thanks for this bro... I wish I would've known this earlier this week... I spent so much money on different wing set-up for the races lol
Great testing as always! So in depth! 😀👍
Only thing I'd like to mention is that when you lose your floor, you also lose downforce from that. Don't know for the main shell or smaller nose piece.
These cars have so much downforce you can actually drive them upside down in the Braddock Pass tunnel if you get it right! 😄
That overtake at the end!
Brilliant video with great info. I was surprised you didn't pick a new track and do some comparison testing, until it was revealed that aero setup makes no difference in a race... Wtf.
Incredible work, Brough.
You're an amazing person ;) The only person anyone would ever need for anything GTA Online racing!
A great review on the Formula cars. Learn'd alot, thanks Broughy!
That Benetton-like livery on the pr4 looks excellent
Thank you :D
you can do both Senna's Lotus paints, the JPS black, and Camel orange and blue, and obviously the Marlboro McLaren, as well as an almost Williams
Excellent Work as always
Fantastic and Thorough Testing as usual!
Thanks for this, you do such great work that helps a lot of people
Great informative video! But what about armor? Does it make the car more resistent against hits in races?!?!
Been waiting for this. Thanks brough
thank you for confirming my theory on the wings. i kinda figures that this attributed to mass having a significant effect with other cars but this video confirmed it
Nice one Broughy. Thanks for putting the work in to test these. Useful info.
This is way more detail than I ever expected r* to put in gta online, but sad that the rally update couldn't get anything near this. :/ Instead we got some pretty good looking rally car lookalikes but they grip dirt like its asphalt and cant accelerate during slides which is like the whole point of awd rally.
Now we just need this kind of video for the new open wheel cars
ua-cam.com/users/postUgwsqq7ar4fiWhp4j8t4AaABCQ
DiNmiTe i seen that
Very useful information; one doubt that i've since i'd seen you racing with both for 1st time is... do bumps increase the tyre wear?, the amount of pianos that you step in and out... sidewalk edges and that kind of things.
Great job, Broughy, keep it up
Damaging the car also effects tire wear. I was doing a race with randoms (worst experience of my life ngl) to check out what the open wheel series was like, and my tires were gone in a 6 minute race, presumably because everyone was just driving into eachother. I suspect the tires wear more quickly when driving without a wing?
This is awesome info! I just wish I had known about all of it while F1 races were still double money 😣
I was waiting for this video for so long! thankyou Broughy!!
XD i wanna find the rankle that said the kreiger can beat these things around the track he owes me 50$
I remember you and that dude, actually. I remember specifically telling him he had no idea what he was talking about.
@@DarkVoxis i want my money from em >:)
Go back to that vid and heckle him ;)
@@acethehuskyhusky2758 " fuck him, fuck you, I want my money Jimmy! "
Be careful what you demand....
Thank you Brough, great work as always!
Does the same thing apply with spoilers when you add them to cars regarding down force, making the car quicker etc or does this only apply to open wheel cars?
Cheers as always Broughy for the imformation. :)
It obviously isn't easy to come up with new testing methods, especially when you can't use the creator to help with it.
thank you for this very in-depth testing!
Not even playing the game any more, stil watching your videos tho to keep up, for if I ever return
Wow talk about placebo effect for me! I could swear my grip was depleting as it got closer to the red. What actually happened was that I was losing faith in the grip and slowing down more than I needed to have. Thanks!
Thorough and well done as always.👍👏👏👏
Great work on testing as always
Thankyou for the comparison, It’s nice that you can choose what type of downforce you want, Btw Could you also test if it’s easier to drive upside down if you have higher downforce? It would be cool to see a comparison on that one too 😉👍
I can't believe they intended it.
The money making possibilities of people needing several identical Open-wheelers with different setups for different racetracks is just too obvious.
Of course not, you know that R* always screws stuff up and doesn't know how to fix it or even care to fix it! :-)
so did they change the tire grip thing when they changed the HUD as well?? because i know with 100% certainty beyond the shadow of a doubt that grip decreases gradually and not just at the very end
Splendid job there brotendo, have some ranch!
