while I appreciate a nuanced car system, I can't help but to feel it's silly we don't get this kind of information from the game itself, I mean, at least the bars should've worked, instead, people have to go through the game files and do extensive testing to get results. like, srsly? the NEON BARS affect performance? why isn't there a little marker in the LS Customs menu signaling it? what's next, do carbon pieces also make a difference since they're theoretically lighter? what if we didn't have dedicated people like Broughy to test this stuff out?

I would argue both ways frankly. Either way, it’s good to have this info. Would certainly argue for broken when it comes to the neons though like... wtf even lol
I'd say nuanced if the info was available in the game or it was talked about at some point, but I'd consider it broken since it's all wildly unknown, and that a lot of cars only have front bumper mods, or only giant wings, etc.
I wouldn't say broken. Most of the effects have a logical basis in how the physics engine works. What I would say it is bizarre. Why Rockstar went to the effort they did for some things (like the different handling properties of different wheel categories and suspension) when not only is it not referenced in-game at all, but it is also so subtle only top tier drivers will really notice is just baffling
@@Johnny362000 I've absolutely noticed some suspension differences in certain cars that made a big difference, at least to me. I've been watching your videos for a while now, an for some reason I now really like gfred. I've downloaded it yesterday, an I've started to run it a few times. I would love to do a gfred with its creator some day. (Not yet though, I'm still practicing an seeing if the routs used are indeed the best routes to take) but hopefully one day I'll get to do a race with you an your crew. Your attitude towards the game are very similar to my own. Nice video here also, a lot was learned today. Now to test out some your advice, especially the neons adding wait to affect handling, just wow, if this is so.
Well they say you learn something new every day . I had no idea that types of spoiler , front ( and I’m assuming rear bumpers ) plus neon headlights and neon layout made a difference to the centre of mass .. not to mention the use of off road wheels / tyres . Given the level of detail placed into this game , it still defies logic how the performance of some of the more expensive vehicles seems rather disappointing. There again , I’d imagine that the game is still more about the aesthetics than anything else . Been watching a lot of your videos in Lockdown, and must say they are very very impressive . Great content , it sort of blows away a lot of the other videos out there . 👍
Suspensions upgradeds affect handling, the lower the car the more understeer it will have and its more likely to spin out if you oversteer. So for drifts cars its bettter to keep it stock or barely lowered since you get so much more control over the car. Im suprised that almost no one noticed this when the first thing we do out of ls custom is a donuts 😂
very interesting video , but i think you got understeer and oversteer reversed . The weight distribution of a vehicle at standstill will affect handling. If the center of gravity is moved closer to the front axle, the vehicle tends to understeer due to tire load sensitivity. When the center of gravity is toward the back of the vehicle, the rear axle tends to swing out, which is oversteer
nah, it depends on the context, it's important not to mix things up. imagine you have a car and a really fat man sits on the rear. he will push the rear tires into the ground with his weight and your rear will have more traction. That is until you lose grip at the back because you push too hard, then he acts a bit like the weight on a pendulum and makes the car swing out more than it would without him
Mittaman isn't wrong. Assuming a car without suspension and the same size/type of tire all around, a vehicle would have less lateral grip on the end that has more mass. A couple of the reasons being that the end with more mass has more momentum and the tires experience greater slip angles. EDIT (More info): Even though the rear heavy car would understeer in a steady-state cornering situation, it would be better than the front heavy vehicle in getting out of corners since that mostly depends on rear grip.
Wow I put white neons on some of my cars because I was sick of the headlights getting smashed and it gave me the illusion of more visibility, I had no idea I was doing anything to the centre of mass
HOLY SHIT THIS WORKS AT A GREATER SCALE THAN I THOUGHT my emerus has always been with absolutely no body mods besides the spoiler Always hated the oversteer Then I added the biggest "grill" mod and all of a sudden its SUPER controllable IM JUST AMAZED
One thing you didn't mention, side skirts are usually detrimental on off road surfaces, they'll get caught in bushes and affect the steering etc. and even drag on the ground and slow you down in some cases
Broughy I have a question, since you like vehicles do you know about them irl or do you modify your own vehicle ? (In simple way), are you a car guy irl
Nice, one thing that i've notied it's that with the new wheels (the thicker ones) i've a performance close to the one i'll get with tunner wheels on dry conditions, if it's raining... the cars are a soap pill; and with very happy rear end cars like the Vette Mk1, they've much less grip than with muscle car wheels. For GTA racing facts i come here.
i'vr allways thought the feltzer with that stupid wing on looked a bit od when driving, who know it was because of the center of mass rockstar keeps surprising me, oh and all of the other things about setup, really had no idea that was a thing
Really well done video Brough. My only questions are, do different wheels have a different effect on how much Kerb boost you will receive? And do bumpers that are low to the ground and or long that sometimes clip into the ground have an effect on kerb boosting?
> do different wheels have a different effect on how much Kerb boost you will receive on cars that have their bump absorption affected by tyre sidewall, there is an imperceptible difference >do bumpers that are low to the ground and or long that sometimes clip into the ground have an effect on kerb boosting? no
@@jackarmstrong7285 as the others said, yes you get slightly bigger kerbboosts with Highend/SUV wheels than with offroads on the cars that have the "offroads" marker in the spreadsheet. But on almost all racetracks the negatives will outweight the positives by a lot. you might gain 0.2 seconds from better boosts, but you will lose 2 seconds everywhere else just to give arbitrary numbers. The only 2 scenarios where Sports/SUV wheels are better on these cars than offroads are: - Oval tracks where the banked corners aren't perfectly smooth - Some (rockstar) stuntraces where the whole track is flat but there are the red and white rumblestrips to kerbboost on everywhere
Do the centers of mass go UP or d o w n by the height of a mod? Like a painted stock wing, vs a super high time attack style wing? or rally lights on a bumper vs a low splitter?
The COM moves based on where the item is located. So a massive spoiler will move the COM further up and further back and a small spoiler would. A low splitter will move the COM further down than rally lights would.
I wish I didn't care so much about the cosmetics of my cars... I hate the look of under glow and offroad wheels. Also, I never thought about having less brake power. Might have to try that with my Yosemite.
You don't have to sacrifice the looks for performance if you don't want to. I don't really care about anything other than looks on my cars and in the Gauntlet Hellfire race Brough shows as b-roll in this vid I came second (after accidentally taking someone out on the first corner lol)
Its weird you mentioned the armor upgrade has no effect while on some cars I definitely feel the difference between full armor and no armor. Last time it was my S80RR which I sold than won as a podium vehicle and couldn't understand why im sliding so much. It wasn't like that before than I removed the armor and sticks like glue again. Had to add. Some cars even benefit from a little extra weight making it more stable.
That's entirely placebo. Not only does armour has no performance effect, mass in GTA has no effect on performance, so even if armour DID add mass it'd make no difference
this is the kind of shit gta should really go into. if underglow messes with the center mass (who even knew that was an actual thing in this game) they really should tell you in some way. like even a center mass slider would make a difference
Brilliant video. If I am street racing (new tuner dlc) are the new tuner/street wheels better than offroad? And do I need to change the transmission and suspension to Street?
This video explains what you need to do with transmission, and how to find out whether off-roads are helpful or not (for the new tuners they aren't). And as I explained in the lap time video for the tuners DLC cars, max suspension is best for them only.
Would you recommend using suspension upgrades on cars that don't have any performance improvement? I feel like some cars just don't handle bumps and kerbs too well if they're too low
in those cases, its purely preference, Brough often uses Sport suspension on cars that dont benefit from lowest suspension but thats purely cuz he wants to, use whatever suspension you like!

i dont even play gta i just enjoy watching your videos
I've never knew about the neon thing ... sounds crazy!
Wow so much work and love in your vids.
You're welcome, thanks for the kind words!
These are the videos that brought me to this channel!
.... I... I want a RON shirt too.
Excellent community resource, Broughy. The enormous time and effort you put into all of this does not go unnoticed!
Thanks! And if you want your own RON shirt it’s right here broughy.com/merch 😊
Suspensions upgradeds affect handling, the lower the car the more understeer it will have and its more likely to spin out if you oversteer. So for drifts cars its bettter to keep it stock or barely lowered since you get so much more control over the car. Im suprised that almost no one noticed this when the first thing we do out of ls custom is a donuts 😂
it only improves handling for cars with the "reduce_body_roll_with_suspension_mods advanced" flag, otherwise its purely placebo or makes it worse
very interesting video , but i think you got understeer and oversteer reversed .
It all depends on whether you’re talking about being within traction limits or not. I go into it in more detail on the page.
This game is so detailed than i thought
Wow I put white neons on some of my cars because I was sick of the headlights getting smashed and it gave me the illusion of more visibility, I had no idea I was doing anything to the centre of mass
Very informational and professional. Thank you.
Bro this is amazing helped me so much!
HOLY SHIT THIS WORKS AT A GREATER SCALE THAN I THOUGHT
my emerus has always been with absolutely no body mods besides the spoiler
Always hated the oversteer
Then I added the biggest "grill" mod and all of a sudden its SUPER controllable
IM JUST AMAZED
Looks like I'll have to tune my Xa-21. Love that car
I don't even play GTA anymore, and yet here I am watching this lol
One thing you didn't mention, side skirts are usually detrimental on off road surfaces, they'll get caught in bushes and affect the steering etc. and even drag on the ground and slow you down in some cases
Broughy I have a question, since you like vehicles do you know about them irl or do you modify your own vehicle ? (In simple way), are you a car guy irl
WOW GREAT CONTENT !!!!!!!!!!! KEEP IT UP MAN WE NEED MORE OF THIS RIGHT HERE!!!
The last question I have is do f1 tiers that u can glitch on to normal cars make any difference or are they any better than off-road tiers
No, they’re actually worse in a lot of situations
@@broughy1322 thx for the answer
i'vr allways thought the feltzer with that stupid wing on looked a bit od when driving, who know it was because of the center of mass rockstar keeps surprising me, oh and all of the other things about setup, really had no idea that was a thing
Really well done video Brough. My only questions are, do different wheels have a different effect on how much Kerb boost you will receive? And do bumpers that are low to the ground and or long that sometimes clip into the ground have an effect on kerb boosting?
> do different wheels have a different effect on how much Kerb boost you will receive
on cars that have their bump absorption affected by tyre sidewall, there is an imperceptible difference
>do bumpers that are low to the ground and or long that sometimes clip into the ground have an effect on kerb boosting?
no
First question answered on the mentioned page with more details. Second question: no.
@@broughy1322 Thanks! I just read the page and it’s super detailed! Well done mate
The only 2 scenarios where Sports/SUV wheels are better on these cars than offroads are:
- Oval tracks where the banked corners aren't perfectly smooth
- Some (rockstar) stuntraces where the whole track is flat but there are the red and white rumblestrips to kerbboost on everywhere
A low splitter will move the COM further down than rally lights would.
thanks chili
I wish I didn't care so much about the cosmetics of my cars... I hate the look of under glow and offroad wheels. Also, I never thought about having less brake power. Might have to try that with my Yosemite.
The old offroad wheels looked wonky as hell but the new ones go well with virtually any car now
You don't have to sacrifice the looks for performance if you don't want to. I don't really care about anything other than looks on my cars and in the Gauntlet Hellfire race Brough shows as b-roll in this vid I came second (after accidentally taking someone out on the first corner lol)
join a crew with black crew color and use crew colored neons
@@mr_obst3077 yep, that's the way. Black makes the neons appear to be "off" which is great when you want the benefit without sacrificing the look.
amazing!
Great information, i actually didn't know some of this stuff!
Do you cover the tires more in any of your videos? Specifically on what about the two types you mentioned in this video make them the best?
this is the most up to date coverage
Thank you Broughy1322 for this link!! To my questions for max upgrade recap for me plus the additional tips
Can't wait for this year's update for this.
No more upgrade benefits per car on spreadsheet?
yes there is, in "Performance Upgrades" under the "Key Vehicle Info" sheet
gtacars.net also has this information
Does this apply in story mode?
yes its the same game
@@DiNmiTeYeah indeed lol
I prefer making the car look how I like it and just getting used to it. Interesting video nonetheless.
Does having a roof box affect top speed or handling?
this is the kind of shit gta should really go into. if underglow messes with the center mass (who even knew that was an actual thing in this game) they really should tell you in some way. like even a center mass slider would make a difference
It would be cool to choose one set of wheels for the front and one for the back
Brilliant video.
Awesome video. Thanks mate
@@DiNmiTe Thanks :)
